Importance of interlinguistic similarity and stable bilingualism when two languages compete

In order to analyze the dynamics of two languages in competition, one approach is to fit historical data on their numbers of speakers with a mathematical model in which the parameters are interpreted as the similarity between those languages and their relative status. Within this approach, we show here, on the basis of a detailed analysis and extensive calculations, the outcomes that can emerge for given values of these parameters. Contrary to previous results, it is possible that in the long term both languages coexist and survive. This happens only when there is a stable bilingual group, and this is possible only if the competing languages are sufficiently similar, in which case its occurrence is favoured by both similarity and status symmetry.Comment: to appear in New Journal of Physic

Analysis and evolution of the content on cinema in the Spanish cinematographic press (1910-2010)

Este artículo expone los resultados del análisis de los temas que protagonizan la prensa cinematográfica y su evolución entre 1910 y 2010, sin olvidar los discursos en los que toman cuerpo. Se ha trabajado sobre una muestra de 285 revistas de cine, en la que ha sido identificado un modelo generalista y otro especializado de prensa cinematográfica, y dentro de este último publicaciones dedicadas a la cinematografía, las estrellas, las películas o, entre otros temas, los géneros cinematográficos.This article outlines the results of an analysis undertaken on the evolution of the film press between 1910 and 2010 and the main themes it covered, without discarding the discourses they have derived from. We have worked with a sample of 285 film magazines, in which we have identified both a general ist and a specialized model of film press, and within the latter, publications dedicated to cinematography, film stars, films and, among others, cinematographic genre

Narrators and reflexiveness in the political documentary cinema of the period between late francoism and the democratic transition (1967-1977)

En el tardofranquismo y la Transición democrática surge un cine documental que busca contrainformar, estimular la toma de conciencia respecto a ciertos problemas sociales e incluso contribuir al cambio social y político. Este cine se caracteriza por el enfrentamiento a los discursos informativos audiovisuales de la dictadura, tanto en lo referente a los temas que aborda como, sobre todo, a la manera de tratarlos. Este artículo analiza dos de las estrategias empleadas para ello: la proliferación de subnarradores y la diversidad de actitudes de estos frente a lo narrado.A type of documentary film arose during the period between late Francoism and the democratic transition that sought to provide alternative information, stimulate awareness about certain social problems and even contribute to social and political change. This type of cinema is characterized by a confrontation with the audio-visual informative discourses of the dictatorship, both in regard to the issues addressed and, above all, about how they were treated. This article analyses two of the strategies employed to do this: the proliferation of sub-narrators and the variety of these narrators’ attitudes to what was being narrated

La reflexión y la crítica católica en la prensa cinematográfica bajo el franquismo. Del nacional-catolicismo a Ingmar Bergman

This article discusses Catholic reflection in the film press under the Franco dictatorship. With a leading role in education, media and culture, the assumptions of the Catholic Church on the silver screen would be anathema to attempts to analyse their operation as a phenomenon, especially their influence on children and young people and the development of some critical assumptions that enabled highlighting films with assumed values. Filmology will be essential in the field of reflection, which will involve a department at the Higher Centre for Scientific Research. With regards to critical exercise, the Catholics will reformulate and adapt main critical paradigms to their assumptions in each moment.Este artículo aborda la reflexión católica en la prensa cinematográfica bajo la dictadura franquista. Con un papel destacado en la educación, los medios de comunicación y la cultura, los supuestos de la iglesia católica sobre la pantalla cinematográfica discurrirán del anatema a los intentos de analizar su funcionamiento como fenómeno, en especial su influencia sobre la infancia y la juventud, y la elaboración de unos supuestos críticos que permitan destacar las películas con valores asumibles. En el ámbito de la reflexión será fundamental la Filmología, que contará con un departamento en el Centro Superior de Investigaciones Científicas; en lo referente al ejercicio crítico, los católicos reformularán y adaptarán a sus supuestos los principales paradigmas críticos de cada momento

De la práctica crítica y reflexiva a la fílmica: la escritura sobre cine en la formaión de cineastas profesionales bajo el franquismo

El presente artículo pretende aproximarse a las prácticas previas en la escritura sobre cine de algunos directores que se introdujeron en la dirección de cine profesional en España entre 1939 y 1971, fechas correspondientes al final de la Guerra Civil y a la desaparición de la revista Nuestro Cine respectivamente. La hipótesis que rige estas páginas es la dificultad para alcanzar los supuestos sobre la naturaleza —qué es o qué debería ser— y funciones del cine que plantean los paradigmas críticos que sustentan el ejercicio valorativo de la crítica. Muchos de los textos aquí mencionados se circunscriben a alguno de los paradigmas más destacados en su momento, y algunas de las primeras películas de sus autores buscan encarnarlos fílmicamente
