    Finite volume corrections to the binding energy of the X(3872)

    The quark mass dependence of hadrons is an important input for lattice calculations. We investigate the light quark mass dependence of the binding energy of the X(3872) in a finite box to next-to-leading order in an effective field theory for the X(3872) with perturbative pions (XEFT). At this order, the quark mass dependence is determined by a quark mass-dependent contact interaction in addition to the one-pion exchange. While there is only a moderate sensitivity to the light quark masses in the region up to twice their physical value, the finite volume effects are significant already at box length as large as 20 fm.Comment: 23 pages, 9 figures, REVTe

    Atomic quasi-Bragg diffraction in a magnetic field

    We report on a new technique to split an atomic beam coherently with an easily adjustable splitting angle. In our experiment metastable helium atoms in the |{1s2s}^3S_1 M=1> state diffract from a polarization gradient light field formed by counterpropagating \sigma^+ and \sigma^- polarized laser beams in the presence of a homogeneous magnetic field. In the near-adiabatic regime, energy conservation allows the resonant exchange between magnetic energy and kinetic energy. As a consequence, symmetric diffraction of |M=0> or |M=-1> atoms in a single order is achieved, where the order can be chosen freely by tuning the magnetic field. We present experimental results up to 6th order diffraction (24 \hbar k momentum splitting, i.e., 2.21 m/s in transverse velocity) and present a simple theoretical model that stresses the similarity with conventional Bragg scattering. The resulting device constitutes a flexible, adjustable, large-angle, three-way coherent atomic beam splitter with many potential applications in atom optics and atom interferometry.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure

    Precise Determination of |V{us}| from Lattice Calculations of Pseudoscalar Decay Constants

    Combining the ratio of experimental kaon and pion decay widths, Gamma(K to mu antineutrino{mu} (gamma)) / Gamma(pi to mu \antineutrino (gamma)), with a recent lattice gauge theory calculation of f{K}/f{pi} provides a precise value for the CKM quark mixing matrix element |V{us}|=0.2236(30) or if 3 generation unitarity is assumed |V{us}|=0.2238(30). Comparison with other determinations of that fundamental parameter, implications, and an outlook for future improvements are given

    Individual and contextual determinants of children's and adolescents’ mental health care use:A systematic review

    To improve the access to children's mental health care, knowledge on the determinants of care use is important. Where previous systematic reviews mainly focus on parent-related factors, we are the first to systematically review individual and contextual determinants of mental health care use in children under the age of 18 years old. Five electronic databases were searched for studies on determinants of children's and adolescents’ mental health care use. Twenty-two longitudinal, population-based, quantitative studies were included based on eight inclusion criteria. The Behavioural Model of Health Service Use by Andersen was used for data synthesis. The quality of all studies was rated as high. Seven determinants were labelled with ‘good evidence’ of an association in this systematic review, namely screening programs for mental health problems, family composition, previous mental health care use, overall problem level, externalising behaviour, delinquent behaviour and impact/impairment. No association was found with age, urbanisation, and somatic complaints. Evidence was inconsistent for gender, socioeconomic position, ethnic background, internalising behaviour, aggressive behaviour and depression/anxiety. Little evidence was found for 27 determinants. This systematic review found ‘good evidence’ for seven determinants of children's mental health care use which could be used to improve the access to care. Quality of studies, direction for future research and implications for policy and practice are discussed. More insight is needed in contextual factors and factors for which limited or inconsistent evidence was found. These insights will contribute to decreasing the discrepancies in mental health care use and facilitating earlier intervention

    Three-dimensional tumour microenvironment reconstruction and tumour-immune interactions' analysis

