Structural, electrical, and optical characterization of as grown and oxidized zinc nitride thin films
Zinc Nitride (Zn3N2) films were grown by DC sputtering of a Zn target in a N2 plasma under a
variety of different growth conditions, which resulted in the deposition of films with variable
compositions. The as deposited films exhibited a polycrystalline Zn3N2 structure, which was
converted to a ZnO-based structure after several weeks of ambient exposure. Zn3N2 films that were
N-poor exhibited electrical properties indicative of a natively doped semiconductor and reached a
minimum carrier concentration in the order of 1018 cm3 at compositions, which approached the stoichiometric
ratio of Zn3N2. A maximum carrier mobility of 33 cm2 V1 s
1 was obtained in N-rich
films due to an improved microstructure. The Zn3N2 films had an optical band gap of 1.31–1.48 eV
and a refractive index of 2.3–2.7. Despite a wide range of Zn3N2 samples examined, little variation of
its optical properties was observed, which suggests that they are closely related to the band structure
of this material. In contrast to the as grown films, the oxidized film had a band gap of 3.44 eV and the
refractive index was 1.6–1.8, similar to ZnO and Zn(OH)2
Periodic and discrete Zak bases
Weyl's displacement operators for position and momentum commute if the
product of the elementary displacements equals Planck's constant. Then, their
common eigenstates constitute the Zak basis, each state specified by two phase
parameters. Upon enforcing a periodic dependence on the phases, one gets a
one-to-one mapping of the Hilbert space on the line onto the Hilbert space on
the torus. The Fourier coefficients of the periodic Zak bases make up the
discrete Zak bases. The two bases are mutually unbiased. We study these bases
in detail, including a brief discussion of their relation to Aharonov's modular
operators, and mention how they can be used to associate with the single degree

Magnetoresistive and magnetic properties of La0.67A0.33MnO3 (A= Ba, Ca, and Sr) prepared by co-precipitation method.
We have prepared perovskite structured La0.67A0.33MnO3 manganite (A = Ba, Ca and Sr) using co-precipitation method. The samples were characterized using x-ray
diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) to identify the structure and microstructure. The magnetic and magnetoresistance properties were measured by vibrations sample magnetometer (VSM) and four point probe methods. From the XRD spectrum, samples are in single phase pervoskite structure where LBMO and LCMO showed orthorhombic whereas LSMO has rhombohedral phase. LSMO has average grain size range of 0.5μm -2.5μm. However, for LBMO and LCMO, the grain boundaries are not well define and connected. The difference in the microstructure image might be due to the different activation energy and variance A-site cation that differs in grain growth. The Curie temperature of LBMO and LSMO are 343K and 371K, respectively. LCMO system gives the highest CMR value (-10.1% at 1 tesla) at room temperature. A significantly low field magnetoresistance effect (LFMR) which is
-13.9% (at 0.1T, 90K) has been observed in LBMO and this LFMR effect is believed to be due to the disorder layers at the grain boundaries in the samples
A Multidimensional Rasch Analysis of the Functional Independence Measure Based on the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research Traumatic Brain Injury Model Systems National Database
A number of studies have evaluated the psychometric properties of the Functional Independence Measure (FIM™) using Rasch analysis, although none has done so using the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research Traumatic Brain Injury Model Systems National Database, a longitudinal database that captures demographic and outcome information on persons with moderate to severe traumatic brain injury across the United States. In the current study, we examine the psychometric properties of the FIM as represented by persons within this database and demonstrate that the FIM comprises three subscales representing cognitive, self-care, and mobility domains. These subscales were analyzed simultaneously using a multivariate Rasch model in combination with a time dependent concurrent calibration scheme with the goal of creating a raw score-to-logit transformation that can be used to improve the accuracy of parametric statistical analyses. The bowel and bladder function items were removed because of misfit with the motor and cognitive items. Some motor items exhibited step disorder, which was addressed by collapsing Categories 1-3 for Toileting, Stairs, Locomotion, Tub/Shower Transfers; Categories 1 and 2 for Toilet and Bed Transfers; and Categories 2 and 3 for Grooming. The strong correlations (r = 0.82-0.96) among the three subscales suggest they should be modeled together. Coefficient alpha of 0.98 indicates high internal consistency. Generation Of 20 Mw Of Blue Laser-Radiation From A Diode-Pumped Sum-Frequency Laser
