Exact solutions for the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory in five dimensions: Black holes, wormholes and spacetime horns
An exhaustive classification of certain class of static solutions for the
five-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory in vacuum is presented. The class
of metrics under consideration is such that the spacelike section is a warped
product of the real line with a nontrivial base manifold. It is shown that for
generic values of the coupling constants the base manifold must be necessarily
of constant curvature, and the solution reduces to the topological extension of
the Boulware-Deser metric. It is also shown that the base manifold admits a
wider class of geometries for the special case when the Gauss-Bonnet coupling
is properly tuned in terms of the cosmological and Newton constants. This
freedom in the metric at the boundary, which determines the base manifold,
allows the existence of three main branches of geometries in the bulk. For
negative cosmological constant, if the boundary metric is such that the base
manifold is arbitrary, but fixed, the solution describes black holes whose
horizon geometry inherits the metric of the base manifold. If the base manifold
possesses a negative constant Ricci scalar, two different kinds of wormholes in
vacuum are obtained. For base manifolds with vanishing Ricci scalar, a
different class of solutions appears resembling "spacetime horns". There is
also a special case for which, if the base manifold is of constant curvature,
due to certain class of degeneration of the field equations, the metric admits
an arbitrary redshift function. For wormholes and spacetime horns, there are
regions for which the gravitational and centrifugal forces point towards the
same direction. All these solutions have finite Euclidean action, which reduces
to the free energy in the case of black holes, and vanishes in the other cases.
Their mass is also obtained from a surface integral.Comment: 31 pages, 1 figure, minor changes and references added. Final version

Aplikasi Peta 3-Dimensi Universitas Negeri Manado

Soft and stiff normal modes in floppy colloidal square lattices
Floppy microscale spring networks are widely studied in theory and
simulations, but no well-controlled experimental system currently exists. Here,
we show that square lattices consisting of colloid-supported lipid bilayers
functionalized with DNA linkers act as microscale floppy spring networks. We
extract their normal modes by inverting the particle displacement correlation
matrix, showing the emergence of a spectrum of soft modes with low effective
stiffness in addition to stiff modes that derive from linker interactions.
Evaluation of the softest mode, a uniform shear mode, reveals that shear
stiffness decreases with lattice size. Experiments match well with Brownian
particle simulations and we develop a theoretical description based on mapping
interactions onto linear response to describe the modes. Our results reveal the
importance of entropic steric effects, and can be used for developing
reconfigurable materials at the colloidal length scale
Phases of anisotropic dipolar antiferromagnets
We study systems of classical magnetic dipoles on simple cubic lattices with
dipolar and antiferromagnetic exchange interactions. By analysis and Monte
Carlo (MC) simulations, we find how the antiferromagnetic phases vary with
uniaxial and fourfold anisotropy constants, C and D, as well as with exchange
strength J. We pay special attention to the spin reorientation (SR) phase, and
exhibit in detail the nature of its broken symmetries. By mean field theory and
by MC, we also obtain the ratio of the higher ordering temperature to the SR
transition temperature, and show that it depends mainly on D/C, and rather
weakly on J. We find a reverse SR transition.Comment: 10 LaTeX pages, 14 eps figures. Submitted to PRB on 03 October 2005.

Visualizing the 3D Polar Power Patterns and Excitations of Planar Arrays with Matlab
[Abstrac] This paper discusses the use of Matlab to create three-dimensional polar plots of the power patterns of planar arrays together with 3D plots of the amplitudes and phases of their excitations. A few lines of Matlab M-code suffice to create complex plots
Effects of Measurement Distance on Measurements of Symmetrically Shaped Patterns Generated by Line Sources
[Abstract] Symmetrically shaped patterns, generated by real continuous linear apertures derived from Taylor distributions, resemble Taylor sum patterns in regard to the distance-dependence of their sidelobe heights. Their ripple shows negligible near-field degradation. If the aperture distribution is complex, however, the ripple and sidelobe levels show previously unreported degradation behavior, including a lowering of the first sidelobe level
