Reusable Knowledge-based Components for Building Software Applications: A Knowledge Modelling Approach
In computer science, different types of reusable components for building software applications were proposed as a direct consequence of the emergence of new software programming paradigms. The success of these components for building applications depends on factors such as the flexibility in their combination or the facility for their selection in centralised or distributed environments such as internet. In this article, we propose a general type of reusable component, called primitive of representation, inspired by a knowledge-based approach that can promote reusability. The proposal can be understood as a generalisation of existing partial solutions that is applicable to both software and knowledge engineering for the development of hybrid applications that integrate conventional and knowledge based techniques. The article presents the structure and use of the component and describes our recent experience in the development of real-world applications based on this approach
Given the growing number of inmigrant children who enter our schools and the practically non-existence of empirical studies which approach this new situation, certain preconcieved beliefs and ideas tend to be predominant among teachers. These condition the educational answers in the process of teaching the language or languages of the welcoming society to these students. From the evaluation of the linguistic knowledge in Spanish of a group of students in their first year of Secondary School our research analyses some of the factors that determine their levels of linguistic competence. Besides contrasting some beliefs about the learning of the language by these migrant students, this research has allowed us to formulate some indications or suggestions for how to approach the issue
Geoda: Unitary Cell Distribution, Composition and Working Properties
Nowadays, satellite communications are basic for the human lifestyle. In this way, a smart, conformal and multiarray antenna (GEODA) is being developed in order to receive signals from several satellites simultaneously in the 1.7 GHz working band. An adaptive [3] beam system is able to follow the signals from the satellite constellation. The complex structure of the antenna is based in similar arrays of triangular shape. These arrays are divided in sub-arrays of three elements called Cells composing the single control element for the array’s main beam direction management. In this paper, the working properties and the design of one cell will be shown and discussed

A Language to Formalize and to Operationalize Problem-solving Strategies of Structured Knowledge Models
This paper describes a proposal of a language called Link which has been designed to formalize and operationalize problem solving strategies. This language is used within a software environment called KSM (Knowledge Structure Manager) which helps developers in formulating and operationalizing structured knowledge models. The paper presents both its syntax and dynamics, and gives examples of well-known problem-solving strategies of reasoning formulated using this language
