SIN001, drug for improvement of the embryonic implantation. Study of endometrial markers in clinical regulatory phase
Motivation:The study of endometrial receptivity has opened a new approach in the world of assisted reproduction, allowing the development of genetic tests, drugs and techniques that increase the rate of âchild at homeâ mainly in couples who are attending to assisted reproduction programmes. Genetic tests about endometrial receptivity allow to evaluate the âwindow of implantationâ (WOI) estimating the best moment for successful embryo transfer, decreasing the maternal factor. Due to the progress of these tests it can be considered if drugs like SIN001, improve endometrial receptivity in clinical phase. Methods:Through the endometrial biopsy before and after the intake of the drug SIN001 of 32 women in a natural cycle, the transcriptome is analysed, after extracting RNA, using quantitative PCR in microfluidics technique (Fluidigm technology). It consists of a dynamic array where the samples and the primers of the genes, in this case 192 markers previously described and related to the endometrial receptivity, are combined in a real-time PCR. A pre-treatment and treatment histological determination can be obtained due to the endometrial biopsy, for the expression and localization of some of the proteins that have been defined as important in endometrial receptivity.Results: In the preclinical in vitro tests obtained with the drug SIN001, the toxicity was dismissed and the adhesion increase was observed in cell culture models and in primary cultures models of endometrial epithelium. In this clinical phase is expected to improve the WOI in women after the intake of the drug and therefore the embryo implantation. In addition, to evaluate the receptive status of the women with the endometrial receptivity test and also it is expected to establish the expression profile of the 192 genes in the transcriptomics, as well as an evaluation of the proteins obtained in immunohistochemistry.Conclusions: Currently there are no drugs improving embryo implantation, this means that the discovery of a substance like SIN001, significantly increase the probability of success in reproduction clinics, since the drug is expected to cover three phases: (i) endometrial preparation; (ii) embryo implantation; (iii) placentation and prevention of spontaneous miscarriage. Therefore, the next steps to scale up the drug to market would be to increase the cohort of the study and studies focusing on the action mechanism of the drug SIN001 in endometrium

Simplifying one-loop amplitudes in superstring theory
We show that 4-point vector boson one-loop amplitudes, computed in ref.[1] in
the RNS formalism, around vacuum configurations with open unoriented strings,
preserving at least N=1 SUSY in D=4, satisfy the correct supersymmetry Ward
identities, in that they vanish for non MHV configurations (++++) and (-+++).
In the MHV case (--++) we drastically simplify their expressions. We then study
factorisation and the limiting IR and UV behaviour and find some unexpected
results. In particular no massless poles are exposed at generic values of the
modular parameter. Relying on the supersymmetric properties of our bosonic
amplitudes, we extend them to manifestly supersymmetric super-amplitudes and
compare our results with those obtained in the D=4 hybrid formalism, pointing
out difficulties in reconciling the two approaches for contributions from N=1,2

