Pairing-excitation versus intruder states in 68Ni and 90Zr
A discussion on the nature of the 0+ states in 68Ni (Z=28, N=40) is presented
and a comparison is made with its valence counterpart 90Zr (Z=40, N=50).
Evidence is given for a 0+ proton intruder state at only ~2.2 MeV excitation
energy in 68Ni, while the analogous neutron intruder states in 90Zr reside at
4126 keV and 5441 keV. The application of a shell-model description of 0+
intruder states reveals that many pair-scattered neutrons across N=40 have to
be involved to explain the low excitation energy of the proton-intruder
configuration in 68Ni.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figures, 1 tabl

Guide For Recommended Practices To Perform Crack Tip Opening Displacement Tests In High Strength Low Alloy Steels
Fracture mechanics approach is important for all mechanical and civil projects that might involve cracks in metallic materials, and especially for those using welding as a structural joining process. This methodology can enhance not only the design but also the service life of the structures being constructed. This paper includes detailed consideration of several practical issues related to the experimental procedures to assess the fracture toughness in high strength low alloy steels (HSLA) using the crack tip opening displacement (CTOD) parameter, specifically pipeline steels for oil and gas transportation. These considerations are important for engineers who are new in the field, or for those looking for guidelines performing different procedures during the experimentation, which usually are difficult to understand from the conventional standards. We discuss on topics including geometry selection, number of replicate tests, fatigue precracking, test procedure selection and realization, reports of results and other aspects.213290302Colciencias [512]PetrobrasLNNano/CNPE
Physiological and Psychological Effects of Short-Term Recreational Football in Adults 60+
Recreational football has shown growing evidence that it could be played safely in adults aged 60+ and that it is physically beneficial. Less is known about the psychological aspects, except for the lived experiences of players. The aim of the present study was to analyze both physiological and psychological effects of short-term recreational football. Fifteen participants took part in a six-week training program of recreational football played at a walking pace with two sessions of 1 h and 30 m per week. Physical fitness was assessed before and after the training period and psychological questionnaires were given at the same time. Body mass and body mass index were significantly decreased, but no other significant effects were found on physical fitness. Participants experienced less frustration related to psychological needs (autonomy and competence). Six weeks were too short to observe significant physical improvements while psychological benefits were already experienced. In this short period, psychological aspects seem predominant. These effects may encourage to long-term adhesion. The activity has the potential to keep adults 60+ exercising, which is important for maintaining good global health and seeing physical changes later
The Effect of 12-Weeks Recreational Football (Soccer) for Health Intervention on Functional Movement in Older Adults
There is growing evidence that recreational football offers health benefits for older adults
and an important pathway for physical activity for older adult groups. Despite anecdotal evidence that recreational football is beneficial for older adults, no empirical data are available to support this assertion. This study addressed this issue and examined the effects of a 12âweek recreational football intervention on the functional fitness of older adults. Using a preâpost caseâcontrol design, thirteen males, aged 61â73 years (mean age ± SD = 66 ± 4 years) undertook a twiceâweekly, 12âweek recreational football for health intervention, and were matched with a control group, comprising thirteen males, aged 62â78 years (mean age ± SD = 66 ± 4 years) who maintained their typical exercise habits during the intervention period. Preâ and postintervention, participants underwent assessment of functional fitness, using the Rikli and Jones functional fitness battery as well as an assessment of body fatness, via bioelectrical impedance analysis and dominant handgrip strength using handgrip dynamometry. Results from a series of 2 (preâpost) X 2 (intervention vs. control) repeatedâmeasures ANOVAs indicate significant preâpost X group interactions for the 30âsecond chair stand (p = 0.038, PÆ2 = 0.168), 8âfoot timed up and go (p = 0.001, PÆ2 = 0.577) and 6 min walk test (p = 0.036, PÆ2 = 0.171). In all cases, performance improved significantly after the intervention for the football intervention group but not the control group. There were no significant differences in the 30 s arm curl
test or dominant handgrip strength (p > 0.05). There was a nonâsignificant trend (p = 0.07, PÆ2 = 0.127) towards a preâpost X group interaction for body fatness, showing a decreased percent body fat for the intervention group over the control group. The results of the present study demonstrate the utility of recreational football as a physical activity intervention in older adults to improve functional movement
Shape coexistence at the proton drip-line: First identification of excited states in 180Pb
Excited states in the extremely neutron-deficient nucleus, 180Pb, have been
identified for the first time using the JUROGAM II array in conjunction with
the RITU recoil separator at the Accelerator Laboratory of the University of
Jyvaskyla. This study lies at the limit of what is presently achievable with
in-beam spectroscopy, with an estimated cross-section of only 10 nb for the
92Mo(90Zr,2n)180Pb reaction. A continuation of the trend observed in 182Pb and
184Pb is seen, where the prolate minimum continues to rise beyond the N=104
mid-shell with respect to the spherical ground state. Beyond mean-field
calculations are in reasonable correspondence with the trends deduced from
experiment.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, submitted to Phys.Rev.
First observation of excited states in 173Hg
The neutron-deficient nucleus 173Hg has been studied following
fusion-evaporation reactions. The observation of gamma rays decaying from
excited states are reported for the first time and a tentative level scheme is
proposed. The proposed level scheme is discussed within the context of the
systematics of neighbouring neutron-deficient Hg nuclei. In addition to the
gamma-ray spectroscopy, the alpha decay of this nucleus has been measured
yielding superior precision to earlier measurements.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Search for Fingerprints of Tetrahedral Symmetry in
Theoretical predictions suggest the presence of tetrahedral symmetry as an
explanation for the vanishing intra-band E2-transitions at the bottom of the
odd-spin negative parity band in . The present study reports on
experiment performed to address this phenomenon. It allowed to determine the
intra-band E2 transitions and branching ratios B(E2)/B(E1) of two of the
negative-parity bands in .Comment: presented by Q.T. Doan at XLII Zakopane School of Physics: Breaking