    Tumours arise within complex 3D microenvironments, but the routine 2D analysis of tumours often underestimates the spatial heterogeneity. In this paper, we present a methodology to reconstruct and analyse 3D tumour models from routine clinical samples allowing 3D interactions to be analysed at cellular resolution. Our workflow involves cutting thin serial sections of tumours followed by labelling of cells using markers of interest. Serial sections are then scanned, and digital multiplexed data are created for computational reconstruction. Following spectral unmixing, a registration method of the consecutive images based on a pre-alignment, a parametric and a non-parametric image registration step is applied. For the segmentation of the cells, an ellipsoidal model is proposed and for the 3D reconstruction, a cubic interpolation method is used. The proposed 3D models allow us to identify specific interaction patterns that emerge as tumours develop, adapt and evolve within their host microenvironment. We applied our technique to map tumour-immune interactions of colorectal cancer and preliminary results suggest that 3D models better represent the tumor-immune cells interaction revealing mechanisms within the tumour microenvironment and its heterogeneity

    Contextual determinants associated with children's and adolescents' mental health care utilization:a systematic review

    Determinants at the contextual level are important for children's and adolescents' mental health care utilization, as this is the level where policy makers and care providers can intervene to improve access to and provision of care. The objective of this review was to summarize the evidence on contextual determinants associated with mental health care utilization in children and adolescents. A systematic literature search in five electronic databases was conducted in August 2021 and retrieved 6439 unique records. Based on eight inclusion criteria, 74 studies were included. Most studies were rated as high quality (79.7%) and adjusted for mental health problems (66.2%). The determinants that were identified were categorized into four levels: organizational, community, public policy or macro-environmental. There was evidence of a positive association between mental health care utilization and having access to a school-based health center, region of residence, living in an urban area, living in an area with high accessibility of mental health care, living in an area with high socio-economic status, having a mental health parity law, a mental health screening program, fee-for-service plan (compared to managed care plan), extension of health insurance coverage and collaboration between organizations providing care. For the other 35 determinants, only limited evidence was available. To conclude, this systematic review identifies ten contextual determinants of children's and adolescents' mental health care utilization, which can be influenced by policymakers and care providers.     A background-priority discrete boundary triangulation method

    Discrete boundary triangulation methods generate triangular meshes through the centers of the boundary voxels of a volumetric object. At some voxel configurations it may be arbitrary whether a part of the volume should be included in the object or could be classified as background. Consequently, important details such as concave and convex edges and corners are not consistently preserved in the describing geometry. We present a "background priority" version of an existing "object priority" algorithm [6]. We show that the ad hoc configurations of the well-known Discretized Marching Cubes algorithm [13] can be derived from our method and that a combined triangulation with "object priority" and "background priority" better would preserve object details

    The Structure of the [Zn_In - V_P] Defect Complex in Zn Doped InP

    We study the structure, the formation and binding energies and the transfer levels of the zinc-phosphorus vacancy complex [Zn_In - V_P] in Zn doped p-type InP, as a function of the charge, using plane wave ab initio DFT-LDA calculations in a 64 atom supercell. We find a binding energy of 0.39 eV for the complex, which is neutral in p-type material, the 0/-1 transfer level lying 0.50 eV above the valence band edge, all in agreement with recent positron annihilation experiments. This indicates that, whilst the formation of phosphorus vacancies (V_P) may be involved in carrier compensation in heavily Zn doped material, the formation of Zn-vacancy complexes is not. Regarding the structure: for charge states Q=+6 to -4 the Zn atom is in an sp^2 bonded DX position and electrons added/removed go to/come from the remaining dangling bonds on the triangle of In atoms. This reduces the effective vacancy volume monatonically as electrons are added to the complex, also in agreement with experiment. The reduction occurs through a combination of increased In-In bonding and increased Zn-In electrostatic attraction. In addition, for certain charge states we find complex Jahn-Teller behaviour in which up to three different structures, (with the In triangle dimerised, antidimerised or symmetric) are stable and are close to degenerate. We are able to predict and successfully explain the structural behaviour of this complex using a simple tight binding model.Comment: 10 pages text (postscript) plus 8 figures (jpeg).
