Creation Processes in Architecture or Imaginary Constructions

Este artículo busca poner de presente la manera en que los procesos de creación en arquitectura producen especulaciones sobre el espacio urbano que derivan en discursos pertenecientes al campo del arte -- Para ello se analizarán algunas de las obras bidimensionales del grupo Utopía a través de discursos propios del arte, la arquitectura y el urbanismo, con el fin de situar su producción plástica en un horizonte de comprensión que a primera vista parece difuso -- El grupo Utopía, conformado por los arquitectos Ana Patricia Gómez, Fabio Antonio Ramírez y Jorge Mario Gómez, constituye uno de los colectivos pioneros en la relación entre arte y arquitectura en Colombia y se ha encargado, desde 1979, de llevar el lenguaje utilizado en los procesos de diseño arquitectónico a los territorios del arte -- Para el análisis de su obra se acudirá también a algunos artistas-arquitectos que sirvieron como fuente de referencia desde el panorama internacional a la actividad desarrollada entre 1979 y 1992 por el grupo Utopía, particularmente Rem Koolhaas, Aldo Rossi, Cedric Price, y los colectivos Archigram y Superstudio.This article intends to show how architectural creative processes produce speculative images about the urban space that derive in discourses characteristic of the art field -- For this purpose, some graphic works of Utopia will be analyzed through visual art, architecture and urbanism discourses, in order to place the group´s art work within a horizon of understanding that at first appears diffuse -- Utopia group formed by architects Ana Patricia Gómez, Fabio Antonio Ramirez and Jorge Mario Gómez, constitutes one of the first art-architecture fusion groups in Colombia, and has been in charge since 1979 of bringing the language used in architectural design processes to territories of art -- For the purpose of analyzing their work, some international artists-architects who served as a reference for Utopia´s activity between 1979 and 1992, particularly Rem Koolhaas, Aldo Rossi, Cedric Price and groups Archigram and Superstudio will also be taken into consideration

Notes about the instant, memory and gestures in Maria Teresa Cano's work

El presente texto analiza algunas de las obras de la artista María Teresa Cano a la luz de las nociones de instante, memoria y gesto. El trabajo de Cano, poco revisado por la teoría y la historia del arte contemporáneo en Colombia, evidencia las rupturas que ocurrieron en los modos de representación durante la década del ochenta en el país. El arte participativo, el arte de acción, la incorporación de la comida como soporte y el uso de situaciones cotidianas como punto de referencia para varias obras objetuales sitúan el trabajo de la artista en un lugar poco común dentro de los estudios históricos del campo artístico nacional. Si bien la obra de Cano resulta extensa y plural en sus medios, interesa hacer algunas anotaciones a propósito del uso del cuerpo y el gesto, pues sus estrategias de trabajo constituyen un lugar escasamente visitado por artistas de su misma generación.This paper analyzes some of the works of the artist Maria Teresa Cano in light of the notions of instant, memory and gesture. Cano's work, which has not been reviewed enough by the theory and history of contemporary art in Colombia, demonstrates the ruptures that occurred in the types of representation in the country during the eighties. Participatory art, action art, the inclusion of food as support and the use of everyday situations as a point of reference for various object-based works, place her work in an unusual place within the historical studies of the national art scene. Although Cano's work is extensive and varied in its media, some notes should be made about the use of the body and the gesture, since her work strategies constitute a place rarely visited by artists of her own generation

Fiction and projecting: architecture and image in the work of the Utopía group (Medellín, 1979-2009)

This article aims to analyze the work of the Utopía group, a collective of three architects from the city of Medellín (Colombia), who produced their artworks between 1979 and 2009. In order to do this, the text describes their artistic career, analyzes some of their major works, which rely on intertextual relations with architecture, and proposes a link between the fictional and project-oriented aspects based on the architectural references that can be found in their work. By examining the group’s influences and by discussing theories and notions common to architecture, urbanism, and visual arts, the article aims to address the question of the utopian dimension inherent to aesthetic contemplations on the city; as well as to review an important chapter of Colombian art history

