Bargaining agents based system for automatic classification of potential allergens in recipes

    Get PDF
The automatic recipe recommendation which take into account the dietary restrictions of users (such as allergies or intolerances) is a complex and open problem. Some of the limitations of the problem is the lack of food databases correctly labeled with its potential allergens and non-unification of this information by companies in the food sector. In the absence of an appropriate solution, people affected by food restrictions cannot use recommender systems, because this recommend them inappropriate recipes. In order to resolve this situation, in this article we propose a solution based on a collaborative multi-agent system, using negotiation and machine learning techniques, is able to detect and label potential allergens in recipes. The proposed system is being employed in receteame.com, a recipe recommendation system which includes persuasive technologies, which are interactive technologies aimed at changing users’ attitudes or behaviors through persuasion and social influence, and social information to improve the recommendations

Robotic Pick-and-Place Time Optimization: Application to Footwear Production

    Get PDF
This article considers the problem of optimizing the task sequences carried out by a dual-arm manipulator robot in a footwear production setting. The robot has to identify the pieces of a shoe put in a tray and pick-and-place them in a shoe mould for further processing. The shoe pieces arrive on a tray in random positions (patterns) and can be picked up in different order. In such a setting, a decision tree model is developed to recognize the pattern and predict the optimal sequence for picking the pieces up, thus, the picking and decision-making time is minimized. Two shoe models are considered for training and validating the solution proposed and the developed algorithm is applied in the real setting. There are not many studies which use the decision trees in sequencing and scheduling problems in robotics. The ndings of this article show that the decision tree method has advantages in task planning in a complex environment consisting of multiple trajectories and possible collisions between robot arms

Drivers and Impact of ICT adoptation in the European Transport and Logistic Services

The availability of high quality transport and logistics services (TLS) is of paramount importance for growth and competitiveness of the European economy. The objective of this paper is to describe, from the continuous innovation perspective, how companies in this industry use ICT for conducting business and to assess the impact of this development for firms and for the industry as a whole. Using the SCP model and the bi-directional relationships of its elements the paper identifies the links between ICT adoption and innovation dynamics. Moreover, the analysis allows identifying the driving forces of ICT and its impact on selected business dimensions. On the driver’s side, there are three points that are worth mentioning: increasing market competition, the relationships of firms interacting with each other and the availability and quality of complementary assets such as employee skills and IT know-how. On the impacts’ side, firms advanced in terms of ICT usage are more likely to have outsourced business activities. Finally, a set of recommendations on how to further improve the continuous innovation factors in the TLS industry is presented

PERA: Ad-hoc routing protocol for mobile robots

    Get PDF
Mobile robots need to be able to communicate among them, and with other hosts participating in a given task. Traditional wired networks are obviously not suitable for mobile robots. Current wireless networks are usually based on a fixed network infrastructure (base stations) to route packets. The best alternative for mobile robots are Ad-Hoc networks, which are wireless networks that do not need a fixed infrastructure. This paper describes PERA, an adaptation of an adhoc routing protocol that runs on Eyebot mobile robots. By using PERA, a robot can send messages to other robots or hosts that are not directly reachable through its radio antenna, by routing messages through intermediate mobile robots. The design, implementation and lessons learned in the initial tests of PERA are presented in this pape

Influencia de la accesibilidad a los servicios sanitarios básicos en la despoblación rural aragonesa

    Get PDF

Screening based on risk factors for abdominal aortic aneurysm in the cardiology clinic

    Get PDF
Background: The risk factors for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) are present in many of the patients that attend our cardiology service. The aim of this study was the evaluation of the prospects of examining the abdominal aorta during our consultations and the relationship of AAA with risk factors and ischemic cardiopathy. Methods: A descriptive transversal observational study was designed including 274 male patients aged ≥60 years, attended consecutively in the cardiology service, in which we studied the abdominal aorta and adjusted a logistic regression model to determine the risk factors associated with AAA. Results: We were able to visualize and measure the abdominal aorta in 95.4% of cases in a fast and reliable way. The prevalence of AAA was 8.76%. 75% of patients with AAA presented ischemic heart disease. Patients with AAA were characterized by the presence of ischemic cardiopathy (Odds Ratio (OR): 4.27, 95% Confidence Interval (CI): 1.37–13.31, p = 0.012), dyslipidemia (OR: 4.99, 95% CI: 1, 07–23.31; p = 0.041), arterial hypertension (OR: 4.14, 95% CI: 1.07–15.98, p = 0.039), and a longer history of smoking (OR: 1.03; 95% CI: 1002–1.054; p = 0.037). Conclusions: The evaluation of the abdominal aorta during cardiology consultations is feasible with the standard resources. Patients treated in the cardiology service present a high prevalence of AAA. We have adjusted and validated a clinical prediction model based on risk factors that allows the identification, in the cardiology consult, of patients with the highest risk of suffering from AAA

Characterization and prediction of gambling behavior in adolescents using the COM-B model

    Get PDF
Gambling is an international phenomenon, posing a serious threat to adolescents who begin gambling at a young age. This study aims, to explore gambling behavior in adolescents and interpret its risk factors. We conducted a three-waves cohort longitudinal study assessing gambling and associated risk factors in south-eastern Spain. Data were analyzed using the Capabilities, Opportunities, Motivations, Behavior (COM-B) model and the partial least squares path modelling (PLS-PM) technique. Gambling was measured by frequency and money spent; associated factors were knowledge about gambling, parental attitude towards gambling, risk perception, normative perception, and intention to gamble. These items were assigned as indicators of each construct of the COM-B model—capability, opportunity, motivation, and behavior—using the theoretical domains framework. Once the behavior was performed, feedback on future capability, opportunity, and motivation was observed. Results show that capability, determined by past experience, and opportunity, determined by parental attitudes, motivates adolescents to seek gambling experiences in the future. Identifying such factors that affect gambling behavior in adolescents and establishing relationships between them through a robust theoretical model is essential for designing effective interventions

Generation of intra- and interspecific Saccharomyces hybrids with improved oenological and aromatic properties

Non-wine yeasts could enhance the aroma and organoleptic profile of wines. However, compared to wine strains, they have specific intolerances to winemaking conditions. To solve this problem, we generated intra- and interspecific hybrids using a non-GMO technique (rare-mating) in which non-wine strains of S. uvarum, S. kudriavzevii and S. cerevisiae species were crossed with a wine S. cerevisiae yeast. The hybrid that inherited the wine yeast mitochondrial showed better fermentation capacities, whereas hybrids carrying the non-wine strain mitotype reduced ethanol levels and increased glycerol, 2,3-butanediol and organic acid production. Moreover, all the hybrids produced several fruity and floral aromas compared to the wine yeast: β-phenylethyl acetate, isobutyl acetate, γ-octalactone, ethyl cinnamate in both varietal wines. Sc × Sk crosses produced three- to sixfold higher polyfunctional mercaptans, 4-mercapto-4-methylpentan-2-one (4MMP) and 3-mercaptohexanol (3MH). We proposed that the exceptional 3MH release observed in an S. cerevisiae × S. kudriavzevii hybrid was due to the cleavage of the non-volatile glutathione precursor (Glt-3MH) to detoxify the cell from the presence of methylglyoxal, a compound related to the high glycerol yield reached by this hybrid. In conclusion, hybrid generation allows us to obtain aromatically improved yeasts concerning their wine parent. In addition, they reduced ethanol and increased organic acids yields, which counteracts climate change effect on grapes.EEA MendozaFil: Perez, Maria Dolores.
