SCALABLE AND EFFICIENT VERTICAL HANDOVER DECISION ALGORITHMS IN VEHICULAR NETWORK CONTEXTS

A Prospective Analysis of Analog Audio Recording with Web Servers

    Get PDF
This paper analyzes the possibility of implementing a variety of analog and acoustical processes for music production as remote audio servers accessed by the World Wide Web. The opportunity is motivated by the simple idea of making a MIDI-controlled analog synthesizer available to the generalpublic as a batched recording service, for which a prototype has been developed and described in [Johann and Zawacki, 2012]. As soon as the advantages of such system are considered, the question arises as what other instruments and audio processes could be implemented as servers, providingquality and cost effective remote access from anywhere, to anyone. The ultimate goal is to allow musicians to compose, record and mix their music from simple tools in their computers but having the opportunity to access alsovery high-quality analog an real instruments for final sound rendering. In this text, both digitally controlled and old analog synthesizers are considered, as well as adapted and custom instruments, acoustical musical instruments ofmany sorts, effects audio processing units, analog mixing consoles and a few others. Each different class of tools has its own context, requirements and some challenges, whose discussion is the main focus of the present work, thatalso highlights the many commercial and creative possibilities of such an ubiquitous approach to analog audio

Will we ever teach mathematics again in the way we used to before the pandemic?

After about two years of emergency remote teaching during the pandemic, the teaching of mathematics is slowly returning to (what used to be called) normal. However, after the period of mostly teaching online, there is uncertainty about the extent to which we will return to the way we were teaching before. In this survey paper we attempt to give some background to the impact that emergency remote teaching may have had on teaching mathematics. We examine the possible social implications and then focus on the changing mathematics classroom, focusing on the actual mathematics curriculum, learning design and assessment, the role of collaborative activities and social media, educational videos, and the role of family and parents in future. There are indicators from the literature that educators may not return to the traditional way of teaching entirely, especially in secondary and higher education. We conclude with describing some possible new research areas that have developed through emergency remote teaching, including online education for younger learners, local learning ecosystems, the role of family and parents, instructional design, and the mathematics content of curricula

This paper develops the strategic alignment of organizational behavior through the organizations´ image, prioritization and information security practices. To this end, information security is studied based on the business requirements of confidentiality, integrity and availability by applying a tool which integrates the strategic, tactical and operational vision through the following framework: Balanced Scorecard - BSC (strategic) x Control Objectives for Information and Related Technology - COBIT (tactical) x International Organization for Standardization - ISO/International Electro Technical Commission - IEC27002 (operational). Another image instrument of the organization is applied in parallel with this analysis to identify and analyze performance involving profiles related to mechanistic, psychic prisons, political systems, instruments of domination, organisms, cybernetics, flux and transformation (MORGAN, 1996). Finally, a model of strategic prioritization, based on compensatory fuzzy logic (ESPIN and VANTI, 2005), is applied. The method was applied to an industrial company located in southern Brazil. The results with the application show two organizational images: "organism" and "flux and transformation ". The strategic priorities indicated a significant search for new business services and international markets. Regarding protection of information, security found the gap between "minimum" and "Reasonable" and in domain 8 (HR) of standard ISO/IEC27002, considered 71% protection as "inappropriate" and "minimal" in the IT Governance context

Posicionamento de Circuitos 3D Considerando o Planejamento de 3D-Vias

    Get PDF

Ecologically grounded multimodal design:The Palafito 1.0 study

We present results of a ten-month design study targeting the observation of creative artistic practice by a video-artist, a sculptor and a composer. The study yielded the multimedia installation Palafito/Palafita/Home-on-stilts 1.0, featuring 19:30 minutes of sonic material and video footage, and three 5x8x3-meter raw-wood sculptures. This paper focuses on the procedural dimensions of the asynchronous, ubiquitous group activities carried out by the three subjects through light-weight, off-the-shelf infrastructure. Data was extracted from a virtual forum and a file repository. The analysis of the creative exchange indicated cycles of activity alternating between reflection, exploratory action and product-oriented action. The participants were engaged in reflective activities 63% of the time, epistemic activities spanned 33% of the study and product-oriented activities accounted for only 4% of the creative design cycle. Dialogic activities did not follow a regular pattern, but a relationship between enactive and dialogic activities was observed. We discuss the implications of these results for embedded-embodied approaches to sound art

A Method for I/O Pins Partitioning Targeting 3D VLSI Circuits

    Get PDF
Abstract. This paper presents an algorithm for I/O pins partitioning and placement targeting 3D circuits. The method starts from a standard 2D placement of the pins around a flat rectangle and outputs a 3D representation of the circuit composed of a set of tiers and pins placed at the four sides of the resulting cube. The proposed algorithm targets a balanced distribution of the I/Os that is required both for accommodating the pins evenly as well as to serve as an starting point for cell placement algorithms that are initially guided by I/O's locations, such as analytical placers. Moreover, the I/O partitioning tries to set pins in such a way the it allows the cell placer to reach a reduced number of 3D-Vias. The method works in two phases: first the I/O partitioning considering the logic distances as weights; second, fix the I/Os and perform partitioning of the cells. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the approach on balance and number of 3D-Vias compared to simplistic methods for I/O partitioning, including traditional min-cut algorithms. Since our method contains the information of the whole circuit compressed in a small graph, it could actually improve the partitioning algorithm at the expense of more CPU time. Additional experiments demonstrated that the method could be adapted to further reduce the number of 3D-Vias if the I/O pin balance constraint can be relaxed
