Hlavní část práce je tedy věnována této problematice včetně segmentace cévního řečiště pomocí Gaborových filtrů, morfologické eroze, prahování, skeletonizace, a výsledné optimalizace aproximačního modelu. Na závěr je diskutována kvalita vytvořeného modelovacího algoritmu.Studies of the vascular tree in the retina have applications not only in the medical field but also biometrics. The mathematical description of the retinal vasculature could help facilitate and improve the diagnosis of certain diseases, their automatic localization or to accelerate the identification and verification of individuals. The aim is to design and develop an algorithm that will automatically approximate major retinal vessels by parabolic, linear and kvartic functions. The main part of this thesis is therefore devoted to this issue, including vascular segmentation using Gabor filters, morphological erosion, thresholding, skeletonization and the resulting optimization of the approximation model. The quality of the produced algorithm is discussed in the summary.

Landscape-level heterogeneity of agri-environment measures improves habitat suitability for farmland birds

Agri-environment schemes (AESs), ecological focus areas (EFAs), and organic farming are the main tools of the common agricultural policy (CAP) to counteract the dramatic decline of farmland biodiversity in Europe. However, their effectiveness is repeatedly doubted because it seems to vary when measured at the field-versus-landscape level and to depend on the regional environmental and land-use context. Understanding the heterogeneity of their effectiveness is thus crucial to developing management recommendations that maximize their efficacy. Using ensemble species distribution models and spatially explicit field-level information on crops grown, farming practice (organic/conventional), and applied AES/EFA from the Integrated Administration and Control System, we investigated the contributions of five groups of measures (buffer areas, cover crops, extensive grassland management, fallow land, and organic farming) to habitat suitability for 15 farmland bird species in the Mulde River Basin, Germany. We used a multiscale approach to identify the scale of effect of the selected measures. Using simulated land-use scenarios, we further examined how breeding habitat suitability would change if the measures were completely removed and if their adoption by farmers increased to meet conservation-informed targets. Buffer areas, fallow land, and extensive grassland were beneficial measures for most species, but cover crops and organic farming had contrasting effects across species. While different measures acted at different spatial scales, our results highlight the importance of land-use management at the landscape level—at which most measures had the strongest effect. We found that the current level of adoption of the measures delivers only modest gains in breeding habitat suitability. However, habitat suitability improved for the majority of species when the implementation of the measures was increased, suggesting that they could be effective conservation tools if higher adoption levels were reached. The heterogeneity of responses across species and spatial scales indicated that a mix of different measures, applied widely across the agricultural landscape, would likely maximize the benefits for biodiversity. This can only be achieved if the measures in the future CAP will be cooperatively designed in a regionally targeted way to improve their attractiveness for farmers and widen their uptake

Utilization of sludge from mine water treatment plant in the segment of thermal insulation mortars

    Get PDF
The results from the experimental research are presented in the abstract. The experimental research involved utilization of the sludge from the mine water treatment plant of Coal Quarry ČSA/Czechoslovak Army/ (hereinafter “ČSA”) and Coal Quarry Jana Švermy (hereinafter “JŠ”) in the segment of thermal insulation mortars. The mine water treatment is described below including chemical and mineralogical sludge composition as the additional component of the binding material in the polyurethane thermal insulation mortars. Furthermore the composition of experimental mixtures of the thermal insulation polyurethane mortar is presented in the work and its physical-mechanical properties. The monitored elements included the strength characteristics, heat conductivity coefficient λ, and water vapour diffusion coefficient μ.Web of Science401595

Structure service life assessment under combined loading using probability approach

    Get PDF
This article presents a basic research approach for probabilistic assessment of vehicle structure fatigue endurance under multiaxial loading. One representative welded structural detail of the bottom joint plate of an articulated bus was selected for the case study. The character of the loading on the joint during a service test is analyzed and discussed. The methodology for estimation of the damage level in the joint builds on deterministic procedures for railway vehicle assessment based on shear, longitudinal and transverse stress components. This approach based on the equivalent stress and particular load capacity factors was expanded to include the probabilistic perspective. KEYWORDS. Design of switching amplifier used in negative impedance dispoal for the active control of transducer's acoustic impedance

    Get PDF
We present a concept of "active material" with variable acoustic properties, being constituted of an electroacoustic transducer which acoustic impedance can be changed by an active mean. Among the different ways to obtain variable acoustic properties on an electroacoustic transducer's voicing face is the shunting of the transducer's electrical input. With such shunt devices, the acoustic impedance that the transducer's membrane presents to the acoustic field comprises an acoustic equivalent of the electrical load that can take many values within a specified range. The shunt strategy can either be a passive, with a simple resistor for instance, or active, by way of a negative resistance circuit including at least one operational amplifier. The advantage of the active mean is that it should theoretically allow obtaining very high values of acoustic impedances, in other words to even obtain perfect isolating acoustic material. Though, the use of the operational amplifier presents many drawbacks such as operational instability, high sensitivity to adjustments, and inefficient electrical energy transfer in the electronic circuit. Moreover, when it comes to absorbing/reflecting very high sound pressure levels, these devices are pushed towards their functional limits. In order to counteract the aforementioned problems, a switching amplifier has been designed for the negative impedance disposal. The present work will describe the design of such a switching amplifier for enhanced stability and performances of the active material concept. Theoretical considerations will be compared to experimental (acoustical and electrical) assessments of a prototype, highlighting the main advantages and drawbacks of such disposals, and leading to concluding remarks on general behaviour and possible means of enhancements

A social-ecological approach to identify and quantify biodiversity tipping points in South America’s seasonal dry ecosystems

ropical dry forests and savannas harbour unique biodiversity and provide critical ES, yet they are under severe pressure globally. We need to improve our understanding of how and when this pressure provokes tipping points in biodiversity and the associated social-ecological systems. We propose an approach to investigate how drivers leading to natural vegetation decline trigger biodiversity tipping and illustrate it using the example of the Dry Diagonal in South America, an understudied deforestation frontier. The Dry Diagonal represents the largest continuous area of dry forests and savannas in South America, extending over three million km² across Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, and Paraguay. Natural vegetation in the Dry Diagonal has been undergoing large-scale transformations for the past 30 years due to massive agricultural expansion and intensification. Many signs indicate that natural vegetation decline has reached critical levels. Major research gaps prevail, however, in our understanding of how these transformations affect the unique and rich biodiversity of the Dry Diagonal, and how this affects the ecological integrity and the provisioning of ES that are critical both for local livelihoods and commercial agriculture.Fil: Thonicke, Kirsten.
