Partnerships between developing country governments and the private sector are increasingly being seen as a means of improving water service provision and delivery to rapidly growing urban populations. So far, formal engagement with the private sector has been mainly through international water service companies. The indigenous private sector has generally been involved in small-scale informal provision in low-income urban areas. This research assesses the potential for formal participation by the indigenous private sector, in operating at a scale intermediate between small-scale informal provision and large-scale urban water utility operation, to participate effectively in the provision and delivery of piped water supply. The study is based on a case study of a water supply concession in Central Nigeria in an urban area close to the capital city that has experienced rapid population growth in recent years. This study aims to investigate the existence of the islamic stock markets integration among Asian countries and the contagion effect caused by the economic slowdown in China. The three islamic stock markets are chosen as the research variabels represented by the islamic stock price index of Morgan Stanley Capital International, which are the Indonesian islamic stock market (MIID), Malaysia Islamic stock market (MIMY), and China Islamic Stock Market (MICN). Subsequently, the data model used is time series data, while purposive sampling approach is the chosen method of determining the samples. The samples of this study are the daily closing price of islamic stock index in Indonesia (MIID), Malaysia (MIMY), and China (MICN) in the time interval from August 30, 2007, to September 1, 2016. That interval is further divided into two periods, the pre-shock/tranquil period (August 30, 2007 - June 11, 2015) and the period when the shock occured/turmoil period (June 12, 2015 - September 1, 2016). The division of interval is aimed to measure the contagion effect as well as differentiate the level of integration and causality relationships among the islamic stock markets in the time before and during the shock. Furthermore, there are 2351 observed data used in this study. To process those data, the EViews 9 econometrics software is used as the analytical tool, while Johansen Cointegration test, Vector Error Correction Model (VECM), Granger Causality test, Impulse Response Function, and Variance Decomposition analysis are used as the research methods. The results of this study showed that in both periods, which are pre-shock period and turmoil period, the islamic stock market of the three countries are integrated with each other. However, there is no evidence of contagion effect during the economic slowdown in China. In addition, there is a bidirectional causality relationship between the Malaysia and China islamic stock markets

This paper describes the implementation of a sustainability monitoring framework within an ongoing regional WASH project in nine countries in West and Central Africa. The paper describes and draws lessons in relation to implementation processes such as development of a common monitoring framework and the procurement of independent parties to conduct sustainability checks of project outputs and outcomes. The paper goes on to describe how based on these lessons and the wider discussion about the role of project monitoring systems in developing countries, project stakeholders have decided to move towards an approach that seeks to strengthen and use country monitoring systems, forge stronger links to other regional and global monitoring processes and develop an advocacy strategy aimed at leveraging increased financial contributions by government

Artesunate reduces but does not prevent posttreatment transmission of Plasmodium falciparum to Anopheles gambiae.

Combination therapy that includes artemisinin derivatives cures most falciparum malaria infections. Lowering transmission by reducing gametocyte infectivity would be an additional benefit. To examine the effect of such therapy on transmission, Gambian children with Plasmodium falciparum malaria were treated with standard regimens of chloroquine or pyrimethamine-sulfadoxine alone or in combination with 1 or 3 doses of artesunate. The infectivity to mosquitoes of gametocytes in peripheral blood was determined 4 or 7 days after treatment. Infection of mosquitoes was observed in all treatment groups and was positively associated with gametocyte density. The probability of transmission was lowest in those who received pyrimethamine-sulfadoxine and 3 doses of artesunate, and it was 8-fold higher in the group that received pyrimethamine-sulfadoxine alone. Artesunate reduced posttreatment infectivity dramatically but did not abolish it completely. The study raises questions about any policy to use pyrimethamine-sulfadoxine alone as the first-line treatment for malaria
