Geochemical Assessment of the Injection of CO2 into Rousse Depleted Gas Reservoir. Part I: Initial Mineralogical and Geochemical Conditions in the Mano Reservoir

    Get PDF
AbstractGeochemical modeling of the CO2 injection into the Rousse depleted gas reservoir (Lacq CO2 injection pilot, France) requires an accurate knowledge of initial mineralogical and geochemical conditions in the formation. Therefore, the primary objective of this work was to provide a detailed mineralogical and chemical composition of the Rousse reservoir (Mano dolomite), and accurate relative mineral proportions. This was achieved by use of a combination of techniques including in-house developed methodology for bulk rock quantitative mineralogy and complementary approaches such as optical microscopy, SEM-Quantax (chemical mapping) and Electron Miroprobe Analysis (mineral chemical composition).Particular attention was paid the minute amounts of chlorite occurring in the reservoir, in order to obtain its exact chemical composition and textural habitus. The chlorite revealed to be Mg-rich and of a sudoite-like nature. As a consequence the initial geochemical model, which assumed the chlorite to be Fe-rich was corrected, so as to ensure more accurate reactive geochemical modeling.A refined quantitative mineralogy and chemical composition of the Rousse reservoir (Mano dolomite), fulfilling thermodynamic equilibrium at initial conditions (150°C, 480bar), is provided

A Grey-box Approach for the Prognostic and Health Management of Lithium-Ion Batteries

    Get PDF
The Lithium-Ion Batteries (LIB) industry is rapidly growing and is expected to continue expanding exponentially in the next decade. LIBs are already widely used in everyday life, and their demand is expected to increase further, particularly in the automotive sector. The European Union has introduced a new law to ban Internal Combustion Engines from 2035, pushing for the adoption of electric vehicles and increasing the need for more efficient and reliable energy storage solutions such as LIBs. As a result, the establishment of Gigafactories in Europe and the United States is accelerating to meet the growing demand and partially reduce dependencies on China, which is currently the main producer of LIBs. To fully realize the potential of LIBs and ensure their safe and sustainable use, it is crucial to optimize their useful life and develop reliable and robust methodologies for estimating their state of health and predicting their remaining useful life. This requires a comprehensive understanding of LIB behavior and the development of effective prognostic and health management approaches that can accurately predict battery degradation, plan for maintenance and replacements, and improve battery performance and lifespan. This work, funded by the GREYDIENT project, a European consortium aiming to advance the state of the art in the grey-box approach, combines physical modeling (white box) and machine learning (black box) techniques to demonstrate the grey-box effectiveness in the Prognostic and Health Management. The grey-box approach here proposed consist in a combination of a physical battery model whose degradation parameters are estimated online at every cycle by a Multi-Layer Perceptron Particle Filter (MLP-PF). An electrochemical degradation model of a Lithium-Ion battery cell has been derived by use of Modelica. The model simulates the output voltage of the cell, while the degradation over time is simulate through the variation of 3 parameters: qMax (maximum number of Lithium-Ions available), R0 (Internal Resistance) and D (Diffusion Coefficient). To validate the model we resorted to the well-known NASA Battery Dataset, which has also been used to infer the optimal values of the three hidden degradation parameters at every cycle, to obtain their Run-to-Failure history. Then, the physical model is combined the MLP-PF: a MLP. Artificial Neural Network is firstly trained on the Run-to-Failure degradation processes of the model parameters, allowing the propagation of the parameters in the future and the corresponding estimation of the battery Remaining Use ful Life (RUL). The MLP is then updated online by a Particle Filter every time a new measurement is available from the Battery Management System (BMS), providing flexibility to this method, needed for the electrochemical nature of the batteries, and allowing the propagation of uncertainties

Laboratory Surveillance of Rabies in Humans, Domestic Animals, and Bats in Madagascar from 2005 to 2010

    Get PDF
Background. Rabies virus (RABV) has circulated in Madagascar at least since the 19th century. Objectives. To assess the circulation of lyssavirus in the island from 2005 to 2010. Materials and Methods. Animal (including bats) and human samples were tested for RABV and other lyssavirus using antigen, ribonucleic acid (RNA), and antibodies detection and virus isolation. Results. Half of the 437 domestic or tame wild terrestrial mammal brains tested were found RABV antigen positive, including 54% of the 341 dogs tested. This percentage ranged from 26% to 75% across the period. Nine of the 10 suspected human cases tested were laboratory confirmed. RABV circulation was confirmed in 34 of the 38 districts sampled. No lyssavirus RNA was detected in 1983 bats specimens. Nevertheless, antibodies against Lagos bat virus were detected in the sera of 12 among 50 Eidolon dupreanum specimens sampled. Conclusion. More than a century after the introduction of the vaccine, rabies still remains endemic in Madagascar

Cut elimination in multifocused linear logic

    Get PDF
We study cut elimination for a multifocused variant of full linear logic in the sequent calculus. The multifocused normal form of proofs yields problems that do not appear in a standard focused system, related to the constraints in grouping rule instances in focusing phases. We show that cut elimination can be performed in a sensible way even though the proof requires some specific lemmas to deal with multifocusing phases, and discuss the difficulties arising with cut elimination when considering normal forms of proofs in linear logic.Comment: In Proceedings LINEARITY 2014, arXiv:1502.0441

Current results of the PERSEE testbench: the cophasing control and the polychromatic null rate

Stabilizing a nulling interferometer at a nanometric level is the key issue to obtain deep null depths. The PERSEE breadboard has been designed to study and optimize the operation of a cophased nulling bench in the most realistic disturbing environment of a space mission. This presentation focuses on the current results of the PERSEE bench. In terms of metrology, we cophased at 0.33 nm rms for the piston and 80 mas rms for the tip/tilt (0.14% of the Airy disk). A Linear Quadratic Gaussian (LQG) control coupled with an unsupervised vibration identification allows us to maintain that level of correction, even with characteristic vibrations of nulling interferometry space missions. These performances, with an accurate design and alignment of the bench, currently lead to a polychromatic unpolarised null depth of 8.9E-6 stabilized at 3E-7 on the [1.65-2.45] \mum spectral band (37% bandwidth).Comment: 17 pages, 10 figures, proceedings of the Optics+Photonics SPIE conference, San Diego, 201

Adaptation of the base-paired double-helix molecular architecture to extreme pressure

    Get PDF
The behaviour of the d(GGTATACC) oligonucleotide has been investigated by X-ray crystallography at 295 K in the range from ambient pressure to 2 GPa (∼20 000 atm). Four 3D-structures of the A-DNA form (at ambient pressure, 0.55, 1.09 and 1.39 GPa) were refined at 1.60 or 1.65 Å resolution. In addition to the diffraction pattern of the A-form, the broad meridional streaks previously explained by occluded B-DNA octamers within the channels of the crystalline A-form matrix were observed up to at least 2 GPa. This work highlights an important property of nucleic acids, their capability to withstand very high pressures, while keeping in such conditions a nearly invariant geometry of base pairs that store and carry genetic information. The double-helix base-paired architecture behaves as a molecular spring, which makes it especially adapted to very harsh conditions. These features may have contributed to the emergence of a RNA World at prebiotic stage