Resonant intracavity sum-frequency mixing of a diode-pumped Nd:yAG laser and a 100 mW single stripe laser diode, has been used to generate a measured output power of 20 mW of blue laser radiation at 459 nm. This represents a total conversion efficiency of approximately 68% of the single stripe laser diode power incident on the cavity. The laser was also demonstrated to operate over a tuning range of 12 nm via angle tuning of the nonlinear crystal
Lamellipodium extension and membrane ruffling require different SNARE-mediated trafficking pathways
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Intracellular membrane traffic is an essential component of the membrane remodeling that supports lamellipodium extension during cell adhesion. The membrane trafficking pathways that contribute to cell adhesion have not been fully elucidated, but recent studies have implicated SNARE proteins. Here, the functions of several SNAREs (SNAP23, VAMP3, VAMP4 and syntaxin13) are characterized during the processes of cell spreading and membrane ruffling.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>We report the first description of a SNARE complex, containing SNAP23, syntaxin13 and cellubrevin/VAMP3, that is induced by cell adhesion to an extracellular matrix. Impairing the function of the SNAREs in the complex using inhibitory SNARE domains disrupted the recycling endosome, impeded delivery of integrins to the cell surface, and reduced haptotactic cell migration and spreading. Blocking SNAP23 also inhibited the formation of PMA-stimulated, F-actin-rich membrane ruffles; however, membrane ruffle formation was not significantly altered by inhibition of VAMP3 or syntaxin13. In contrast, membrane ruffling, and not cell spreading, was sensitive to inhibition of two SNAREs within the biosynthetic secretory pathway, GS15 and VAMP4. Consistent with this, formation of a complex containing VAMP4 and SNAP23 was enhanced by treatment of cells with PMA. The results reveal a requirement for the function of a SNAP23-syntaxin13-VAMP3 complex in the formation of lamellipodia during cell adhesion and of a VAMP4-SNAP23-containing complex during PMA-induced membrane ruffling.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Our findings suggest that different SNARE-mediated trafficking pathways support membrane remodeling during ECM-induced lamellipodium extension and PMA-induced ruffle formation, pointing to important mechanistic differences between these processes.</p
Management of Complications Caused By a Massive Left Ventricle Tumor in a Neonate
We report a case of a neonate born with a giant fibroma occupying the entirety of her left ventricle. Due to the extensive resection, her postoperative course was complicated by severely diminished left ventricular function and complete heart block necessitating extracorporeal support. Ultimately, cardiac resynchronization therapy was employed, after which the infant’s ventricular function gradually improved and she was successfully discharged to home

Soliton switching using cascaded nonlinear-optical loop mirrors
We demonstrate multiple-peaked switching in a nonlinear-optical loop mirror and present an experimental investigation of device cascading in the soliton regime based on a sequence of two independent nonlinear-optical loop mirrors. Cascading leads to an enhanced switching response with sharper switching edges, flattened peaks, and increased interpeak extinction ratios. We observe that pulses emerging from the cascade retain the sech2 temporal profile of a soliton with minimal degradation in the spectral characteristics
The effects of changes in the order of verbal labels and numerical values on children's scores on attitude and rating scales
Research with adults has shown that variations in verbal labels and numerical scale values on rating scales can affect the responses given. However, few studies have been conducted with children. The study aimed to examine potential differences in children’s responses to Likert-type rating scales according to their anchor points and scale direction, and to see whether or not such differences were stable over time. 130 British children, aged 9 to 11, completed six sets of Likert-type rating scales, presented in four different ways varying the position of positive labels and numerical values. The results showed, both initially and 8-12 weeks later, that presenting a positive label or a high score on the left of a scale led to significantly higher mean scores than did the other variations. These findings indicate that different arrangements of rating scales can produce different results which has clear implications for the administration of scales with children
