The experiment was conducted at the experimental farm of the Federal University of Paraná, in February, 1998, and investigated the effect of the different Cynodon grasses structure at the horse grazing. The Cynodon spp. cv Tifton 85, Cynodon nlemfuensis cv Tifton 68, Cynodon spp. cv Tifton 44, Cynodon nlemfuensis (¨Porto Rico¨) and Cynodon nlemfuensis (¨Estrela Roxa¨) grasses were distributed in parcels with 12 m2 in a completely randomized split-plot design with four replications. The parcels were divided in two kinds of patches (tall and short) demonstrated by plants height. Five grazing tests were done with mares, evaluating the number of bites allocated in each treatment. The preference was evaluated by bite number and tiller grazed on each treatment. The bite depth was measured using 20 marked tillers in each experimental unit. The animals showed preference for Tifton 85, followed by Coastcross 1, Tifton 68 and Tifton 44. The star grasses ¨Estrela Roxa¨ and ¨Porto Rico¨ were not preferred.

Altres ajuts: INTERPRET (EU-IST1999-10310). This work was also partially funded by the Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red - Bioingeniería, Biomateriales y Nanomedicina, which is an initiative of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (Spain) co-funded by EU FEDER funds.MRI and MRS are established methodologies for evaluating intracranial lesions. One MR spectral feature suggested for in vivo grading of astrocytic tumours is the apparent myo-Inositol (mI) intensity (ca 3.55ppm) at short echo times, although glycine (gly) may also contribute in vivo to this resonance. The purpose of this study was to quantitatively evaluate the mI + gly contribution to the recorded spectral pattern in vivo and correlate it with in vitro data obtained from perchloric acid extraction of tumour biopsies. Patient spectra (n = 95) at 1.5T at short (20-31 ms) and long (135-136 ms) echo times were obtained from the INTERPRET MRS database (http://gabrmn.uab.es/interpretvalidateddb/). Phantom spectra were acquired with a comparable protocol. Spectra were automatically processed and the ratios of the (mI + gly) to Cr peak heights ((mI + gly)/Cr) calculated. Perchloric acid extracts of brain tumour biopsies were analysed by high-resolution NMR at 9.4T. The ratio (mI + gly)/Cr decreased significantly with astrocytic grade in vivo between low-grade astrocytoma (A2) and glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). In vitro results displayed a somewhat different tendency, with anaplastic astrocytomas having significantly higher (mI + gly)/Cr than A2 and GBM. The discrepancy between in vivo and in vitro data suggests that the NMR visibility of glycine in glial brain tumours is restricted in vivo

This paper was carried out in order to verify the effects of the clay, silt and sand soil fractions on zinc fixation by soils. Ten grams each of 30 samples of different soils were placed in a 250 ml Erlenmeyer flask and 4 ml of solution containing 100 mg of inert Zn and 0.70 mc of radioactive 65Zn were added. After 20 days of incubation, Zn was extracted with 20 ml of 0.01 M EDTA solution made 1 M with respect to (NH4)2CO3. An aliquot of 5 ml of the extract was transferred to a test-tube and radioactivity of 65Zn in it was measured with a scintillation counter. Quantity of fixed Zn by the different soils was calculated from the data obtained and counting made on the standard solution. It was concluded that clay and silt took part of the Zn fixation by the soil, but not the sand.

The purpose of this experiment was to verify the effects of some properties of the soil as pH, and the content of soluble phosphate and organic matter on the soil capacity to fix zinc. Ten grams each of 30 samples of different soils were placed in a 250 ml Erlenmeyer flask and 4 ml of solution containing 100 mg of inert zinc and 0.7 mcof radioactive 65Zn were added. After 20 days of incubation, Zn was extracted with 20 ml of 0.01 M EDTA solution made 1M respect to (NH4)2CO3. An aliquot of 5 ml of the extract was transferred to a test tub and radioactivity of 65 Zn in it was measured with a scintillation counter. Quantity of zinc fixed by the different soils was calculated from the data obtained and county made on the standard solution. It was concluded that the amount of zinc fixed by the soil was positively correlated with pH, soluble phosphate and organic matter content of the soils.

Raman Phonon Modes Of Zinc Blende Inxga1 - Xn Alloy Epitaxial Layers

Transverse-optical (TO) and longitudinal-optical (LO) phonons of zinc blende InxGa1 - xN (0≤x ≤0.31) layers are observed through first-order micro-Raman scattering experiments. The samples are grown by molecular-beam epitaxy on GaAs (001) substrates, and x-ray diffraction measurements are performed to determine the epilayer alloy composition. Both the TO and LO phonons exhibit a one-mode-type behavior, and their frequencies display a linear dependence on the composition. The Raman data reported here are used to predict the A1 (TO) and E1 (TO) phonon frequencies of the hexagonal InxGa1 - xN alloy. © 1999 American Institute of Physics.75810951097Pankove, J.I., Moustakas, T., Gallium nitrides I (1998) Semiconductors and Semimetals, 50. , Academic, San Diego, CAShan, W., Walukiewicz, W., Haller, E.E., Little, B.D., Song, J.J., McCluskey, M.D., Johnson, N.M., Stall, R.A., (1998) J.
