Mostrador e enseñador de los turbados. Notas sobre el primer romanceado de la Guía de perplejos

Pedro de Toledo’s translation, Enseñador e Mostrador delos Turbados, is the earliest and most extensive philosophical text to appear in Spanish. The first translation into a vernacular language of RaMBaM’s Guide for the Perplexed is presented in Ms. 10289 of the Biblioteca Nacional, Madrid. The text seems an intellectual battle-field. It presents some interesting and peculiar characteristics at once: a text covered with glosses of the translator himself, and comments, variant translations, philosophical and theological disagreements, the use of rabbinic and scriptural sources, by an anonymous critical commentator. These discrepancies show how the sensitive nature of the Maimonides ideas demands a particular hermeneutics, and offers an interesting view about the Spanish Jewish controversy in the fifteenth century.La traducción cuatrocentista de la Guía de perplejos, realizada por Pedro de Toledo, es una singular y enorme empresa intelectual. Completada en el crepúsculo de un mundo de códices, manuscritos, copistas y escribanos, presenta una suerte de vocación a servir como campo de batalla hermenéutica, una obra de interpretación que no tiene fin. Un combate que se libra desde la propia trascripción del texto traducido y que tiene como ubicación física la singular materialidad del libro. Transformado el conjunto textual en un apasionante e incruento ajuste de cuentas, la contienda entre un intelectual anónimo, probablemente judío, conocedor riguroso de la filosofía, teología, exégesis, midrás y Talmud que contiene el Môrèh, y un traductor de origen converso, Pedro de Toledo, al que la cábala, la tradición heredada, se le escapa y pierde irremediablemente, bien puede servir de símbolo del destino y tensiones de una judería española cercana a su desaparición

La cartografía digital y los sistemas de información geográfica, a través de las publicaciones del Grupo de Didáctica de la AGE y la revista Didáctica Geográfica

En los últimos años han crecido las publicaciones dedicadas a la utilidad didáctica de la cartografía digital y los diferentes sistemas de información geográfica en el ámbito de la Geografía, sobre todo gracias al desarrollo de software libre y los recursos de Internet. En este trabajo se presenta un análisis de estos trabajos aparecidos en las publicaciones editadas por el grupo de trabajo de Didáctica de la Geografía de la AGE y la revista Didáctica Geográfica

La enseñanza de la climatología en los manuales escolares de ciencias sociales en Educación Primaria

La enseñanza del clima y tiempo atmosférico está muy presente a lo largo de todo el sistema educativo de nuestro país, especialmente en las primeras etapas en las que los alumnos desarrollan habilidades para el conocimiento del espacio geográfico. Este trabajo analiza cuales son los contenidos enseñados sobre este tema, los recursos empleados y el tipo de actividades más habituales que aparecen en los diferentes libros de texto de Educación Primaria. El fin último, es conocer si se realiza un adecuado uso y tratamiento de la climatología en los manuales escolares, si permite la consecución de las competencias geográficas y si se adecúa al desarrollo psicoevolutivo del alumnado de Educación Primaria

Ordinal time series analysis with the R package otsfeatures

The 21st century has witnessed a growing interest in the analysis of time series data. Whereas most of the literature on the topic deals with real-valued time series, ordinal time series have typically received much less attention. However, the development of specific analytical tools for the latter objects has substantially increased in recent years. The R package otsfeatures attempts to provide a set of simple functions for analyzing ordinal time series. In particular, several commands allowing the extraction of well-known statistical features and the execution of inferential tasks are available for the user. The output of several functions can be employed to perform traditional machine learning tasks including clustering, classification or outlier detection. otsfeatures also incorporates two datasets of financial time series which were used in the literature for clustering purposes, as well as three interesting synthetic databases. The main properties of the package are described and its use is illustrated through several examples. Researchers from a broad variety of disciplines could benefit from the powerful tools provided by otsfeatures

Preliminary results of a catastrophic model of extreme wind gust situations in peninsular Spain

Póster presentado en: 10th EUMETNET Data Management Workshop celebrado en St. Gallen, Suiza, del 28 al 30 de octubre de 2015.The CCS (Spanish Insurance Compensation Consortium) is the Spanish Agency that provides insurance coverage against weather events that involve an extraordinary risk. One of the extraordinary risks covered by the CCS refers to extraordinary wind, defined as those with wind gusts exceeding 120 km/h. The accurate delimitation of the areas in which this condition is met shows considerable difficulties in our country because of the lack of wind observations and the complexity of the terrain. The operational procedure performed at AEMET (Spanish Meteorological Agency) for estimating the areas with maximum wind gusts applies a geostatistical technique, the universal kriging, based on the observational data of maximum wind gust and drawing also on external variables: terrain elevation, distance from the shore, and the HIRLAM (High Resolution Limited Area Model) forecasting model output of maximum wind gust field. Extreme meteorological events sometimes go unnoticed but frequently become apparent due their impact on society with its corresponding consequences. Moreover, the catastrophic nature of a phenomenon depends not only on the extreme value that the climate element takes on, but also on other factors, such as population distribution or geomorphological features, among many others. In this work we present some preliminary steps in the development of a catastrophic model of extreme wind gust situations in peninsular Spain. The main aim of this model is to provide significant information for covering risk against future extreme wind situations, as well as assessing the liability owing to this risk on a year time-frame. The first steps in the development of this model are: a) the generation of climatology of the areas under extraordinary wind going back to 2010 and, b) the estimation of incurred covered loss in these years based on data from the insurer. The following step will be the estimation of a local (at municipality level at best) expected loss function from extraordinary winds depending on the intensity of the event.This project is being sponsored by CCS

Jean Améry, survivor of the Shoah, will be unable for two decades to theorize his experience, as a traumatic consequence of the violence and torture suffered. From the mid-sixties until his death, Améry will deal in essays and literarily with the destruction inflicted on him. Its narrative task will be the titanic effort to subvert the impossibility, associated with the memory of extreme pain, determinant for its victim status, through the word. A word capable of returning you –always in a partial and subsidiary way– the condition of subject. However, the experience of pain will be intangible, subsumed by time in the ethereal form of an abstraction. memory is revealed in Améry as incapable against the substance of pain, only accessible to recurrent scenes of painful clarity for vision.Jean Améry, superviviente de la Shoá, experimentará durante dos décadas la clausura de la palabra, como consecuencia traumática de la violencia y la tortura padecidas. Desde mediados de los años sesenta hasta su muerte, Améry se ocupará ensayística y literariamente de la destrucción infligida a él.
