10siThe influence of phosphorus and water on methane catalytic combustion was studied over Pd@CeO2 model catalysts supported on graphite, designed to be suitable for X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy/Synchrotron Radiation Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS/SRPES) analysis. In the absence of P, the catalyst was active for the methane oxidation reaction, although introduction of 15% H2O to the reaction mixture did cause reversible deactivation. In the presence of P, both thermal and chemical aging treatments resulted in partial loss of activity due to morphological transformation of the catalyst, as revealed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) analysis. At 600 °C the combined presence of PO43− and water vapor caused a rapid, irreversible deactivation of the catalyst. XPS/SRPES analysis, combined with operando X-ray Absorption Near Edge Structure (XANES) and AFM measurements, indicated that water induces severe aggregation of CeO2 nanoparticles, exposure of CePO4 on the outer layer of the aggregates and incorporation of the catalytic-active Pd nanoparticles into the bulk. This demonstrates a temperature-activated process for P-poisoning of oxidation catalysts in which water vapor plays a crucial role.partially_openembargoed_20171009Monai, Matteo; Montini, Tiziano; Melchionna, Michele; Duchoň, Tomáš; Kúš, Peter; Tsud, Nataliya; Prince, Kevin C.; Matolin, Vladimir; Gorte, Raymond J.; Fornasiero, PaoloMonai, Matteo; Montini, Tiziano; Melchionna, Michele; Duchoň, Tomáš; Kúš, Peter; Tsud, Nataliya; Prince, Kevin C.; Matolin, Vladimir; Gorte, Raymond J.; Fornasiero, Paol

Shrinking-Hole Colloidal Lithography: Self-Aligned Nanofabrication of Complex Plasmonic Nanoantennas

    Get PDF
Plasmonic nanoantennas create locally strongly enhanced electric fields in so-called hot spots. To place a relevant nanoobject with high accuracy in such a hot spot is crucial to fully capitalize on the potential of nanoantennas to control, detect, and enhance processes at the nanoscale. With state-of-the-art nanofabrication, in particular when several materials are to be used, small gaps between antenna elements are sought, and large surface areas are to be patterned, this is a grand challenge. Here we introduce self-aligned, bottom-up and self-assembly based Shrinking-Hole Colloidal Lithography, which provides (i) unique control of the size and position of subsequently deposited particles forming the nanoantenna itself, and (ii) allows delivery of nanoobjects consisting of a material of choice to the antenna hot spot, all in a single lithography step and, if desired, uniformly covering several square centimeters of surface. We illustrate the functionality of SHCL nanoantenna arrangements by (i) an optical hydrogen sensor exploiting the polarization dependent sensitivity of an Au-Pd nanoantenna ensemble; and (ii) single particle hydrogen sensing with an Au dimer nanoantenna with a small Pd nanoparticle in the hot spot

The readiness of the Czech army members to provide first aid in a dangerous environment.

This master thesis is focused on the issue of providing first aid in combat conditions according to the principles of Tactical Combat Casualty Care. The centerpiece is a chapter on the TCCC program, which is supposed to provide medical training for all soldiers and medical personnel. The TCCC program is designed to be simple and effective for all staff to use. Every member of the army should thus be able, even with limited material resources, to keep a soldier alive even in his most demanding conditions at least for the necessary time. The aim of this thesis was to map how the members of the Czech Army are prepared to provide first aid in a dangerous environment. The second objective was to map their knowledge in providing first aid in a dangerous environment, reflecting the effectiveness and efficiency of medical training of members of the Czech Army. Qualitative methods were used to achieve the objectives. The research part consisted of non-standardized questionnaires, which served to evaluate the medical training and to verify the knowledge of the Czech Army members in providing first aid according to the TCCC principles. The second part of the research was supplemented by semi-structured interviews with non-medical medical staff of the units. The results show that medical training does not fully comply with the current concept of training of units of the Czech Army and other documents. It is also evident from the research that members of the Czech Army should be educated more on the theoretical level in relation to the provision of first aid according to the TCCC principles, as the awareness of this issue appeared to be minimal. The obtained knowledge will be used both by unit medics leading medical training and by unit commanders who organise medical training and can thus avoid the mentioned deficiencies. Furthermore, the findings can also be used by all other members of the Army of the Czech Republic who are interested in the issue in question and want to find a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of information

The diploma thesis deals with statistical comparison of the textural properties of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) ? (hardness, springiness, cohesiveness, chewiness) were kept during the experiment at store?ponds in Trebon. Carps in each pond were fed with triticale or modified form of triticale (not processed, pressed, crushed, not processed cooked at 120 °C and 100 °C and pressed at 120 °C) and one control pond with fish. After the experiment the fish were killed, and the recovery factor was esteblished. The fillets were obtained from samples of muscle precisely in a defined way, and property values texture by TPA (Texture profile analyst) was found. The results show that all four monitored mechanical properties of textures, reach the highest values of control (hardness: 4,756 kg, springiness: 0.689, cohesiveness: 0.788 and chewiness: 2,585 kg), and the lowest textural properties were observed in triticale, not processed, heat- prepared at 120 °C: hardness: 3,259 kg, springiness: 0.646 and chewiness: 1,579 kg, and cohesiveness was lowest in triticale not processed cooked at 120°C: 0.733. Only samples pressed at 120 °C and not processed triticale were statistically significanty different from the others in parameter of hardness. Triticale pressed at 120 °C were statisticanty different from not processed, pressed triticale and control in parameter of cohesiveness. Triticale samples pressed at 120 °C and not processed at 120 °C significantly were different from the others and triticale pressed from controlwere diferrent too. In springiness parameter, there was no statistically significant difference. Was used significancy level p=0.01
