    Multi-objective optimisation method for coordinating battery storage systems, photovoltaic inverters and tap changers

    The many well-established advantages of distributed generation (DG) make their usage in active distribution networks prevalent. However, uncontrolled operation of DG units can negatively interfere with the performance of other equipment, such as tap-changers, in addition to resulting in sub-optimal usage of their potential. Thus, adequate scheduling/control of DG units is critical for operators of the distribution system to avoid those adverse effects. A linearised model of a multi-objective method for coordinating the operation of photovoltaics, battery storage systems, and tap-changers is proposed. Three objective functions are defined for simultaneously enhancing voltage profile, minimising power losses, and reducing peak load power. The formulated multi-objective problem is solved by means of the epsilon-constraint technique. A novel decision-making methodology is offered to find the Pareto optimality and select the preferred solution. To assess to proposed model's performance, it is tested using 33-bus IEEE test system. Consequently, tap-changers suffer lessened stress, the batteries state-of-charge is kept within adequate limits, and the DG units operation is at higher efficiency.     Multiobjective Congestion Management and Transmission Switching Ensuring System Reliability

    Congestion in transmission lines is an important topic in power systems and it continues to be an area of active research. Various approaches have been proposed to mitigate congestion especially immediate ready ones such as Congestion Management (CM) and Transmission Switching (TS). Using either of the two or their combination (CMTS) may have undesirable consequences like increasing operational costs or increasing the number of switching of transmission lines. More switching aggravates system reliability and imposes extra costs on the operator. In this paper, a multi-objective model is introduced which reduces overall operation costs, the number of switching in transmission lines, and the congestion of lines, compared to available approaches which employ congestion management and TS simultaneously. To verify the performance of the proposed model, it is implemented using GAMS and tested on 6- and 118- bus IEEE test systems. A benders' decomposition approach was employed.© 2019 IEEE.     The COVID-19 pandemic continues to endanger world health and the economy. The causative SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus has a unique replication system. The end point of the COVID-19 pandemic is either herd immunity or widespread availability of an effective vaccine. Multiple candidate vaccines - peptide, virus-like particle, viral vectors (replicating and nonreplicating), nucleic acids (DNA or RNA), live attenuated virus, recombinant designed proteins and inactivated virus - are presently under various stages of expansion, and a small number of vaccine candidates have progressed into clinical phases. At the time of writing, three major pharmaceutical companies, namely Pfizer and Moderna, have their vaccines under mass production and administered to the public.     Potential risk factors for diabetic neuropathy: a case control study

    BACKGROUND: Diabetes mellitus type II afflicts at least 2 million people in Iran. Neuropathy is one of the most common complications of diabetes and lowers the patient's quality of life. Since neuropathy often leads to ulceration and amputation, we have tried to elucidate the factors that can affect its progression. METHODS: In this case-control study, 110 diabetic patients were selected from the Shariati Hospital diabetes clinic. Michigan Neuropathic Diabetic Scoring (MNDS) was used to differentiate cases from controls. The diagnosis of neuropathy was confirmed by nerve conduction studies (nerve conduction velocity and electromyography). The multiple factors compared between the two groups included consumption of angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEI), blood pressure, serum lipid level, sex, smoking, method of diabetes control and its quality. RESULTS: Statistically significant relationships were found between neuropathy and age, gender, quality of diabetes control and duration of disease (P values in the order: 0.04, 0.04, < 0.001 and 0.005). No correlation was found with any atherosclerosis risk factor (high BP, hyperlipidemia, cigarette smoking). CONCLUSION: In this study, hyperglycemia was the only modifiable risk factor for diabetic neuropathy. Glycemic control reduces the incidence of neuropathy, slows its progression and improves the diabetic patient's quality of life. More attention must be paid to elderly male diabetic patients with poor diabetes control with regard to regular foot examinations and more practical education

    The global burden of cancer attributable to risk factors, 2010-19 : a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019

    Background Understanding the magnitude of cancer burden attributable to potentially modifiable risk factors is crucial for development of effective prevention and mitigation strategies. We analysed results from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019 to inform cancer control planning efforts globally. Methods The GBD 2019 comparative risk assessment framework was used to estimate cancer burden attributable to behavioural, environmental and occupational, and metabolic risk factors. A total of 82 risk-outcome pairs were included on the basis of the World Cancer Research Fund criteria. Estimated cancer deaths and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) in 2019 and change in these measures between 2010 and 2019 are presented. Findings Globally, in 2019, the risk factors included in this analysis accounted for 4.45 million (95% uncertainty interval 4.01-4.94) deaths and 105 million (95.0-116) DALYs for both sexes combined, representing 44.4% (41.3-48.4) of all cancer deaths and 42.0% (39.1-45.6) of all DALYs. There were 2.88 million (2.60-3.18) risk-attributable cancer deaths in males (50.6% [47.8-54.1] of all male cancer deaths) and 1.58 million (1.36-1.84) risk-attributable cancer deaths in females (36.3% [32.5-41.3] of all female cancer deaths). The leading risk factors at the most detailed level globally for risk-attributable cancer deaths and DALYs in 2019 for both sexes combined were smoking, followed by alcohol use and high BMI. Risk-attributable cancer burden varied by world region and Socio-demographic Index (SDI), with smoking, unsafe sex, and alcohol use being the three leading risk factors for risk-attributable cancer DALYs in low SDI locations in 2019, whereas DALYs in high SDI locations mirrored the top three global risk factor rankings. From 2010 to 2019, global risk-attributable cancer deaths increased by 20.4% (12.6-28.4) and DALYs by 16.8% (8.8-25.0), with the greatest percentage increase in metabolic risks (34.7% [27.9-42.8] and 33.3% [25.8-42.0]). Interpretation The leading risk factors contributing to global cancer burden in 2019 were behavioural, whereas metabolic risk factors saw the largest increases between 2010 and 2019. Reducing exposure to these modifiable risk factors would decrease cancer mortality and DALY rates worldwide, and policies should be tailored appropriately to local cancer risk factor burden. Despite continued control efforts, the incidence of CL has increased in the many areas of Iran. the counties of Ardakan, Khatam, Bafgh, Abarkuh and Yazd are endemic places for cl in Yazd province that have occurred outbreak in them during March 2015 to March 2016.The aim of this paper was to identify the Epidemiological and clinical Aspects of Leishmaniasis in patients that were reported from these five endemic foci during outbreak . Methods: This descriptive study was conducted on 150 cutaneous leishmaniasis patients that were referred to the provincial health center during outbreak from March 2015 to March 2016. Clinical and demographic information of patients were registered and analyzed by SPSS 23 software. Result: From 150 cases 121 (80.2%) lived in urban areas. 93 (62%) of the patients were males. The most frequent age group was 21-30 years old (18.7%). housekeepers had the highest incidence (22.6%). (41.3%) of patients had Elementary education. Monthly family income in over half of the patients were less than a million tomans at months. The maximum number of CL cases were reported in autumn with 62(41.3%) Of the patients. 98 (65.3%) of the patients reported a history of travel in the past year. the highest rates of CL lesions were seen in feet (18.7%). In over half of the cases (52.7%), wound size was over than one centimeter and 82 (54.7%) of patients had only one wound. Conclusion: In order to outbreak control, Basic measures such as Public education and education for people who travel to endemic areas and treatment of patients infected with urban type leishmaniasis as a reservoir, according to the geographical condition and carrier can be useful
