How did the Sovereign debt crisis affect the Euro financial integration? A fractional cointegration approach.

    Get PDF
This paper examines financial integration among stock markets in the Eurozone using the prices from each stock index. Monthly time series are constructed for four major stock indices for the period between 1998 and 2016. A fractional cointegrated vector autoregressive model is estimated at an international level. Our results show that there is a perfect and complete Euro financial integration. Considering the possible existence of structural breaks, this paper also examines the fractional cointegration within each regime, showing that Euro financial integration is very robust. However, in the financial and sovereign debt crisis regime, IBEX 35 appears to be the weak link in Euro financial integration, unless Euro financial integration recovers when this period ends

This paper offers some critical remarks to the new law passed in the Spanish Autonomous Community of Galicia for the regulation of the family patrimony. As posi- tiv aspects of the law, the author includes the regulation of the reserved portion in favor of the descendants, which is restricted to the 25% of the full inheritance, as well as the widow usufruct and other hereditary agreements. Nevertheless, some aspects of the law should be openly underlined as negative, in the author’s opinion, such as the mention of some old socioeconomic institutions like the “improvement of farming or having the land” or the “lugar acasarado”, instead of other up-to-date expressions as, for instance, agricultural, industrial, manufacturing of trade explotation, which are more consistent with the present vocabulary. The author takes also into account some errors in the legal terminology, such as naming “owners without usufruct” to those always called “remain- dermen”

Energy consumption in the US reconsidered. Evidence across sources and economic sectors

    Get PDF
This study analyzes the impact of GDP shocks in USA on primary energy consumption and the reverse impact in a comprehensive and novel framework, distinguishing by economic sectors (commercial, industrial, residential and transportation) and energy source, i.e., total fossil (coal, natural gas and petroleum), nuclear, and renewable (hydroelectric, geothermal and biomass) for the period 1973:1 to 2015:2. To this end, we apply Granger causality analysis through the Hatemi-J [1] and Toda and Yamamoto [2] approaches from a time series perspective to evaluate the existence of asymmetries on this bidirectional relationship. The empirical results suggest that the impact of GDP on primary energy consumption is heterogeneous and energy source-specific, and an asymmetric behavior appears among cycles. Moreover, it seems clear that the US economy is highly dependent on petroleum energy consumption. The renewable energy sources do not seem to show any relationshipsources seem to show no relationship with economic growth, and finally, our results suggest that energy consumption in the industrial sector is key to economic growth and is also very sensitive to negative economic shocks

Hybrid databases are a mixed development which allows the structured and non-structured data combination. The project shows an approach of this kind for a digital information service by means of the integration of different labelled metadata schemes in a hybrid database

Potnia: una herramienta para directorios temáticos basada en Dublin Core y Topic Maps.

It shows the development of a data processing tool, called Potnia, inclusive of the standard proposed by the DCMI (Dublin Core Metadata Initiative) and the topic maps paradigm registered to ISO 13250:2003. The proposal is divided into six sections: rationale and objectives, scenario building methodology, integration of both markup languages using RDF (Resource Description Framework); improvements over a previous version, and conclusions

Constructing Web subject gateways using Dublin Core, RDF and Topic Maps

Specialised subject gateways have become an essential tool for locating and accessing digital information resources, with the added value of organisation and previous evaluation catering for the needs of the varying communities using these. Within the framework of a research project on the subject, a software tool has been developed that enables subject gateways to be developed and managed. General guidelines for the work were established which set out the main principles for the technical aspects of the application, on one hand, and on aspects of the treatment and management of information, on the other. All this has been integrated into a prototype model for developing software tools. The needs analysis established the conditions to be fulfilled by the application. A detailed study of the available options for the treatment of information on metadata proved that the best option was to use the Dublin Core, and that the metadata set should be included, in turn, in RDF tags, or in tags based on XML
