The value of the native potato varieties grown in Argentinean northwest lies both in their fundamental role as a source of food for the population and in their potential for the development of new products. The aim of this work was to study the changes produced by two common cooking processes (boiling and frying) on the nutritional, textural and functional characteristics of five Andean potatoes varieties. The cooking process (boiling) does not significantly affect the composition of potatoes, but there are losses of vitamin C; a greater loss was observed when they were boiled shelled. In frying potatoes vitamin C is completely destroyed. Resistant starch values between 0.90 and 4.58 g/100g of potato were found for raw Andean varieties; they decreased during the cooking process (boiled) (0.15 to 0.54 g/100g of potato) and increased again to be stored for 48 h at 4°C (0.73 - 1.88 g/100g of potato). The frying process produced an increment in energy value between 92% and 148% according to variety. Regarding to the fracture strength and hardness, no significant differences were observed between the Andean varieties and the control (Spunta) at the initial or final stages, but there were differences during the intermediate stages.Fil: Jimenez, María Eugenia. Launched in January 2009, ANCIEN is a research project that runs for a 44-month period and involves 20 partners from EU member states. The project principally concerns the future of long-term care (LTC) for the elderly in Europe and addresses two questions in particular: 1) How will need, demand, supply and use of LTC develop? 2) How do different systems of LTC perform? This case study on Spain is part of the first stage in the project aimed at collecting the basic data and necessary information to portray long-term care in each country of the EU. It will be followed by analysis and projections of future scenarios on long-term care needs, use, quality assurance and system performance. State-of-the-art demographic, epidemiologic and econometric modelling will be used to interpret and project needs, supply and use of long-term care over future time periods for different LTC systems

This paper presents a Systematic Literature Review(SLR) related to recommender system for medical treatment, aswell as analyze main elements that may provide flexible, accurate, and comprehensive recommendations. To do so, a SLR researchmethodology obey. As a result, 12 intelligent recommendersystems related to prescribing medication were classed dependingto specific criteria. We assessed and analyze these medicinerecommender systems and enumerate the challenges. After studyingselected papers, our study concentrated on two researchquestions concerning the availability of medicine recommendersystems for physicians and the features these systems should have.Further research is encouraged in order to build an intelligentrecommender system based on the features analyzed in this work

Studying upper-limb kinematics using inertial sensors

AIM: The aim of this study was to analyze scapulohumeral rhythm through nine physical properties that correspond to angular mobility, angular velocity, and acceleration in the three axes of space, obtained by inertial sensors. METHODS: This cross-sectional study recruited healthy young adult subjects. Descriptive and anthropometric independent variables related to age, gender, weight, size, and BMI were included. Nine physical properties were included corresponding to three dependent variables for each of three special axes: mobility angle (degrees), angular speed (degrees/second), and lineal acceleration (meters/seconds2), which were obtained thought the inertial measurement sensors with four inertial sensors (InertiaCube3™ Intersense Inc., Billerica, Massachusetts). Inertial sensors were placed in the right half of the body of each subject located in the middle third of the humerus slightly posterior, in the middle third of the upper spine of the scapula, in the flat part of the sternum, and the distal surface of the ulna and radius. RESULTS: Descriptive graphics of analytical tasks performed were obtained (figure 1). The main difference in mobility between the scapula and humerus was found in pitch axis for abduction ( = 107.6°, SD = 9.3°) and flexion ( = 113.1°, SD = 9.3°). CONCLUSION: This study shows how much each body segment contributes to upper-limb motion, and allows us to obtain grades of mobility provided by the scapula. Also, this study identified movement patterns, and supports inertial sensors as a useful device to analyze upper-limb kinematics. However, further studies with subjects with shoulder pathology should be carried out.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tech

Multi-village water systems sustainability: the case of Chomba system in Mueda Plateau

    Get PDF
Sustainability is one of the key challenges of rural water supply. In Sub-Saharan Africa, only two out of three water points in the continent’s rural areas are functional at any given time. Among these, the multi-village supplies offer significant opportunities for increasing the sustainability of the services, facing the challenges of coverage, management and equity. This paper studies the case of the Mueda Plateau, in Cabo Delgado, northern province of Mozambique. Six systems were reviewed, and among these one (Chomba) outstands at the only given a minimum level of service. We describe the operational status of the service, and we outline the distinctive points (technical and institutional) that made it work substantially better than others in such context. Conclusion gives the challenges ahead for Chomba system and some recommendations to improve sustainability of multi-village water services

Living Space Needs of Small Housing in the Post-Pandemic Era: Malaga as a case study

    Get PDF
The COVID-19 lockdown period has highlighted the ability of housing to accommodate a comprehensive programme typical of the city and its public space. Housing units of under 60 m2 and in blocks of flats are the more vulnerable, as they have a higher percentage of non-community open spaces. That problem was analysed using a methodology based on psychological, urban planning and architectural indicators applied to two coastal cities in the Mediterranean area of southern Spain. The results highlight three aspects in this type of dwelling: the need to consider the orientation of the housing to improve the quality of indoor and outdoor space; the need in public housing policies for a greater number of rooms to facilitate remote working; and finally, the importance of functional terraces overlooking green areas

Orthodontic treatment in patients with reduced periodontal insertion

    Get PDF
The aim of this study was to conduct a literature review to investigate orthodontic treatment in periodontal patients. Periodontal disease causes loss of attachment that results in pathological dental migration Periodontal disease can affect young persons and adults, with a higher incidence in adults, so that the number of adults seeking orthodontic treatment has increased significantly. The periodontal disease must be controlled before the orthodontic treatment begins, and during the treatment it is important to keep the patient motivated as regards control of oral hygiene, with periodical reviews by the periodontist. With regard to assembly of the fixed appliance, special care is required not to place the accessories close to the gingival margin, in addition to using light forces porportional to the amount of periodontal attachment, and kept within the biological limits of movement. Correction of the poorly positioned teeth and controlled orthodontic movement can favor remodeling of the alveolar process in all directions. After orthodontic treatment it is important plan containment individually. Integrated orthodontic-periodontal teamwork is essential for reestablishing a healthy periodontium and satisfactory occlusion

Organización comunitaria y turismo en dos comunidades del estado de Hidalgo, México

    Get PDF
