B Mixing and Lifetimes at the Tevatron
The Tevatron collider at Fermilab provides a very rich environment for the
study of b-hadrons. Both the D0 and CDF experiments have collected a sample of
about 1 fb^{-1}. We report results on three topics: b-hadron lifetimes,
polarization amplitudes and the decay width difference in Bs to Jpsi Phi, and
Bs mixing.Comment: Flavor Physics & CP Violation Conference, Vancouver, 200
Hironaka's characteristic polygon and effective resolution of surfaces
Hironaka's concept of characteristic polyhedron of a singularity has been one
of the most powerful and fruitful ideas of the last decades in singularity
theory. In fact, since then combinatorics have become a major tool in many
important results. However, this seminal concept is still not enough to cope
with some effective problems: for instance, giving a bound on the maximum
number of blowing--ups to be performed on a surface before its multiplicity
decreases. This short note shows why such a bounding is not possible, at least
with the original definitions.Comment: 7 pages, 1 figur
Equimultiple Locus of Embedded Algebroid Surfaces and Blowing–up in Characteristic Zero
2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: 14B05, 32S25.The smooth equimultiple locus of embedded algebroid surfaces
appears naturally in many resolution processes, both classical and modern.
In this paper we explore how it changes by blowing–up.* Supported by FQM 304 and BFM 2000–1523.

Geographic Variation in Wood Properties of Pinus Tecunumanii
Wood properties of Pinus tecunumanii were studied on 108 trees collected from four different departments of Guatemala (Baja Verapaz, Zacapa, Totonicapán, and El Quiché). Unextracted and extracted specific gravities were calculated from 108 Cores (one per tree) of 4.5 mm diameter. The specific gravity varied from 0.51 to 0.56 with a weak decreasing trend from east to west. Most of the extractives were found in the core segment closest to the pith. Tracheid measurements were recorded on 11-mm cores from Baja Verapaz and Zacapa with tracheid length, cell-wall thickness, lumen width, and tracheid diameter being recorded. With the exception of tracheid length, all the measured cell characteristics showed highly statistical differences between locations and among trees. Most of the variation was within and between trees. Tracheid diameter and lumen width were highly correlated. The wood of the Tecun Umán pine showed extreme variability, especially in tracheid dimensions. Overall, however, the wood of this species is quite usable for both solid wood and pulp products
Global Collective Intelligence in Technological Societies: as a result of Collaborative Knowledge in combination with Artificial Intelligence
The big influence of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), especially in area of construction of Technological Societies has generated big social changes. That is visible in the way of relating to people in different environments. These changes have the possibility to expand the frontiers of knowledge through sharing and cooperation. That has meaning the inherently creation of a new form of Collaborative Knowledge. The potential of this Collaborative Knowledge has been given through ICT in combination with Artificial Intelligence processes, from where is obtained a Collective Knowledge. When this kind of knowledge is shared, it gives the place to the Global Collective Intelligence
Women and sport in films in twenty-first century (2000-2009)
For this purpose we analysed a sample of 74 films that were selected through a non-probability quota sampling and using a descriptive investigation model. The sample was determined by way of content analysis. The results showed that the films reflected the current sports model, as well as the modern female stereotypes. This should help to question the current model shown in these types of film
