Para tanto foram analisadas a Biblioteca Pública do Paraná, Biblioteca Pública Municipal e Biblioteca Pública Cidadã Zilda Arns Neumann, Biblioteca Municipal Professor Barreiros Filho, Biblioteca Municipal Dr. Fritz Müller, Biblioteca Municipal Santos Dumont, Biblioteca Pública do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Biblioteca Lucília Minssen, Biblioteca Pública Municipal Josué Guimarães, Biblioteca Municipal Luiz Carlos Barbosa Lessa e Biblioteca Pública Municipal Dr. Demetrio Niederauer. The following research presents an analysis sites in ten public libraries in the South of Brazil. Therefore, we analyzed the Public Library of Paraná, Public Library and Public Library Citizen Zilda Arns Neumann, Municipal Library Teacher Barreiros Son, Municipal Library Dr. Fritz Müller, Santos Dumont Municipal Library, State Library of Rio Grande do Sul, Library Lucilia Minssen, Josué Guimarães Municipal Public Library, Municipal Library Luiz Carlos Barbosa Lessa and Municipal Public Library Dr. Demetrio Niederauer. To know that cultural activities are promoted in these libraries we used a comparative framework, through which it came to the results mentioned at the end, which are based on a qualitative approach. It can be seen then that public libraries promote cultural activities often enough, to attract users into the library and thus form first readers and consequently users of the services offered by libraries

The Role of Education Pertaining to Female Political Leadership in Kenya

    Get PDF
Female participation in leadership remains essential to ensure balanced decision-making and public outcomes. However, male dominance and gender stereotypes have been identified as significant barriers that hinder women from accessing political leadership. In contrast, little is known about the role of education in the ascension of women to leadership positions. This study examines the educational experiences of Kenyan female political leaders using a phenomenographic approach based on interviews. Findings indicated that education is an enabling factor for female leaders as it provides credibility, fosters knowledge seeking and decision-making skills. Informal educational activities impart leadership essential proficiencies such as communication skills. Teachers were found to be influential as mentors, while parents facilitated the effective engagement of female leaders in education

The mitigating effect of work-integrated learning on graduate employment in South Africa

Published ArticleThis article seeks to provide theoretical insight into supply and demand factors within higher education and how these relate to each other and to graduate unemployment within the South African context. Research was undertaken primarily to determine the graduate unemployment rate at a higher education institution in South Africa and secondly to ascertain whether work-integrated learning (WIL) had an effect on graduate unemployment. Statistical analysis revealed that the graduate unemployment rate at a certain higher education institution in 2011 was 46% while WIL reduced graduate unemployment. The unemployment rate for students who had had no WIL was 63%, whereas the unemployment rate for those who had complete WIL in the course of their higher education training decreased to 26%. Findings supporting the mitigating influence of WIL are a potentially valuable contribution to policy and practice in higher education

Thesis (MNur)--Stellenbosch University, 2025.Jonck, C. 2025. The perceptions of peritoneal dialsis patients and their caregivers in a military hospital in Saudi Arabia regarding exit site care. Unpublished masters thesis. Stellenbosch: Stellenbosch University [online]. Available: https://scholar.sun.ac.za/items/a12e9f75-0e0f-413e-8180-8ac1dd84ca2cIntroduction and background: Catheter-related infections are significant complications for patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD), particularly catheter exit site infections. These infections are a critical concern for PD patients, increasing the risk of further tunnel infections and peritonitis. Exit site care should be performed using the correct techniques and self-care practices, and both patients and caregivers should follow infection control principles. Understanding the perceptions of PD patients and caregivers on catheter exit site care and infections can provide insights into their knowledge, practices, potential barriers and factors affecting the overall management of the exit site. Methods: This study employed an exploratory-descriptive, qualitative research design to explore the perceptions of PD patients and their caregivers. It was conducted in a PD unit at a military hospital in Taif, Saudi Arabia. A purposive sampling method was used, and the study included nine PD patients and five caregivers. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews guided by an interview schedule, with thematic analysis applied to interpret the narrative data. The Health Research Ethics Committee of Stellenbosch University granted ethical approval, and permission was obtained from the research committee at the selected institution. The study followed principles of trustworthiness and adhered to ethical standards. Results: The data revealed four main themes and subthemes. Participants shared similar views on exit site care and infection management, demonstrating familiarity with the correct exit site care procedures. Although they understood what constitutes best practices, various barriers were identified, preventing consistent adherence to exit site care. Identified barriers included routine fatigue, personal responsibilities, and limited access to medical supplies. The findings suggest that addressing these challenges and finding solutions to overcome them may encourage participants to follow recommended exit site care practices, ultimately preventing infections. Conclusion: In promoting effective exit site care practices, it is necessary to maintain a healthy exit site to reduce infection rates among PD patients. Strategies should be created to help patients and caregivers overcome the barriers.Master

    On uniquely packable trees

An ii-packing in a graph GG is a set of vertices that are pairwise distance more than ii apart. A \emph{packing colouring} of GG is a partition X={X1,X2,,Xk}X=\{X_{1},X_{2},\ldots,X_{k}\} of V(G)V(G) such that each colour class XiX_{i} is an ii-packing. The minimum order kk of a packing colouring is called the packing chromatic number of GG, denoted by χρ(G)\chi_{\rho}(G). In this paper we investigate the existence of trees TT for which there is only one packing colouring using χρ(T)\chi_\rho(T) colours. For the case χρ(T)=3\chi_\rho(T)=3, we completely characterise all such trees. As a by-product we obtain sets of uniquely 33-χρ\chi_\rho-packable trees with monotone χρ\chi_{\rho}-coloring and non-monotone χρ\chi_{\rho}-coloring respectively

This paper reports on grade 10 learner suggestions on measures that can be taken to improve the subject Life Orientation with specific reference to career guidance. The sample consisted out of 390 learners from the central Free State region of South Africa, the Mangaung area. The majority of the respondents were Afrikaans-speaking females from middle income households. Data was gathered by means of open-ended questions were respondents had to elaborate using narratives. A qualitative thematic discourse analysis was used in data analysis underpinned by the Systems Theory Framework. Three distinct themes emerged namely Intrapersonal, Societal and Environmental-societal Systems suggestions. Broad sub-themes were identified with reference to the second mentioned namely improved linkage between subject and career choices, enhanced focus on careers in class and extension of information to a greater variety of careers. It is suggested that these suggestions be used as a point of departure to facilitate discussions between communities of practice and communities of learners. DOI: 10.5901/mjss.2015.v6n1s1p1
