Fair School Placement
This paper introduces &tao;-fairness as a compromise solution reconciling Pareto efficiency and equity in School Choice Problems. We show that, by considering a weak notion of equity that we refer to as ¿-equity, it is possible to contribute positively to solve an open debate, originated by the efficiency-equity trade-off of the schooling problem. We also suggest a slight modification to some allocative procedures recently introduced in the United States to compute ¿-fair allocations and provide support for this (possible) reformulation.School Choice Problem, Fair Matching
Hiring procedures to implement stable allocations
We implement the core correspondence in Subgame Perfect Equilibrium using a simplesequential mechanism in which firms propose a salary to each worker (in the first stage). Then ,each worker accepts at most one proposal (second stage). Moreover, we show that, if agents'preferences are additive, this mechanism implements in Subgame Perfect Equilibrium that firms'optimal correspondence when firms employ undominated strategies. Finally we construct anothersimple sequential mechanism to implement workers' optimal correspondence when agents'preferences are additive.Job matching markets, implementation, mechanism design
Hiring procedures to implement stable allocations
Altres ajuts: DGCYT/PB 92-0590Altres ajuts: DGCYT/PB 94-1504We implement the stable correspondence of a job matching market in Subgame Perfect Equilibrium. We use a simple sequential mechanism in which firms propose a salary to each worker (first stage) and, then, each worker accepts at most one proposal (second stage). Moreover, if agents' preferences are additive, this mechanism implements in Subgame Perfect Equilibrium the firms' optimal correspondence when firms use undominated strategies. Finally, we construct another simple sequential mechanism where the order of decisions is permuted and which implements the workers' optimal correspondence when agents' preferences are additive
Pigouvian taxes: A strategic approach
This paper analyzes the problem of designing mechanisms to implement efficient solutions in economies with externalities. We provide two simple mechanisms implementing the Pigouvian Social Choice Correspondence in environments in which coalitions can be formed. Finally, we study economies in which agents are incompletely informed, and provide a mechanism that implements this social choice correspondence in Bayesian equilibrium.Pigouvian taxes, mechanism design, implementation
A new prospect of additivity in bankruptcy problems
As it is known, there is no rule satisfying Additivity on the complete domain of bankruptcy problems. This paper proposes a notion of partial Additivity in this context, to be called µ-Additivity. We find that µ-Additivity, together with two quite compelling axioms, Anonymity and Continuity, identify the Minimal Overlap rule, introduced by O'Neill (1982).bankruptcy problems, additivity, minimal overlap rule.
Simple mechanisms to implement the core of college admissions problems
This paper provides three simple mechanisms to implement allocations in the core of matching markets. We analyze some sequential mechanisms which mimic matching procedures for many-to-one real life matching markets. We show that only core allocations should be attained when agents act strategically faced with these mechanisms. Two mechanisms implement the core correspondence in SPE, whereas the third implements the students' optimal stable solution.College admissions problems, mechanism design
Impact of the rotavirus vaccine in Valladolid, Spain: An interrupted time series analysis
Producción CientíficaRotavirus vaccines (RV) have decreased the infant morbidity and mortality in countries that included RV
in their national schedule. Rotavirus vaccination is recommended by the Spanish Society of Pediatrics;
however, Spain, as most countries in Europe, has authorized commercialization but not included RV in
its national vaccination program. We assessed the impact of RV on the rotavirus hospitalization rate
through an interrupted time series analysis. There was a 46.8% (95% CI: 29.3–60.2) decrease on the rotavirus
hospitalizations rate in the study region after RV commercialization in 2006. Currently there is limited
evidence about the impact of RV in Europe, especially among countries not offering systematic
vaccination in their national schedule. Documentation of RV coverage, effectiveness and impact is
urgently needed in these countries
Soft X-rays spectroscopy with a commercial CMOS image sensor at room temperature
Besides their application in point and shoot cameras, webcams, and cell phones, it has been shown that CMOS image sensors (CIS) can be used for dosimetry, X-ray and neutron imaging applications. In this work we will discuss the application of an ON Semiconductor MT9M001 CIS, in low energy X-ray spectroscopy. The device is a monochromatic front-side illuminated sensor, very popular in consumer electronics. In this work we introduce the configuration selected for the mentioned sensor, the image processing techniques and event selection criteria, implemented in order to measure the X-ray energy in the range from 1-10 keV. Several fluorescence lines of different samples have been resolved, and for first time the line resolution have been measured and analyzed. We achieved a FWHM of 232 eV at 6.4 keV, and we concluded that incomplete charge collection (ICC) of the charge produced by the X-ray contributes to the resolution, being this effect more important at higher X-ray energies. The results analyzed in this work indicate that the mentioned CIS are specially suitable for X-ray applications in which energy and spatial resolutions are simultaneously required.Fil: Sofo Haro, Miguel Francisco.
