The Allocation of Net Official Development Assistance: The Role of Corruption and Influence on Standard of Living

This paper utilizes data from The World Bank Group’s Foreign Aid Effectiveness indicators to analyze the determinants of official development assistance aid to countries that are considered more or less corrupt. I utilize an OLS population regression function, with fixed effects, time series models, and an instrumental variable, as determined by the existing literature and my own determinations. My results indicate that the population’s accessibility to improved sanitation facilities and school enrollment of children in primary and secondary schools are statistically significant indicators of net official development assistance allocation to countries, regardless of their perceived corruption rating. These findings suggest that in order to properly allocate official development assistance aid, The World Bank Group should consider the indicators of accessibility to improved sanitation facilities and school enrollment in future policymaking decisions and allocations of aid

The effect of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease on swallowing

This work is composed of a literature review, research review, and self-reflective essay. The anatomy and physiology of normal swallowing and respiration are reviewed. Additionally, the effect of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) on these processes is discussed. The research goal was to determine how lung volume changes adapt the physiology of swallowing in individuals with COPD. The research project was designed and conducted by Teresa Drulia, M.S., CCC-SLP. COPD participants (n=9, mean age=72, 6 male) were compared to older healthy individuals (n=10, mean age= 59, 3 male). Participants completed swallows of 20cc of water at four lung volume conditions: non-cued, resting expiratory level, tidal volume, and total lung capacity while respiration and pharyngeal pressures were recorded. The results indicated that COPD participants swallow at a lower lung volume than older healthy individuals. A significant inverse relationship was found between estimated lung volume at the time of the swallow and pharyngeal duration in individuals with COPD that was not present in the older healthy. Pharyngeal swallow duration was longer in COPD, although not statistically significant, and normalized to approximate that of healthy individuals only when they inspired to a larger lung volume. COPD participants followed a swallow with inspiration significantly less at higher lung volumes. Se investigó acerca de los materiales químicamente. Se analizó la composición química tanto del CP como el de la Diatomea y a partir de esto se realizó un diseño de la composición química de la diatomea similar a la del CP. In the summer of 2015, a clinical nurse from Doctors Hospital attended the NAON Congress. Among the programs presented was a poster on same day discharge of total joint replacements. The clinical nurse then returned to Doctors Hospital and presented this idea to her charge nurse and the orthopedic nurse practitioner. The charge nurse then established an interdisciplinary team that involved clinical nurses from the orthopedic floor, the orthopedic nurse practitioner, OR nurses, an orthopedic surgeon, physical therapy, occupational therapy, dietary, and social work to develop a protocol for same day discharge of total hip and total knee replacements. This became a nurse lead quality improvement initiative within the hospital. The program was then piloted starting in January 2016 and has been successful. Thus far, ten patients have gone through the program and have had no complications, and have reported increased satisfaction with the surgery and recovery process. Since the inception of the program, accelerated discharge after joint replacement has influenced the general orthopedic population in the hospital and there have been significant decreases in overall length of stay and decreases in complications post operatively

Estrategias para el Desarrollo del Mercado de Valores del Ecuador: Una Revisión Sistemática

Objetivo: El objetivo de este estudio es brindar diferentes estrategias económicas y financieras para que más empresas puedan ampliar sus horizontes de financiamiento y participar en el mercado de valores.   Marco teórica: La generación de emprendimientos comerciales ha adquirido una importancia creciente en el mercado empresarial ecuatoriano a través de las Pequeñas y Medianas Empresas (PyMes), es por ello que, el objetivo de esta investigación es realizar un recorrido de la teoria del financiamiento.   Diseño/Metodología/Enfoque Este paper realiza un estudio cuantitativo a través de una revisión sistemática durante el período período 2013-1016. La información sobre los mercados de capitales en los que se negocian valores (renta fija y fondos variables) ha sido tomada de la Bolsa de Valores de Quito y Guayaquil, Superintendencia de Compañías, así como revistas indexadas, en la base de datos Scopus y Scielo.   Hallazgos: a) Se resalta el papel de las pequeñas y medianas empresas en el sector económico del país, b) Su participación en el mercado de valores, c) Las estrategias empresariales aplicadas por el segmento que cotiza en el mercado de valores tales como: emisión y oferta pública de acciones, emisión y oferta pública de bonos y títulos de crédito, d) Se plantean estrategias en el segmento de mercado aún subdesarrollado.   Implicaciones practices y Sociales: El esudio propone estrategias de financiamiento poco exploradas por parte de las PyMes como emisión y oferta pública de acciones, emisión y oferta pública de obligaciones y titularización.   Originalidad/Valor: Los autores proponen implicaciones políticas como: a) que las instituciones educativas de nivel superior, como universidades y escuelas politécnicas del país, implementen en su programación académica, cursos sobre la administración y el financiamiento de las pymes a través de los mercados bursátiles, b) impulsar un cambio en la gestión de los observatorios de pymes en las diferentes universidades, ser gestores de un proceso de cambio cultural en el financiamiento de las Pymes

