Methods A quantitative, observational and retrospective study using the Portuguese National Health Service inpatient discharge database from 2015 to 2017. Surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) and TAVI procedures were selected using the International Classification of Diseases. First, we mapped the yearly age-standardised rate for each procedure using QGIS. Then, we performed χ 2 tests, independent t-tests and logistic regressions to study the factors associated with TAVI use. Results From 2015 to 2017, 8398 hospitalisations were selected, 88.5% SAVR and 11.5% TAVI. From 2015 to 2017, SAVR use increased in the Northern region and decreased in the Lisbon region, while the opposite was observed for TAVI. TAVI was performed among the most complex (p<0.001) and older patients (the mean (SD) age for SAVR was 70 (±11) years old and 81 (±7) years old for TAVI, p<0.001). The results for the logistic regressions showed that, more recent hospitalisations, being older, living in the Lisbon region and having a higher Charlson Comorbidity Index was associated with an increased likelihood of undergoing TAVI (p<0.001). Conclusions TAVI increased over the years. TAVI is more often performed in more severe patients as an alternative to SAVR with similar discharge outcomes. These results suggest the existence of geographic disparities in the availability and access to healthcare services and technologies.publishersversionpublishe

Anchored on a wider research on the shiftwork effects, this study aims to contribute to the discussion of intervention possibilities in this issue considering, in particular, the role of the organizational context. This discussion is made with reference to three studies conducted in industrial companies which assessed some of the effects that are typically associated with shiftwork: effects on health, family and social life and satisfaction with the work shift. In the three companies 859 shift workers were involved. Data were gathered from a survey (the scales used in the survey included scales published in the literature and other developed by the research team). The correlation analysis indicated a statistically significant association between the perception of organizational support and the assessed effects. This association varied between -.19 with “sleep problems” and .47 with the interface with “life outside the company”. Beyond the relevance of management practices that can be used by organizations, other possibilities of intervention are presented/discussed. In both cases, the focus remains on the support that may be provided by the organizational context by promoting the adaptation to this work schedule

Background: One of the objectives of ESSAlcoitão’s undergraduate course is that future physiotherapists, in addition to being competent professionals, become autonomous, analytical, creative citizens, who know how to solve problems. To this end, one of the pedagogical strategies used is based on an adaptation of the project management methodology, PRINCE2 (PRojects IN Controlled Environments), applied to the development of community projects. During one semester of the 2020/2021 school year, 2 projects were proposed to the students, focusing on supporting individuals in the COVID-19 context. Project methodology was presented to the students, including the various roles and responsibilities (Project Manager, Team, Customer) and subgroups were created to develop sections of the projects, supported by a group of teachers (Subject Matter Experts). Aim: Assess students’ satisfaction in using PRINCE2 methodology in the development of community projects to support individuals after the acute phase of COVID-19 and Long COVID. Methodology: To assess the impact (satisfaction) within the students, an online questionnaire with several dimensions (12 questions) was used. Results: The online questionnaire delivered a response rate of 52.8%. The data revealed a favourable opinion regarding the methodology used, namely that it helped to clarify the role of the interveners (75% agree/totally agree), and that the selected theme was relevant and important (78.6% agree/totally agree). Finally 82.1% (agree/strongly agree) considered that this activity was important for the development of knowledge and professional skills. Conclusions/Implications for physiotherapy: Based on students' responses, we consider the success of the implementation of PRINCE2 methodology to be relevant, making it feasible and advisable to use this project management methodology for the development of future community projects. In this way, future physiotherapists can proactively play a role in local and global efforts to reduce the impact of modifiable risk factors, and of emerging conditions, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.N/

AdoPt Project: adoptive families' strengths, difficulties and service needs: a portuguese follow-up study

Introduction:Together with many positive experiences, adoption brings stress and difficulties. In Portugal, about 1/15 preadoption placements is disrupted. In Europe, 1 in 25 adoptions fail. International data show that around 1/4 adoptions undergo major difficulties that threaten stability/permanence. Portuguese research on these matters is currently very limited. Aims: The goal of this poster is to present a recently funded project (AdoPt) aiming at identifying risk/protective factors of postadoption instability/permanence in variables related to adoptees, adopters, parent-child relationships, formal and informal sources of support, and developing, val- idating and sustaining an online survey system to monitor postadoption pathways and needs. Method:Using a cross-sequential design, 3 cohorts of 90 children each, adopted in 2013, 2016 and 2019, will be followed for 3 years with data collection times 12 months apart. Each cohort will include children adopted at ages 0-2, 3-5 and 6-10, ensuring a final age-span of adoptees between 2 and 20 years. Data will be collected online, using adopters and professionals as informants. At the end, data from a representative sub-sample of 90 families will be collected at in-home visits to cross-validate online data (adoptees will also participate). A user-friendly on- line monitoring and follow-up system will be set up. Families will be provided with feedback and educational resources. Annual sessions with adoption professionals will provide the opportunity to share ongoing findings and design new services. Expected Results:With ground-breaking innovations, AdoPt will respond to the need of sound knowledge/better practices for the development of urgently needed postadoption services in Portugal.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Functional and conservation value of fruits - a lab approach

[EN] Fruits are a relevant source of phenols and ascorbate, biomolecules which scavenge reactive oxygen species. For this reason, they are considered as healthy for the human being. Fruits quality depends on their levels of antioxidants and enzyme activities that ensure their conservation. The aim of this work was to plan and execute a laboratory class of Enzymology, a discipline of Biochemistry degree of University of Évora, Portugal, for determining the functional and conservation value of three different fruits types, sold in the market of Évora, Portugal. The development of this activity allowed that students of a pilot class participate in a laboratory activity which intended to compare the content of phenols, ascorbate, and polyphenol oxidase enzyme activity present in apple, peach and blueberries pulp. At Lab activity, the students successfully determined markers of functional and conservation value of selected fruits. The skills acquired by the students, in terms of obtaining fruit pulp and their composition in antioxidants, stimulated their commitment degree on the application of biochemistry in the everyday, acquiring thereby significant learning, with a high degree of satisfaction. This work was funded by National Funds through FCT - Foundation for Science and Technology under the Project UID/AGR/00115/2013.Alves-Pereira, I.; Capela-Pires, J.; Candeias, M.; Ferreira, R.
