The Weiss conjecture on admissibility of observation operators for contraction semigroups
We prove the conjecture of George Weiss for contraction semigroups on Hilbert spaces, giving a characterization of infinite-time admissible observation functionals for a contraction semigroup, namely that such a functional C is infinite-time admissible if and only if there is an M > 0 such that parallel to IC(sI - A)(-1)parallel to less than or equal to M/root Re s for all s in the open right half-plane. Here A denotes the infinitesimal generator of the semigroup. The result provides a simultaneous generalization of several celebrated results from the theory of Hardy spaces involving Carleson measures and Hankel operators
Decoherence dynamics of a qubit coupled to a quantum two-level system
We study the decoherence dynamics of a qubit coupled to a quantum two-level
system (TLS) in addition to its weak coupling to a background environment. We
analyze the different regimes of behaviour that arise as the values of the
different parameters are varied. We classify those regimes as two weak-coupling
regimes, which differ by the relation between the qubit and TLS decoherence
times, and a strong-coupling one. We also find analytic expressions describing
the decoherence rates in the weak-coupling regimes, and we verify numerically
that those expressions have a rather wide range of validity. Along with
obtaining the above-mentioned results, we address the questions of qubit-TLS
entanglement and the additivity of multiple TLS contributions. We also discuss
the transition from weak to strong coupling as the parameters are varied, and
we numerically determine the location of the boundary between the two regimes.Comment: 9 pages (two-column), 3 figure
Event-B Patterns for Specifying Fault-Tolerance in Multi-Agent Interaction
Interaction in a multi-agent system is susceptible to failure. A rigorous development of a multi-agent system must include the treatment of fault-tolerance of agent interactions for the agents to be able to continue to function independently. Patterns can be used to capture fault-tolerance techniques. A set of modelling patterns is presented that specify fault-tolerance in Event-B specifications of multi-agent interactions. The purpose of these patterns is to capture common modelling structures for distributed agent interaction in a form that is re-usable on other related developments. The patterns have been applied to a case study of the contract net interaction protocol
Generalized Contact Formalism Analysis of the ⁴He(e,e′pN) Reaction
Measurements of short-range correlations in exclusive 4He (e , e ′ p N) reactions are analyzed using the Generalized Contact Formalism (GCF). We consider both instant-form and light-cone formulations with both the AV18 and local N2LO(1.0) nucleon-nucleon (NN) potentials. We find that kinematic distributions, such as the reconstructed pair opening angle, recoil neutron momentum distribution, and pair center of mass motion, as well as the measured missing energy, missing mass distributions, are all well reproduced by GCF calculations. The missing momentum dependence of the measured 4He (e , e ′ p N) /4He (e , e ′ p) cross-section ratios, sensitive to nature of the NN interaction at short-distacnes, are also well reproduced by GCF calculations using either interaction and formulation. This gives credence to the GCF scale-separated factorized description of the short-distance many-body nuclear wave-function
A toy model of fractal glioma development under RF electric field treatment
A toy model for glioma treatment by a radio frequency electric field is
suggested. This low-intensity, intermediate-frequency alternating electric
field is known as the tumor-treating-field (TTF). In the framework of this
model the efficiency of this TTF is estimated, and the interplay between the
TTF and the migration-proliferation dichotomy of cancer cells is considered.
The model is based on a modification of a comb model for cancer cells, where
the migration-proliferation dichotomy becomes naturally apparent. Considering
glioma cancer as a fractal dielectric composite of cancer cells and normal
tissue cells, a new effective mechanism of glioma treatment is suggested in the
form of a giant enhancement of the TTF. This leads to the irreversible
electroporation that may be an effective non-invasive method of treating brain
cancer.Comment: Submitted for publication in European Physical Journal
TOP BP1(Dpb11) plays a conserved role in homologous recombination DNA repair through the coordinated recruitment of 53BP1(Rad9)
Genome maintenance and cancer suppression require homologous recombination (HR) DNA repair. In yeast and mammals, the scaffold protein TOPBP1Dpb11 has been implicated in HR, although its precise function and mechanism of action remain elusive. In this study, we show that yeast Dpb11 plays an antagonistic role in recombination control through regulated protein interactions. Dpb11 mediates opposing roles in DNA end resection by coordinating both the stabilization and exclusion of Rad9 from DNA lesions. The Mec1 kinase promotes the pro-resection function of Dpb11 by mediating its interaction with the Slx4 scaffold. Human TOPBP1Dpb11 engages in interactions with the anti-resection factor 53BP1 and the pro-resection factor BRCA1, suggesting that TOPBP1 also mediates opposing functions in HR control. Hyperstabilization of the 53BP1-TOPBP1 interaction enhances the recruitment of 53BP1 to nuclear foci in the S phase, resulting in impaired HR and the accumulation of chromosomal aberrations. Our results support a model in which TOPBP1Dpb11 plays a conserved role in mediating a phosphoregulated circuitry for the control of recombinational DNA repair
Decoherence and Initial Correlations in Quantum Brownian Motion
We analyze the evolution of a quantum Brownian particle starting from an
initial state that contains correlations between this system and its
environment. Using a path integral approach, we obtain a master equation for
the reduced density matrix of the system finding relatively simple expressions
for its time dependent coefficients. We examine the evolution of delocalized
initial states (Schr\"odinger's cats) investigating the effectiveness of the
decoherence process. Analytic results are obtained for an ohmic environment
(Drude's model) at zero temperature.Comment: 15 pages, RevTex, 5 figures included. Submitted to Phys. Rev.
Toward scalable quantum computation with cavity QED systems
We propose a scheme for quantum computing using high-Q cavities in which the
qubits are represented by single cavity modes restricted in the space spanned
by the two lowest Fock states. We show that single qubit operations and
universal multiple qubit gates can be implemented using atoms sequentially
crossing the cavities.Comment: 14 pages, 8 figure
