    Get PDF
Premixed gas explosion pipe system was established to study the change rule of explosion pressure and pressure rise rate of 10% methane/ air premixed gas under four condition that no material was filled, used material was filled, new materials was filled and cleaned materials was filled in explosive pipe. The results show that compared with the used material and cleaned material, the average maximum explosion pressure was reduced by 21.62% and the average pressure rise rate decreased by 84.80%. The results show that the suppression performance of used aluminum alloy explosion-proof materials improved greatly after the used materials is cleaned

Linear active disturbance rejection control of waste heat recovery systems with organic Rankine cycles

    Get PDF
In this paper, a linear active disturbance rejection controller is proposed for a waste heat recovery system using an organic Rankine cycle process, whose model is obtained by applying the system identification technique. The disturbances imposed on the waste heat recovery system are estimated through an extended linear state observer and then compensated by a linear feedback control strategy. The proposed control strategy is applied to a 100 kW waste heat recovery system to handle the power demand variations of grid and process disturbances. The effectiveness of this controller is verified via a simulation study, and the results demonstrate that the proposed strategy can provide satisfactory tracking performance and disturbance rejection

Results of Gravity Observations Using a Superconducting Gravimeter at the Tibetan Plateau

The tidal and nontidal gravity change characteristics in the Tibetan Plateau region were investigated using the continuous gravity measurements recorded with a superconducting gravimeter (SG) installed in Lhasa from December 8, 2009 to September 30, 2011. The results indicated that the precision of the tidal gravity observations with the SG in Lhasa was very high. The standard deviation of the harmonic analysis for the gravity tides was 0.498 nm s-2, and the uncertainties of amplitude factors in the four main tidal waves (i.e., O1, K1, M2 and S2) were better than 0.002%. In addition, the diurnal gravity tide observations clearly revealed a pattern of nearly diurnal resonance. As a result, it is affirmed that the station should act as a local tidal gravity reference in the Tibetan Plateau and its adjacent regions. The load effects of oceanic tides are so weak that the resulting perturbation in the gravimetric factors is less than 0.6%. However, the load effects of the local atmosphere on either the tidal or the nontidal gravity observations are significant, although no seasonal variations have been found. After removing the atmospheric effects, the standard deviation of the harmonic analysis for the gravity tides decreased obviously from 4.160 to 0.498 nm s-2. Having removed the load effects of oceanic tides and local atmosphere, it is found that the tidal gravity observations are significantly different from those expected theoretically, which may be related to active tectonic movement and extremely thick crust in the Tibetan Plateau region. In addition, the Earth¡¦s free oscillations excited by 2011 Tohoku-Oki Mw 9.0 Earthquake were successfully detected

A combination of phospholipids and long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids supports neurodevelopmental outcomes in infants: a randomized, double-blind, controlled clinical trial

Phospholipids (PLs) and long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFAs) are naturally present in breast milk and play important roles in promoting the growth of the infant. Several studies have investigated the effects of the combination of PLs and LCPUFAs on neurodevelopment. However, data on the effectiveness of infant formula containing both PLs and LCPUFAs on the neurodevelopment of infants is still scarce. This randomized, double-blind, controlled clinical study was designed to evaluate the effect of an infant formula enriched with PLs and LCPUFAs on growth parameters and neurodevelopmental outcomes in term infants up to 365 days of age. Infants were enrolled within 30 days of birth who were then randomly assigned to either a control group (n = 150) or an investigational group (n = 150). Both groups consist of cow’s milk-based formula which were generally identical in terms of composition, except that the investigational formula was additionally supplemented with PLs and LCPUFAs. The infants were followed for the first year of life. Breastfed infants were the reference (n = 150). Bayley Scales of Infant Development [3rd edition (Bayley-III)], Carey Toddler Temperament Scales (TTS), MacArthur-Bates Communicative Development Inventories (CDI), Single Object Attention and Free Play Tasks were used to evaluate neurodevelopmental outcomes of infant at 365 days of age. In addition, Ages and Stages Questionnaires (ASQ) were also conducted at 120, 180, and 275 days of age. Compared to breastfeeding, both infant formulas were well-tolerated and provided adequate growth, with no adverse events being reported throughout the study. Infants of the investigational group showed higher mean scores in Bayley-III cognitive performance (104.3 vs. 99.0, p < 0.05), language (106.9 vs. 104.5, p < 0.05), and motor skills (109.2 vs. 103.9, p < 0.05) compared the control group. Similar results were being reported for other developmental scales including TTS and ASQ. Notably, the test scores of infants fed the investigational formula were similar to those who were breastfed. Our results indicate that PL and LCPUFA supplementation may be beneficial for neurodevelopment of infants throughout the first year of life. Further studies are needed to investigation long-term effects PL and LCPUFA on neurodevelopment in early life

A product analysis-based study on the mechanism of inflammable gas explosion suppression

To study the mechanism of the suppressing effect of Expanded Aluminium (EA) on the premixed gas explosion, premixed methane-air and propane-air gases were undergone explosion reaction in the presence of EA in a self designed closed pipeline with the overpressures and the compositions, rates and sensitivities of products analyzed. The results showed that the 9.5% methane-air and 5% propane-air explosions produced peak pressures decreased by 79.3% and 65.6%, and residual methane and propane contents increased by 270% and 560% respectively than without EA. In addition, the results revealed that the explosions of propane in the presence of EA produced less methane and carbon oxides contents, but more ethylene and propylene contents. The simulation showed that center dot H, center dot O, and center dot OH are the key factors affecting the rate of products. The product compositions, together with other parameters, suggested that EA decreased temperature, inhibited chain initiation and propagation reaction, but facilitated chain termination reaction by advancing and accelerating the gas phase and wall destruction reaction of radicals, especially collisions and concentration of key free radicals. This new research method based on the analysis of explosion products can be used for in-depth research into gas explosion features and shed light on the suppressing mechanism of EA in flammable gas explosion.Web of Science6

ATAD2 in cancer: a pharmacologically challenging but tractable target

    No full text
Introduction: ATAD2 protein is an emerging oncogene that has strongly been linked to the etiology of multiple advanced human cancers. Therapeutically, despite the fact that genetic suppression/knockdown studies have validated it as a compelling drug target for future therapeutic development, recent druggability assessment data suggest that direct targeting of ATAD2's bromodomain (BRD) may be a very challenging task. ATAD2's BRD has been predicted as a 'difficult to drug' or 'least druggable' target due to the concern that its binding pocket, and the areas around it, seem to be unfeasible for ligand binding. Areas covered: In this review, after shedding light on the multifaceted roles of ATAD2 in normal physiology as well as in cancer-etiology, we discuss technical challenges rendered by ATAD2's BRD active site and the recent drug discovery efforts to find small molecule inhibitors against it. Expert opinion: The identification of a novel low-nanomolar semi-permeable chemical probe against ATAD2's BRD by recent drug discovery campaign has demonstrated it to be a pharmacologically tractable target. Nevertheless, the development of high quality bioavailable inhibitors against ATAD2 is still a pending task. Moreover, ATAD2 may also potentially be utilized as a promising target for future development of RNAi-based therapy to treat cancers