Stabilizing entanglement autonomously between two superconducting qubits
Quantum error-correction codes would protect an arbitrary state of a
multi-qubit register against decoherence-induced errors, but their
implementation is an outstanding challenge for the development of large-scale
quantum computers. A first step is to stabilize a non-equilibrium state of a
simple quantum system such as a qubit or a cavity mode in the presence of
decoherence. Several groups have recently accomplished this goal using
measurement-based feedback schemes. A next step is to prepare and stabilize a
state of a composite system. Here we demonstrate the stabilization of an
entangled Bell state of a quantum register of two superconducting qubits for an
arbitrary time. Our result is achieved by an autonomous feedback scheme which
combines continuous drives along with a specifically engineered coupling
between the two-qubit register and a dissipative reservoir. Similar autonomous
feedback techniques have recently been used for qubit reset and the
stabilization of a single qubit state, as well as for creating and stabilizing
states of multipartite quantum systems. Unlike conventional, measurement-based
schemes, an autonomous approach counter-intuitively uses engineered dissipation
to fight decoherence, obviating the need for a complicated external feedback
loop to correct errors, simplifying implementation. Instead the feedback loop
is built into the Hamiltonian such that the steady state of the system in the
presence of drives and dissipation is a Bell state, an essential building-block
state for quantum information processing. Such autonomous schemes, broadly
applicable to a variety of physical systems as demonstrated by a concurrent
publication with trapped ion qubits, will be an essential tool for the
implementation of quantum-error correction.Comment: 39 pages, 7 figure
Ulcerative colitis in northern Portugal and Galicia in Spain
BACKGROUND: Clinical and therapeutic patterns of ulcerative colitis (UC) are variable in different world regions. The purpose of this study was to examine two close independent southern European UC populations from 2 bordering countries and observe how demographic and clinical characteristics of patients can influence the severity of UC.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted during a 15-month period (September 2005 to December 2006) based on data of 2 Web registries of UC patients. Patients were stratified according to the Montreal Classification and disease severity was defined by the type of treatment taken.
RESULTS: A total of 1549 UC patients were included, 1008 (65%) from northern Portugal and 541 (35%) from Galicia (northwest Spain). A female predominance (57%) was observed in Portuguese patients (P < 0.001). The median age at diagnosis was 35 years and median years of disease was 7. The majority of patients (53%) were treated only with mesalamine, while 15% had taken immunosuppressant drugs, and 3% biologic treatment. Most patients in both groups were not at risk for aggressive therapy. Extensive colitis was a predictive risk factor for immunosuppression in northern Portugal and Galicia (odds ratio [OR] 2.737, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.846-4.058; OR 5.799, 95% CI: 3.433-9.795, respectively) and biologic treatment in Galicia (OR 6.329, 95% CI: 2.641-15.166). Younger patients presented a severe course at onset with more frequent use of immunosuppressors in both countries.
CONCLUSIONS: In a large population of UC patients from two independent southern European countries, most patients did not require aggressive therapy, but extensive colitis was a clear risk factor for more severe diseas
Sparticle Spectrum of Large Volume Compactification
We examine the large volume compactification of Type IIB string theory or its
F theory limit and the associated supersymmetry breakdown and soft terms. It is
crucial to incorporate the loop-induced moduli mixing, originating from
radiative corrections to the Kahler potential. We show that in the presence of
moduli mixing, soft scalar masses generically receive a D-term contribution of
the order of the gravitino mass m_{3/2} when the visible sector cycle is
stabilized by the D-term potential of an anomalous U(1) gauge symmetry, while
the moduli-mediated gaugino masses and A-parameters tend to be of the order of
m_{3/2}/8pi^2. It is noticed also that a too large moduli mixing can
destabilize the large volume solution by making it a saddle point.Comment: 29 page

Rapid Detection of Infestation of Apple Fruits by the Peach Fruit Moth, Carposina sasakii Matsumura, Larvae Using a 0.2-T Dedicated Magnetic Resonance Imaging Apparatus
Infestation of harvested apple fruits by the peach fruit moth (Carposina sasakii Matsumura) was studied using a dedicated magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) apparatus equipped with a 0.2-T permanent magnet. Infested holes on the three-dimensional (3-D) images tracked ecological movements of peach fruit moth larvae within the food fruits, and thus in their natural habitat. Sensitive short solenoid coil and surface coil detectors were devised to shorten measurement times. The short solenoid coil detected infestation holes at a rate of 6.4Â s per image by the single-slice 2-D measurement. The multi-slice 2-D measurement provided six slice images of a fruit within 2Â min taken by the two detectors. These results indicate that the 0.2-T MRI apparatus allows one to distinguish sound fruits from infested ones, and also as a means for plant protection and the preservation of natural ecological systems in foreign trade
Planck intermediate results. XLI. A map of lensing-induced B-modes
The secondary cosmic microwave background (CMB) -modes stem from the
post-decoupling distortion of the polarization -modes due to the
gravitational lensing effect of large-scale structures. These lensing-induced
-modes constitute both a valuable probe of the dark matter distribution and
an important contaminant for the extraction of the primary CMB -modes from
inflation. Planck provides accurate nearly all-sky measurements of both the
polarization -modes and the integrated mass distribution via the
reconstruction of the CMB lensing potential. By combining these two data
products, we have produced an all-sky template map of the lensing-induced
-modes using a real-space algorithm that minimizes the impact of sky masks.
The cross-correlation of this template with an observed (primordial and
secondary) -mode map can be used to measure the lensing -mode power
spectrum at multipoles up to . In particular, when cross-correlating with
the -mode contribution directly derived from the Planck polarization maps,
we obtain lensing-induced -mode power spectrum measurement at a significance
level of , which agrees with the theoretical expectation derived
from the Planck best-fit CDM model. This unique nearly all-sky
secondary -mode template, which includes the lensing-induced information
from intermediate to small () angular scales, is
delivered as part of the Planck 2015 public data release. It will be
particularly useful for experiments searching for primordial -modes, such as
BICEP2/Keck Array or LiteBIRD, since it will enable an estimate to be made of
