Hagiografía y mentalidad popular en la pintura tardogótica barcelonesa (1450-1500)

En la medida que los retablos pictóricos también fueron concebidos como instrumentos de catequesis e instrucción, se tuvo siempre muy en cuenta «el ojo del espectador», es decir, la cultura y la mentalidad del público al que estaban dirigidos. Buena prueba de ello es el marcado relieve concedido a las escenas del martirio de los santos o la misma representación de ciertas tradiciones y creencias populares en programas de carácter hagiográfico. Es posible que en algún caso la integración de aspectos folklóricos no fuera ajena a la voluntad de normalizar perfiles de la cultura popular considerados poco ortodoxos por las autoridades religiosas. Sin embargo, creo que la razón principal de su recreación plástica fue la voluntad de captar la atención del fiel, de atraerlo al mensaje sagrado mediante una serie de resortes característicos de la cultura popular. En este sentido, bien podemos decir que los pintores hicieron uso de uno de los recursos más comunes en la homilética bajomedieval.In so far as pictorial retables were also conceived as instruments for cathecism and instruction, the eye of the beholder was always taken into consideration; that is to say the culture and attitudes of the public the work was aimed at. Espacio e imagen de la Justicia : lecturas en torno al retablo del Consulado de Mar de Perpiñán

Al margen de su valor estrictamente devocional y religioso, el retablo del Consulado de Mar de Perpiñán presenta una compleja composición de carácter cívico-moral. Mediante la yuxtaposición de la mayestática imagen de la Trinidad rodeada por evangelistas, profetas y patriarcas con una estampa de un activo centro portuario, el autor del programa diseñó una original alegoría de la Justicia y de las beneficiosas consecuencias derivadas de su correcta aplicación por parte de los dirigentes mercantiles. Esta exaltación del valor político de la virtud cardinal tiene sus fundamentos ideológicos en la cultura escolástica, y de manera particular en las doctrinas cívicas de uno de sus más eximios representantes en la Cataluña bajomedieval: Francesc Eiximenis. Junto a todo ello diversas circunstancias históricas nos conducen a interpretar la pintura como una solemne manifestación de orgullo y gloria de sus promotores, los cónsules de Mar, y de la institución que dirigían.In addition to its devotional and religious value, the altarpiece beloging to the Consulate of the Sea in Perpignan display a complex composition of a civil and moral kind. Through the juxtaposition between the mejestic image of the Trinity surrounded by evangelist, prophets and patriarcs and a scene portraying a busy port, the author of the theme created and original allegory of Justice and the beneficiary consequences derived by its correct application by merchant managers. This exhaltation of the political value of Justice has its ideological fondation in the scholastic culture and in particular in the civic doctrines of Francesc Eiximenis, one of its most distinguished representatives in Catalonia during the late middle ages. Combined with this diverse historic circumstances lead us to interpret the painting as a solemn expression of the pride and glory of its sponsors, the consulships of the Sea, and of the institution to wich they belonged

Visual memory of a dynasty. Pedro IV the Ceremonious and the rhetoric of images in The Crown of Aragon (1336-1387)

Durante todo su reinado Pedro IV de Aragón hizo uso de todo tipo de medios de comunicación, desde crónicas y sermones hasta imágenes, con el objetivo casi obsesivo de preservar y promover la gloriosa memoria de su linaje real. Al margen del valor intrínseco de todas y cada una de estas manifestaciones, en determinadas ocasiones se llegó incluso a diseñar espacios multimedia mediante una hábil interacción de diferentes sistemas comunicativos. Así pienso que sucedió en el Salón del Tinell del Palacio Real Mayor de Barcelona y en el panteón real del monasterio de Poblet, dos escenarios donde la contemplación de amplios programas figurativos ad maiorem gloriam de la dinastía catalanoaragonesa corrió paralela a la lectura o audición de piezas literarias concebidas con el mismo objetivo. El resultado fue la creación de unos extraordinarios espacios-espectáculo de la monarquía, unos lugares con una enorme carga retórica que contribuyeron a acentuar el sentido legitimador y simbólico de los propios monumentos.Throughout his reign Peter IV of Aragon made use of all kinds of media, from chronicles and sermons to pictures, with an almost obsessive goal of preserving and promoting the glorious memory of his royal descent. Apart from the intrinsic value of each and every one of these manifestations, it should be pointed out that on certain occasions they even design multimedia spaces by means of a smart interaction of different communication systems. I believe that this happened in the Saló Tinell Room of the Royal Palace of Barcelona and in the Royal Pantheon of Poblet Monastery, two scenes where the contemplation of comprehensive and figurative programmes ad gloriam maiorem of the Catalan- Aragonese dynasty was simultaneous at the reading or audition of literary pieces created for the same purpose. The result was the creation of extraordinary show locations of the monarchy, places charged with rhetoric that emphasized the legitimate and symbolic meaning of these monuments

Indirect test of M-S circuits using multiple specification band guarding

Testing analog and mixed-signal circuits is a costly task due to the required test time targets and high end technical resources. Indirect testing methods partially address these issues providing an efficient solution using easy to measure CUT information that correlates with circuit performances. In this work, a multiple specification band guarding technique is proposed as a method to achieve a test target of misclassified circuits. The acceptance/rejection test regions are encoded using octrees in the measurement space, where the band guarding factors precisely tune the test decision boundary according to the required test yield targets. The generated octree data structure serves to cluster the forthcoming circuits in the production testing phase by solely relying on indirect measurements. The combined use of octree based encoding and multiple specification band guarding makes the testing procedure fast, efficient and highly tunable. The proposed band guarding methodology has been applied to test a band-pass Butterworth filter under parametric variations. Promising simulation results are reported showing remarkable improvements when the multiple specification band guarding criterion is used.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft
