Wartości „mieć”, „być” wśród uczniów szkół ponadgimnazjalnych
In the world of continual social and economic changes, morality crisis, consumptionism, the contrast between “to be” and “to have” attitudes is manifesting itself. The aim of this study was to reveal what values are preferred by secondary school students. Results of the research, obtained with the Scale of “to be” and “to have” Attitudes by Bronisław Grulkowski, show that ¾ of students participating in this study identifies with the attitude on a border of those groups. It means that gaining pleasure, collecting material goods, life and financial stabilisation, conformity are as important for the respondents as friendship, solidarity with others, giving help to people in need, self-improvement, developing one’s interests or broadening one’s knowledge. Received results provided a foundation for indications for the educational practice in the realm of enrichment and development of attitudes recognising the primacy of human spiritual values.W świecie nieustannych przemian społecznych, ekonomicznych, kryzysu moralnego, konsumpcyjnego stylu życia, coraz wyraźniej uwidacznia się kontrast między postawami „być” i „mieć”.
Sposoby usprawniania angiogenezy terapeutycznej w chorobach serca
Nowoczesna eksperymentalna strategia leczenia niedokrwienia mięśnia sercowego polega na wywoływania
neowaskularyzacji przy użyciu mediatorów indukujących angiogenezę. Najczęściej
stosowanymi cytokinami angiogennymi są: naczyniowy czynnik wzrostu śródbłonka (VEGF), fibroblastyczny czynnik wzrostu (FGF), insulinopodobne czynniki wzrostu (IGF), płytkowopochodny
czynnik wzrostu (PDGF) i hepatocytarny czynnik wzrostu (HGF). Podaje się je dożylnie
bądź miejscowo do mięśnia sercowego, do osierdzia, do naczyń wieńcowych, śródprzydankowo
wzrostowe. Ostatnio dużo miejsca poświęca się zagadnieniom kardioprotekcji i angiogenezy
terapeutycznej bez użycia cytokin, za pośrednictwem przeszczepiania śródbłonkowych
komórek progenitorowych oraz wykorzystania hipoksycznego oraz niedokrwiennego prekondycjonowania

Wpływ kortykosteroidów na angiogenezę w mięśniu sercowym
The process of angiogenesis in a heart muscle is a way of providing the ischaemic myocardium with oxygen and nutritive
ingredients. This natural process called therapeutic angiogenesis has been tried in the treatment of patients with coronary
artery disease mainly. It has been seen as a chance of an effective beneficial therapy particularly in these patients for whom
pharmacological treatment is not sufficient and who are disqualified for operative methods such as the percutaneus coronary
angioplasty, or coronary bypass transplantation.
The goal of therapeutic angiogenesis is to stimulate the growth of new capillaries in a heart and, as a result, to improve the
perfusion and function of a heart muscle.
The positive impact of the angiogenesis in a heart muscle is impeded in patients using corticosteroids in treatment for other
illnesses. Corticosteroids inhibit the angiogenesis process on a cellular and tissue level. They decrease gene expression for
VEGF, iNOS, inhibit the activity of transcriptive factors for AP-1 and NFkB. Corticosteroids cause the degradation of a pericellular matrix, inhibit the migration of macrophages and inhibit the synthesis of NO and interleukin. These activities
of corticosteroids decrease the number of new vessels in a ischaemic miocardium and, consequently, worsen vascularization
and progressive hypoxia.
perfuzji i funkcji mięśnia sercowego.
syntezy tlenku azotu (iNOS, induicible nitric oxide synthase). Hamują aktywność czynników transkrypcyjnych AP-1 i NFkB.
Przyczyniają się do degradacji macierzy okołonaczyniowej, hamują migrację makrofagów oraz syntezę NO i interleukin.
Powyższe działania wpływają na zmniejszenie liczby nowo powstałych naczyń krwionośnych w niedokrwionym mięśniu
sercowym, a w konsekwencji na gorsze unaczynienie i postępujące niedotlenienie.

Dysproporcja pomiędzy częstością występowania zaburzeń lękowych i depresyjnych w populacji mieszkańców powiatu żywieckiego a korzystaniem z psychiatrycznej opieki zdrowotnej
Introduction: The aim of the article is to estimate the disproportion between the incidence of anxiety disorders and
depression in adult population of the Żywiec Poviat and the use of mental health care.
Material and methods: An anonymous survey was conducted in a randomly selected group of adults living in the
Żywiec Poviat. 1659 completed questionnaires were obtained. The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) was
used as a screening tool. The data were compared with the number of outpatient and hospitalized people in psychiatric
health care facilities in the poviat.
Results: The study released a significant disproportion between the occurrence of anxiety disordes and treatment for
this reason. In outpatient settings 1.23% of people suffering from anxiety used medical care, 0.06% were hospitalized.
A similar situation applies to the disproportion between the occurrence of depression and treatment for this reason.
Among people whose symptoms implement the criteria of depressive episode, 1.11% used outpatient treatment and
0.14% were hospitalized.
Conclusion: Prevelence of anxiety disorders and depression and related to this health needs in examinated population
significantly exceeds the real use of psychiatric healthcare. Constant underestimation of health needs in the field of
psychiatry can be a result and one of the causes of this phenomenon. For better planning of activities in the field of
health policy, it is necessary to perform epidemiological studies that reveal scale of the problem.Wstęp: Celem artykułu jest ocena dysproporcji pomiędzy częstością występowania zaburzeń lękowych i depresyjnychu dorosłych mieszkańców powiatu żywieckiego a korzystaniem z psychiatrycznej opieki zdrowotnej.