PERCEPTIONS OF SELF-DISCLOSURE IMPACTING THE SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIP AND RECOGNIZING COUNTERTRANSFERENCE

Clinical supervision is an essential component in a social work student’s education and development in the field. Social work students should feel comfortable with their clinical supervisors in order to appropriately self-disclose during supervision and gain the ability to recognize countertransference when working with clients. The significance of this is that students should be aware of their feelings and learn how to process these reactions during supervision. A mixed methods approach was utilized, surveying and interviewing students and clinical supervisors affiliated with California State University, San Bernardino. A Pearson correlation coefficient was conducted to determine the relationship between the strength of the supervisory relationship and the ability of social work students to recognize countertransference. The findings of this study suggested that there are significant relationships between the supervisory relationship and perceptions of self-disclosure and countertransference. Based on the qualitative analyses, eight central themes emerged regarding supervision practices and the relationships between students and supervisors. The implications of this study should impact how clinical supervisors foster the development of strong relationships with student interns. This should allow students to gain skills to succeed and provide better services to clients

Women in the documentary industry: Continuing inequality in the streaming age

Assessing women’s role in the audiovisual industry provides us with negative data regarding the number of women in the industry, which are also confirmed when factors such as their prominence or leadership in these audiovisual projects are considered. A quantitative and qualitative analysis was thus undertaken based on the need to examine this problem in depth to determine what is happening in the documentary or nonfiction genre, which has exhibited significant growth thanks to the demand for content from subscription video-on-demand (SVoD) streaming platforms. This research analyzes data on the number, prominence, and leadership of women through a review of the 35 Spanish productions in this genre that were produced and/or distributed exclusively on the three leading platforms in Spain between 2016 and 2021. Accordingly, the 2,099 jobs created by these productions have been evaluated, providing data on the occupations and level of responsibility that women had. The research findings confirm the overall data. In addition, they allow us to determine why, although the documentary genre has been associated with greater opportunities for women, this has not held true within the streaming market, where this genre has achieved a greater impact. This underrepresentation of women is especially prominent in the area of leadership

Acompañamiento a los procesos de gestión ambiental de la Empresa Social del Estado - ESE hospital Santa Mónica Dosquebradas

El presente trabajo se realiza en base a la necesidad de la ESE Hospital Santa Mónica de implementar estrategias que permitan dar cumplimiento a la normatividad ambiental vigente. En este, se encuentran el desarrollo de las actividades correspondientes al acompañamiento a los procesos de gestión ambiental de la ESE Hospital Santa Mónica. Los procesos abordados son: generación de residuos sólidos, generación de residuos líquidos y cumplimiento de la normatividad ambiental vigente. La gestión a estos procesos está reglamentada por normas especificas como los decretos 4741 de 2005, 2676 del 2000 y 1594 de 1984, las dos primeras relacionadas con la gestión de los residuos sólidos y la ultima con relación a los vertimientos. Cada uno de los anteriores decretos establece acciones para su cumplimiento, como lo son la formulación del plan de gestión integral de residuos hospitalarios, formulación del plan de gestión integral de residuos peligrosos, y el trámite del permiso para vertimientos
