Bell's inequality and the coincidence-time loophole
This paper analyzes effects of time-dependence in the Bell inequality. A
generalized inequality is derived for the case when coincidence and
non-coincidence [and hence whether or not a pair contributes to the actual
data] is controlled by timing that depends on the detector settings. Needless
to say, this inequality is violated by quantum mechanics and could be violated
by experimental data provided that the loss of measurement pairs through
failure of coincidence is small enough, but the quantitative bound is more
restrictive in this case than in the previously analyzed "efficiency loophole."Comment: revtex4, 3 figures, v2: epl document class, reformatted w slight

Mobile Audiovisual Terminal: System Design and Subjective Testing in DECT and UMTS networks
It is anticipated that there will shortly be a requirement
for multimedia terminals that operate via mobile
communications systems. This paper presents a functional specification
for such a terminal operating at 32 kb/s in a digital
European cordless telecommunications (DECT) and universal
mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) radio network. A terminal
has been built, based on a PC with digital signal processor
(DSP) boards for audio and video coding and decoding. Speech
coding is by a phonetically driven code-excited linear prediction
(CELP) speech coder and video coding by a block-oriented hybrid
discrete cosine transform (DCT) coder. Separate channel coding
is provided for the audio and video data. The paper describes the
techniques used for audio and video coding, channel coding, and
synchronization. Methods of subjective testing in a DECT network
and in a UMTS network are also described. These consisted of
subjective tests of first impressions of the mobile audioâvisual
terminal (MAVT) quality, interactive tests, and the completion
of an exit questionnaire. The test results showed that the quality
of the audio was sufficiently good for comprehension and the
video was sufficiently good for following and repeating simple
mechanical tasks. However, the quality of the MAVT was not
good enough for general use where high-quality audio and video
was needed, especially when transmission was in a noisy radio
environment
Eudaimonic Pathways of Activating Compassion Reduce Vulnerabilities to Paranoia
This study aimed to identify if compassion benefits paranoia and, if so what type of compassion. Following a series of different compassionate exercises in 104 participants it was found that mindfulness approaches were the most significant in reducing paranoia suggesting a new approach for psychological problems characterised by paranoia

Mediated intimacy: Sex advice in media culture
The bold argument of Mediated Intimacy (Barker et al., 2018)1 is that media of various kinds play an increasingly important role in shaping peopleâs knowledge, desires, practices and expectations about intimate relationships. While arguments rage about the nature and content of sex and relationship education in schools, it is becoming clear that more and more of us â young and old â look not to formal education, or even to our friends, for information about sex, but to the media (Albury, 2016; Attwood et al., 2015). This is not simply a matter of media âadviceâ in the form of self-help books, magazine problem pages, or online âagonyâ columns â though these are all proliferating and are discussed at length in the book. It is also about the wider cultural habitat of images, ideas and discourses about intimacy that circulate through and across media: the âhappy endingsâ of romantic comedies; the âmoney shotsâ of pornography; the celebrity gossip about who is seeing whom, who is âcheatingâ, and who is looking âhotâ; the lifestyle TV about âembarrassing bodiesâ or being âundateableâ; the newspaper features on how to have a âgoodâ divorce or âten things never to say on a first dateâ; the new apps that incite us to quantify and rate our sex lives, and so forth. These constitute the âtaken for grantedâ of everyday understandings of intimacy, and they are at the heart of Mediated Intimacy

Repeatability Analysis of 304L Deposition by the LENSÂź Process
Sandia National Laboratories is currently engaging in an effort to qualify Laser Engineered Net
Shapingâą (LENSÂź) as a repair and modification process for high rigor metal components. As
part of that effort, the LENS team has conducted a process repeatability test to help identify
variation within the system. This test utilized 304L stainless steel which is a commonly used
material at Sandia. Over the course of 12 weeks, 3/8âx3/8âx2â towers were built in sets of 3
with a total of 30 towers completed. A random sampling of 10 of these towers (1 from each set
of 3) had been identified before depositing the towers, and these towers were used for tensile
testing and metallographic testing. The testing showed the ultimate and yield strengths of all
samples to be well above those of annealed 304L. This is expected because of the rapid melt
pool solidification present in the LENS process and the resulting grain refinement. The ductility,
which usually remains on par with annealed 304L, was found to be lower. The final cause of this
loss of ductility was determined to be inter-layer separation due to loose wires in the closed loop
melt pool control system.Englis