Materiał i metody: Przeprowadzono anonimowe badanie ankietowe w losowo wybranej grupie dorosłych osób zamieszkujących powiat żywiecki.
Association of jasmonic acid priming with multiple defense mechanisms in wheat plants under high salt stress
Salinity is a global conundrum that negatively affects various biometrics of agricultural crops. Jasmonic acid (JA) is a phytohormone that reinforces multilayered defense strategies against abiotic stress, including salinity. This study investigated the effect of JA (60 μM) on two wheat cultivars, namely ZM9 and YM25, exposed to NaCl (14.50 dSm−1) during two consecutive growing seasons. Morphologically, plants primed with JA enhanced the vegetative growth and yield components. The improvement of growth by JA priming is associated with increased photosynthetic pigments, stomatal conductance, intercellular CO2, maximal photosystem II efficiency, and transpiration rate of the stressed plants. Furthermore, wheat cultivars primed with JA showed a reduction in the swelling of the chloroplast, recovery of the disintegrated thylakoids grana, and increased plastoglobuli numbers compared to saline-treated plants. JA prevented dehydration of leaves by increasing relative water content and water use efficiency via reducing water and osmotic potential using proline as an osmoticum. There was a reduction in sodium (Na+) and increased potassium (K+) contents, indicating a significant role of JA priming in ionic homeostasis, which was associated with induction of the transporters, viz., SOS1, NHX2, and HVP1. Exogenously applied JA mitigated the inhibitory effect of salt stress in plants by increasing the endogenous levels of cytokinins and indole acetic acid, and reducing the abscisic acid (ABA) contents. In addition, the oxidative stress caused by increasing hydrogen peroxide in salt-stressed plants was restrained by JA, which was associated with increased α-tocopherol, phenolics, and flavonoids levels and triggered the activities of superoxide dismutase and ascorbate peroxidase activity. This increase in phenolics and flavonoids could be explained by the induction of phenylalanine ammonia-lyase activity. The results suggest that JA plays a key role at the morphological, biochemical, and genetic levels of stressed and non-stressed wheat plants which is reflected in yield attributes. Hierarchical cluster analysis and principal component analyses showed that salt sensitivity was associated with the increments of Na+, hydrogen peroxide, and ABA contents. The regulatory role of JA under salinity stress was interlinked with increased JA level which consequentially improved ion transporting, osmoregulation, and antioxidant defense
Effects of aluminium oxide nanoparticles on bacterial growth
Production and wide application of nanomaterials have led to nanotechnology development but their release to environment and the induction of toxic reactions, affects the natural microbial communities. Therefore, studies on the impact of nanoparticles on microorganisms and environment are required and needed. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of aluminium oxide nanoparticles on the growth of Pseudomonas putida. To compare the harmfulness of different forms of aluminium oxide, the ecotoxicity of its macro-forms was also evaluated in the study. Research showed that the exposure to nanoparticles can negatively influence microorganisms. The EC50-16h determined in this study was 0.5 mg/l, and NOEC equaled 0.19 mg/l. Nano-Al2O3 proved to be more toxic to P. putida than aluminium oxide. This indicates that the nano-form of a given substance demonstrates different properties and may constitute a far greater danger for the environment than the same substance in the large form. According to EU and US EPA criteria, nano-Al2O3 proved to be very toxic and highly toxic, respectively. Changes in bacterial communities caused by nanoparticles may affect the normal biological, chemical and nutrient cycle in the ecosystem and the effect triggered by nanomaterials in relation to other organisms is unpredictable
Evidence of phytotoxicity and genotoxicity in Hordeum vulgare L. exposed to CeO2 and TiO2 nanoparticles.
Engineered nanoscale materials (ENMs) are considered emerging contaminants since they are perceived as a potential threat to the environment and the human health. The reactions of living organisms when exposed to metal nanoparticles (NPs) or NPs of different size are not well known. Very few studies on NPs–plant interactions have been published, so far. For this reason there is also great concern regarding the potential NPs impact to food safety. Early genotoxic and phytotoxic effects of cerium oxide NPs (nCeO(2)) and titanium dioxide NPs (nTiO(2)) were investigated in seedlings of Hordeum vulgare L. Caryopses were exposed to an aqueous dispersion of nCeO(2) and nTiO(2) at, respectively 0, 500, 1000, and 2000 mg l(-1) for 7 days. Genotoxicity was studied by Randomly Amplified Polymorphism DNA (RAPDs) and mitotic index on root tip cells. Differences between treated and control plants were observed in RAPD banding patterns as well as at the chromosomal level with a reduction of cell divisions. At cellular level we monitored the oxidative stress of treated plants in terms of reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and ATP content. Again nCeO(2) influenced clearly these two physiological parameters, while nTiO(2) were ineffective. In particular, the dose 500 mg l(-1) showed the highest increase regarding both ROS generation and ATP content; the phenomenon were detectable, at different extent, both at root and shoot level. Total Ce and Ti concentration in seedlings was detected by ICP-OES. TEM EDSX microanalysis demonstrated the presence of aggregates of nCeO(2) and nTiO(2) within root cells of barley. nCeO(2) induced modifications in the chromatin aggregation mode in the nuclei of both root and shoot cells
