    A class of Hamilton-Jacobi equations on Banach-Finsler manifolds

    The concept of subdifferentiability is studied in the context of C1C^1 Finsler manifolds (modeled on a Banach space with a Lipschitz C1C^1 bump function). A class of Hamilton-Jacobi equations defined on C1C^1 Finsler manifolds is studied and several results related to the existence and uniqueness of viscosity solutions are obtained.Comment: 24 page

    L'objectiu principal d'aquest treball pràctic de laboratori, dirigit als estudiants de batxillerat, és poder identificar l'hemoglobina, entre altres compostos que es podrien trobar a l'escena d'un crim: albúmina, glucosa o lleixiu. Per això s'utilitzen dues reaccions: la reacció de Bradford, que identifica les proteïnes (hemoglobina i albúmina), i la reacció del luminol, que dóna positiu per l'hemoglobina i també pel lleixiu. Aquest resultat ens permet, a més, discutir l'existència d'interferències a les reaccions químiques.The aim of this laboratory practical work, which is directed towards high school students, is to distinguish among four different samples which could that can be found in a crime scene: albumin, glucose, hemoglobin and bleach. Two reactions are used: the luminol reaction (positive for bleach and hemoglobin) and the Bradford reaction (which allows identification of both proteins: hemoglobin and albumin). The luminol reaction can also be used also to discuss about interferences found in chemical reactions

Several studies suggest that an increase of nocturia is seen with the onset of age, occurring in around 70% of adults over the age of 70. Its appearance is associated with detrimental quality of life for those who present nocturia, since it leads to daytime sleepiness, cognitive dysfunction, among others. Currently, a voiding diary is necessary for nocturia assessment; these are prone to bias due to their inherent subjectivity. In this paper, we present the design of a low-cost device that automatically detects micturition events. The device obtained 73% in sensibility and 81% in specificity; these results show that systems such as the proposed one can be a valuable tool for the medical team when evaluating nocturia. © 2013 IEEE.https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/845445

Unfortunately, this can generate physical and psychological damage, especially if they live alone and they are unable to get help. In this field, several studies have been performed aiming to alert potential falls of the older people by using different types of sensors and algorithms. In this paper, we present a novel non-invasive monitoring system for fall detection in older people who live alone. Our proposal is using very-low-resolution thermal sensors for classifying a fall and then alerting to the care staff. Also, we analyze the performance of three recurrent neural networks for fall detections: Long short-term memory (LSTM), gated recurrent unit, and Bi-LSTM. As many learning algorithms, we have performed a training phase using different test subjects. After several tests, we can observe that the Bi-LSTM approach overcome the others techniques reaching a 93% of accuracy in fall detection. We believe that the bidirectional way of the Bi-LSTM algorithm gives excellent results because the use of their data is influenced by prior and new information, which compares to LSTM and GRU.     Combined Nonlinear Analysis of Atrial and Ventricular Series for Automated Screening of Atrial Fibrillation

    [EN] Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia in clinical practice. It often starts with asymptomatic and short episodes, which are difficult to detect without the assistance of automatic monitoring tools. The vast majority of methods proposed for this purpose are based on quantifying the irregular ventricular response (i.e., RR series) during the arrhythmia. However, although AF totally alters the atrial activity (AA) reflected on the electrocardiogram(ECG), replacing stable P-waves by chaotic and time-variant fibrillatory waves, this information has still not been explored for automated screening of AF. Hence, a pioneering AF detector based on quantifying the variability over time of the AA morphological pattern is here proposed. Results from two public reference databases have proven that the proposed method outperforms current state-of-the-art algorithms, reporting accuracy higher than 90%. A less false positive rate in the presence of other arrhythmias different from AF was also noticed. Finally, the combination of this algorithm with the classical analysis of RR series variability also yielded a promising trade-off between AF accuracy and detection delay.     Microbial Degradation of Gasoline in Soil: Effect of Season of Sampling

    In cases where fire debris contains soil, microorganisms can rapidly and irreversibly alter the chemical composition of any ignitable liquid residue that may be present. In this study, differences in microbial degradation due to the season in which the sample is collected was examined. Soil samples were collected from the same site during Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer and the degradation of gasoline was monitored over 30 days. Predominant viable bacterial populations enumerated using real-time PCR and reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) enumeration revealed the predominant viable bacterial genera to be Alcaligenes, Bacillus, and Flavobacterium. Overall, the compounds most vulnerable to microbial degradation are the n-alkanes, followed by the mono-substituted alkylbenzenes (e.g., toluene, ethylbenzene, propylbenzene and isopropylbenzene). Benzaldehyde (a degradation product of toluene) was also identified as a marker for the extent of biodegradation. Ultimately, it was determined that soil collected during an unusually hot and dry summer exhibited the least degradation with little to no change in gasoline for up to 4 days, readily detectable n-alkanes for up to 7 days and relatively high levels of resilient compounds such as o-xylene, p-xylene and 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene. These results demonstrate, however, that prompt preservation and/or analysis of soil evidence is required in order to properly classify an ignitable liquid residue
