Modeling Sampling in Tensor Products of Unitary Invariant Subspaces

The use of unitary invariant subspaces of a Hilbert space H is nowadays a recognized fact in the treatment of sampling problems. Indeed, shift-invariant subspaces of L-2( R) and also periodic extensions of finite signals are remarkable examples where this occurs. As a consequence, the availability of an abstract unitary sampling theory becomes a useful tool to handle these problems. In this paper we derive a sampling theory for tensor products of unitary invariant subspaces. This allows merging the cases of finitely/infinitely generated unitary invariant subspaces formerly studied in the mathematical literature; it also allows introducing the several variables case. As the involved samples are identified as frame coefficients in suitable tensor product spaces, the relevant mathematical technique is that of frame theory, involving both finite/infinite dimensional cases.This work has been supported by the Grant MTM2014-54692-P from the Spanish Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (MINECO)

El temblor de 1680, entre tradición retórica y pedagogía moderna

El terremoto de 9 de octubre de 1680, con epicentro en Málaga, se dejó sentir en toda Andalucía. Como corresponde a una sociedad sacralizada los efectos espirituales fueron inmediatos, capitalizados por la Iglesia. La profunda conmoción causada se refleja en relaciones, memoriales, sermones y cartas pastorales. Ante la magnitud del castigo divino (pedagogía del miedo), no cabe otra vía que el arrepentimiento y la conversión, individual y colectiva. Información e interpretación se mezclan en estos documentos, que invitan a reconstruir el orden moral, que también es orden social; todo ello con una cuidada estrategia eclesial. Así se refleja en funciones religiosas, procesiones y misiones populares.The earthquake of October 9, 1680, with epicenter in Malaga, was felt in all Andalusia. Under a sacred society, its spiritual effects were immediate, designed by the Church. The severe conmotion caused is reflected in relationships, petitions, sermons and pastoral letters. Given the magnitude of the divine punishment (pedagogy of fear), there isn´t another way that the contrition and conversion, both individually and collectively. Information and interpretation are mixed in these documents, that invite to rebuild the moral order, which is also social order; all these things with a careful strategy by the Church. This is reflected in religious services, processions and popular missions

Observation and modeling of interrupted pattern coarsening: surface nanostructuring by ion erosion

Analysis of the target surface by atomic force microscopy allows us to describe quantitatively this intriguing type of pattern dynamics through a continuum equation put forward in different contexts across a wide range of length scales. The ensuing predictions can thus be consistently extended to other experimental conditions in our system. Our results illustrate the occurrence of nonequilibrium systems in which pattern formation, coarsening, and kinetic roughening appear, each of these behaviors being associated with its own spatiotemporal range.This work has been supported by Grant Nos. Study protocol on social return on investment (SROI) project of the surgical waiting list management system

In Andalusia, the right to maximum waiting times for healthcare clashes with the available supply, leading to an increase in demand in the form of waiting lists. To address this situation, the activity of private centers has been created for certain diagnostic tests. The Social Return on Investment (SROI) model evaluates an intervention from an economic and stakeholder perspective. However, there are no studies on the suitability of waiting lists using SROI, which is why it is intended to be studied as a decision-making tool for the clinical and healthcare management of waiting lists. This research protocol is designed to determine the quality of life gained, with the EuroQol-5D-5L questionnaire, and its social assessment, with the specific survey of the SROI method, and, thus, analyze the social return on investment and determine the suitability of the intervention (diagnostic endoscopy activity arranged in a contracted center). After the study, we will know the economic (cost in public health centers and the incremental cost of extraordinary health resources), social (quality of life with health), and environmental scenarios of the concerted activity intervention in order to adjust waiting list timesPartial funding for open access charge: Universidad de Málag

Unemployment duration, layoffs and competing risks

JEL Classification: J64, J65The main objective of this paper is to investigate the determinants of unemployment duration in a competing risks framework with two destination states: employment and inactivity. In particular, we analyze labour market trajectories of job losers and workers without previous labour experience using data from the Spanish Labour Force Survey (EPA) for the period 1992-2004. We find that male workers, people aged 25-34, higher educated job losers in regions with low unemployment rates and workers with previous employment experience exhibit higher exit rates from unemployment into a job. On the contrary, the same variables present a negative effect on the probability of exiting from unemployment to inactivity. We also find that non-claimants of unemployment benefits exit from unemployment faster than claimants do. Finally, the existence of a dead-end job effect is detected in the Spanish labour market during the 1990s