El liderazgo en las empresas del sector público en el municipio de Medellín

La mayoría de organizaciones se forman en el ámbito de la modernidad, con unas características de autoritarismo y centralismo, con líneas de mando rígidas que impiden que el proceso gerencial de éstas cumpla con su respectivo papel histórico. Indudablemente que dentro de estas se encuentran las empresas del sector público de la ciudad de Medellín, donde la excesiva concentración del poder por parte de las autoridades, impide la participación de sus funcionarios en las tomas de decisiones y en la formulación de estrategias que beneficien estas instancias y a toda la organización. En muchas de estas empresas los cambios generados por las contiendas políticas, con lleva a una crisis gerencial donde los directivos son más jefes que líderes, ejerciendo sus funciones sin capacidad para integrar las diferentes áreas de la empresa ni a su capital humano. La presente investigación tiene como propósito caracterizar y analizar los diferentes estilos de liderazgo existentes en las empresas del sector público en la ciudad de Medellín. Esta investigación se caracteriza por su enfoque eminentemente cualitativo donde la observación del investigador y la entrevista realizada a informantes claves como técnica de recolección de información, permitieron la obtención de datos acerca de las conductas de los directivos de estas empresas y la existencia o no de un estilo de liderazgo definido. De la misma forma se realizó una categorización de las fuentes que permitió la validación de la información y el establecimiento de coincidencias y divergencias entre los actores y el investigador, y al mismo tiempo la generación de conocimiento y reflexiones que conllevaron a esgrimir diferentes recomendaciones que sin duda alguna redundaran en beneficios no solamente para las empresas del sector público sino también para el Estado que a través de estas se niega a sobrevivir en un ambiente donde el liderazgo se convierte en protagonista.Most organizations are formed in the field of modernity, with characteristics of authoritarianism and centralism, rigid lines of control that prevent the management process of these to fulfill its respective role in history. Undoubtedly in these are public sector enterprises in the city of Medellin, where the excessive concentration of power by the authorities prevent the participation of its officials in decision making and formulation of strategies that benefit these bodies and the entire organization. In many of these companies the changes wrought by political strife, with leads to a crisis management where managers are more heads that leaders exercise its functions without the ability to integrate different areas of the company or its human capital. The present investigation aims to characterize and analyze the different leadership styles existing in the public sector enterprises in the city of Medellin. This research is characterized by its eminently qualitative approach where the researcher's observation and key informant interview and data collection technique, allowed obtaining data about the behavior of the managers of these companies and the existence of a defined leadership style. Likewise there was a categorization of the sources that allowed the validation of information and establishing similarities and differences between the actors and the researcher, while the generation of knowledge and insights that led to different recommendations wield without certainly be of benefit not only for public sector companies but also for the State through these refuses to survive in an environment where leadership becomes the protagonist

Bivariate beta regression models: a Bayesian approach applied to educational data

In this paper we propose a bivariate beta regression model, de¯ning the beta distribution derived from Farlie-Gumbel-Morgenstern (FGM) copulas. This model could be a good alternative to analyze pairs of proportions, when they are not independent. To ¯t the proposed models we apply standard existing MCMC (Markov Chain Monte Carlo) methods to simulate samples for the joint posterior of interest, using the Bayesian methodology proposed by Cepeda and Gamerman (2001) and Cepeda and Gamerman (2005). Two examples are introduced to illustrate the proposed methodology: an example with simulated bivariate data and an example with a real data set

Enteral stents: Complications and their management

The treatment of malignant colonic and gastric outlet obstruction with self-expanding metallic stents (SEMS) is an established technique that can be performed by radiologic or a combination of radiologic and endoscopic guidance. The procedure is very effective to relieve the obstructive symptoms of advanced malignancies, with important clinical benefits and significant improvement in quality of life for the patients. Despite much advancement in the designs of SEMS, enteral stent placement is still associated with some significant early and late complications. Stent dysfunction mainly caused by tumor ingrowth/over growth, and stent migration when covered stent are used, are relatively common complications and many times require reinterventions
