Promjene u jezičnome krajoliku pod utjecajem ideologije – primjer urbanonima Banske Bistrice

This paper analyses how ideology influenced the linguistic landscape in Banská Bystrica, specifically in terms of the diachronic development of the Banská Bystrica urbanonyms in the broader city centre from historical times until the 1990s. During the investigated period, multiple political regimes took turns in generating pressure to change the names of streets and squares from the position of power. Ideological pressure was at work during the period of Austria-Hungary, after the First Czechoslovak Republic was established in 1918, during the Slovak State period (WWII), after the Communist putsch of 1948 and the totalitarian period that followed and lasted until 1989, and even after the democratic changes took place.U ovome se radu analizira utjecaj ideologije na jezični krajolik Banske Bistrice, posebice kada je riječ o dijakronijskome razvoju urbanonima u široj gradskoj jezgri od povijesnih vremena do devedesetih godina 20. stoljeća. Istraživanje obuhvaća razdoblje u kojemu se izmijenilo više političkih režima, koji su s pozicije moći utjecali na promjenu imena ulica i trgova. Pokazalo se da je ideoloških pritisaka bilo za vrijeme Austro-Ugarske Monarhije, nakon uspostave Prve Čehoslovačke Republike 1918. godine, tijekom neovisne Slovačke Republike u vrijeme Drugoga svjetskog rata, nakon komunističkoga puča 1948. godine i razdoblja totalitarne vladavine, koje je trajalo do 1989. godine, pa čak i nakon demokratskih promjena

Odbicie faktów historycznych w kształtowaniu średniowiecznej antroponimii (na przykładzie Hontu)

The paper discusses the way the two-name anthroponymic system was formed – the original one-name system (first name) evolved into the two-name system (first name + byname) and later, the three-name system was established (first name + hereditary byname + functional element of the unofficial name). In the period when the byname became hereditary and was transferred to the following generation, it turned into a surname in terms of its function, and its semantic value went extinct. The lists of subjects in the Hont region of Slovakia were used as the material for analysis. Functional elements of the unofficial names correspond with today’s elements of unofficial anthroponymy; in the past, they were motivated by their owner’s occupation, mental and physical attributes, or their place of origin. The analysis of these names brings important knowledge about the history: the anthroponyms provide information on occupation, origin, and appearance of people in the Middle Ages.W artykule omówiono sposób, w jaki utworzony został dwuimienny system antroponimiczny – pierwotny system imienny (pierwsze imię) ewoluował w system dwuimienny (imię + przydomek), a następnie zakorzenił się system trójimienny (imię + nazwisko dziedziczne/rodowe + element funkcjonalny nazwy nieoficjalnej). W okresie gdy przydomek stał się nazwą dziedziczną, która była  przekazywana następnemu pokoleniu, zaczął funkcjonować jako zwykłe nazwisko, a jego wartość semantyczna wygasła. Jako materiał do analizy wykorzystano spisy mieszkańców w regionie Hont na Słowacji. Elementy funkcjonalne nazw nieoficjalnych odpowiadają dzisiejszym elementom nieoficjalnej antroponimii; w przeszłości motywowały je zawód właściciela, atrybuty psychiczne i fizyczne lub miejsce pochodzenia. Analiza tych nazw przynosi ważną wiedzę na temat historii: antroponimy dostarczają informacji dotyczące wykonywanego zawodu, pochodzenia i wyglądu ludzi w średniowieczu.

Mit MATEJCIK diskutierten wir in den Seminararbeiten über SpN, jedoch schenkte ich Ihnen kaum Aufmerksamkeit, weil mir dieser Bereich schon genug erforscht schien - doch dann interessierte ich mich für die SpN in den slowakischen Dörfern. Durch den Vergleich verschiedener SpN traten allmählich gewisse gemeinsame und unterschiedliche Eigenschaften hervor, und es kamen viele Fragen auf, die ich zu beantworten versuchte

Logonyms as a part of the linguistic landscape

The paper deals with research into the linguistic landscape in the city of Banská Bystrica. The author focuses on logonyms as a part of the linguistic landscape; they are analysed in terms of formal aspects and the number of languages used. The existing onomastic research focused on logonymy in Polish onomastics in Slovakia abroad is also addressed in terms of the shift brought by the linguistic landscape research. The research of logonymy is more complex from the point of view of the linguistic landscape than from the point of view of onomastics, because the analysis of logonyms not only takes into account its onymic side, but also analyzes logonyms from the point of view of visual semiotics, pragmatics, semantic connotations acting on the recipient, etc

Prof. PhDr. Vincent Blanár, DrSc. (*1 December 1920 – †27 September 2012), the doyen of Slovak onomastics and linguistics

In the obituary we point out the importance of Professor Vincent Blanár in linguistics – historical lexicology and lexical semantics but mainly in onomastics. We emphasize the significance of his works in the field of theoretical onomastics and anthroponomastics.
