Geodesic Structure of the Schwarzschild Black Hole in Rainbow Gravity

In this paper we study the geodesic structure of the Schwarzschild black hole in rainbow gravity analyzing the behavior of null and time-like geodesic. We find that the structure of the geodesics essentially does not change when the semi-classical effects are included. However, we can distinguish different scenarios if we take into account the effects of rainbow gravity. Depending on the type of rainbow functions under consideration, inertial and external observers see very different situations in radial and non radial motion of a test particles.Comment: Version to match the accepted one in MPL

Trait Emotional Intelligence and Leadership Self-Efficacy: Their Relationship with Collective Efficacy

In this article, a leadership model is presented, with which to investigate the relationship of trait emotional intelligence (trait EI), leadership self-efficacy and leader’s task self-efficacy with collective task efficacy and group performance. The sample was made up of 217 undergraduate students, randomly assigned to work teams of 1 leader and 2 followers that were requested to perform a production task. An adapted version of the Schutte Self-Report Inventory (SSRI; Schutte et al., 1998) was used to measure trait EI. Structural equation modeling was used to test the hypothesized relationships. Results indicated that task self-efficacy was a mediator between leadership self-efficacy and collective task efficacy; the latter, in turn, was the best predictor of group performance. No significant relationship was found between trait EI and collective task efficacy although, unexpectedly, trait EI was positively associated with leadership self-efficacy. Implications of the results are discussed

Discipline, learning and interaction in US bilingual classroom contexts

This article presents the results derived from the implementation of a new discipline program at Fischer Middle School, San Jose, California, a bilingual school (English/ Spanish) located in an area of predominantly low income Hispanic student population. In order to tackle the interference with academic achievement arising from discipline problems, new strategies in the treatment of behavior and discipline issues were adopted: development of responsibility, meaningful rules and consequences, preventive strategies and alternatives to punishment for minor and more severe problems. The findings were both contradictory and encouraging: the survey showed a bigger interest in learning and academic achievement in most children; on the other hand, GPAS did not get better in the year of the intervention and the overall number of referrals increased slightly, although there was a significant month to month reduction pattern in the second year.

Multispectral Image Analysis of Remotely Sensed Crops

The range in topography, biodiversity, and agricultural technology has led to the emergence of precision agriculture. Precision agriculture is a farming management concept based on monitoring, measuring, and responding to crop variability. Computer vision, image analysis, and image processing are gaining considerable traction. For this paper, image analysis involves recognizing individual objects and providing insights from vegetation indices. The data acquired was remote-sensed multispectral images from blueberry, maguey, and pineapple. After computing vegetation indices, histograms were analyzed to choose thresholds. The masking of vegetation indices with threshold allowed the removal of areas with shadows and soil. The four leading vegetation indices used were the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), the Normalized Difference Red Edge (NDRE), the Simple Ratio, the Red Edge Chlorophyll Index, and the Visible Atmospherically Resistant Index (SAVI). This research reviews literature for acquiring, preprocessing, and analyzing remote-sensed multispectral images in precision agriculture. It compiles the theoretical framework for analyzing multispectral data. Also, it describes and implements radiometric calibration and image alignment using the custom code from the MicaSense repository. As a result, it was possible to segment the blueberry, tequila agave, and pineapple plants from the background regardless of the noisy images. Non-plant pixels were excluded and shown as transparent by masking areas with shadows and low NDVI pixels, which sometimes removed plant pixels. The NDVI and NDRE helped identify crop pixels. On the other hand, it was possible to identify the pineapple fruits from the agave plantation using the SAVI vegetation index and the thresholding method. Finally, the work identifies the problems associated with an incorrect data acquisition methodology and provides suggestions.ITESO, A. C
