    Annotation of Two Soil Mycobacteriophages: JacoRen57 and DrLupo

    We discovered two novel Mycobacteriophagesfrom soil samples. JacoRen57 is a singleton, most closely related to cluster AB phages. DrLupois a member of the rare H2 sub-cluster containing only one other member. Both phages exhibit a siphoviridaemorphotype, double-stranded DNA genome, and a non-contractile tail. The genome of JacoRen57 is composed of 52,411 base pairs with a 56.7% GC content and includes genes and plaque morphology that suggest a lytic life cycle. The genome is organized according to the following order from the left to right arm: 33 forward genes followed by 16 reverse genes and 24 forward genes. We identified functions for 33 of the 73 protein coding genes using bioinformatics software. The 70,030 base-pairgenome of DrLupohas a 57.5% GC content and contains genes that support a lytic life cycle. We identified 110 forward genes and assigned functions to 25 of them

    Estimating Seasonal Movements of Chinook Salmon in Lake Huron from Efficiency Analysis of Coded Wire Tag Recoveries in Recreational Fisheries

    The decline of hatchery‐reared Chinook salmon Oncorhynchus tshawytscha stocks in Lakes Huron and Michigan during the 1980s prompted mass‐tagging programs to investigate reproduction, poststocking survival, and movements. In Lake Huron, millions of smolts implanted with coded wire tags (CWTs) were released in Michigan waters and recovered from charter and noncharter fisheries, surveys, and weirs. Using generalized linear models (GLMs), we investigated Chinook salmon seasonal movements based on the spatial and temporal distributions of recoveries by fishing trips in U.S. recreational fisheries and recovery efficiency. We used models incorporating area, month, year, and recovery source; creel‐clerk and “headhunter” (CWT collection specialist) samples; and charter captain reports. We implemented models for recoveries regardless of release area and from one particular area. All model predictors and interactions between month and area were significant. The variation in recovery levels among recovery sources was larger than temporal or spatial variation. Headhunters were 7 times more efficient than captains in recovering CWTs from charter‐boat catch and 11 times more efficient than clerks in recovering CWTs from non‐charter‐boat catch; this was due to the higher catches experienced in charter than in noncharter trips and to different recovery program goals. The spatial and temporal distribution of GLM‐standardized recovery levels suggested that Chinook salmon released along the western coast of Lake Huron moved near shore during early spring and north during summer, returning mostly to nearby stocking areas in summer and fall. To complement our GLM analysis, we evaluated the distributions of CWT salmon released and recovered in U.S. and Canadian waters by all sources. Data supported previous conclusions on longitudinal movements and indicated that in spring fish moved from eastern locations to near shore in western Lake Huron then back to overwinter locations in autumn. These movement patterns coincided with seasonal prey species concentrations and favorable temperatures.     Psychiatric symptoms in COVID-19-positive individuals in the general population: Trajectories of depression, anxiety, and insomnia

    The present study investigates differences in the trajectories of anxiety, depression, and sleep problems among infected versus non-infected case-controlled individuals. Patients who tested positive for COVID-19 were selected from a representative sample in Norway (N > 10,000). In total, 126 of these individuals were infected during the project period, and this group was analyzed at T5 (May 2021). Of these positive cases, those who had completed both PHQ-9 and GAD-7 at all three measurement points were selected for longitudinal analysis using multilevel modeling. There was a significant difference at T5 between those who had tested positive for COVID-19 and matched controls. Anxiety and depression were reduced among those who tested positive, but there were no differences in trajectory when compared to matched controls. Limitations include the use of self-report measures and the assessment of symptoms at a time when strict virus mitigation protocols were in place. The present findings indicate that individuals who test positive for COVID-19 exhibit higher levels of depressive symptoms after restrictions are lifted. However, comparison of anxiety and depression symptom trajectories with matched controls reveals that both groups exhibited stable or slightly decreased symptoms.publishedVersio

    ESTABLISHING TRAINING PARAMETERS FOR A DEEP NEURAL NETWORK TO ASSESS 2D, FRONTAL PLANE KINEMATICS

    The purpose of this study was to establish the optimal training parameters to assess frontal plane, 2D kinematics using DeepLabCut. DeepLabCut is an open-source platform that allows the user to train neural networks for customized feature detection in 2D videos. Deep neural networks were trained using frontal plane videos from 41 participants who completed single- and double-leg drop landings. Networks were trained with an increasing number of training iterations (25-250k) and training frames (200-800). Our results indicate that a minimum of 175k training iterations and 400 training frames were adequate for stable network performance (training/test errors= 2.8/3.7 pixels)

    Transtheoretical Model-based multiple behavior intervention for weight management: Effectiveness on a population basis

    Background: The increasing prevalence of overweight and obesity underscores the need for evidence-based, easily disseminable interventions for weight management that can be delivered on a population basis. The Transtheoretical Model (TTM) offers a promising theoretical framework for multiple behavior weight management interventions. Methods: Overweight or obese adults (BMI 25–39.9; n = 1277) were randomized to no-treatment control or home-based, stage-matched multiple behavior interventions for up to three behaviors related to weight management at 0, 3, 6, and 9 months. All participants were re-assessed at 6, 12, and 24 months. Results: Significant treatment effects were found for healthy eating (47.5% versus 34.3%), exercise (44.90% versus 38.10%), managing emotional distress (49.7% versus 30.30%), and untreated fruit and vegetable intake (48.5% versus 39.0%) progressing to Action/Maintenance at 24 months. The groups differed on weight lost at 24 months. Co-variation of behavior change occurred and was much more pronounced in the treatment group, where individuals progressing to Action/Maintenance for a single behavior were 2.5–5 times more likely to make progress on another behavior. The impact of the multiple behavior intervention was more than three times that of single behavior interventions. Conclusions: This study demonstrates the ability of TTM-based tailored feedback to improve healthy eating, exercise, managing emotional distress, and weight on a population basis.     Development and Validity of a Workplace Health Promotion Best Practices Assessment

    Objective: To explore the factor structure of the HERO Health and Well-being Best Practices Scorecard in Collaboration with Mercer (HERO Scorecard) to develop a reduced version and examine the reliability and validity of that version. Methods: A reduced version of the HERO Scorecard was developed through formal statistical analyses on data collected from 845 organizations that completed the original HERO Scorecard. Results: The final factors in the reduced Scorecard represented content pertaining to organizational and leadership support, program comprehensiveness, program integration, and incentives. All four implemented practices were found to have a strong, statistically significant effect on perceived effectiveness. Organizational and leadership support had the strongest effect (ÎČ = 0.56), followed by incentives (ÎČ = 0.23). Conclusion: The condensed version of the HERO Scorecard has the potential to be a promising tool for future research on the extent to which employers are adopting best practices in their health and well-being (HWB) initiatives
