Controlled Heterometallic Composition in Linear Trinuclear [LnCeLn] Lanthanide Molecular Assemblies.
The combination of two different β-diketone ligands facilitates the size-controlled assembly of pure heterometallic [LnLn'Ln] linear compounds thanks to two different coordination sites present in the molecular scaffold. [HoCeHo], [ErCeEr], and [YbCeYb] analogues are presented here and are characterized both in the solid state and in solution, demonstrating the selectivity of this unique method to produce heterometallic 4f molecular entities
A Descent Method for Equality and Inequality Constrained Multiobjective Optimization Problems
In this article we propose a descent method for equality and inequality
constrained multiobjective optimization problems (MOPs) which generalizes the
steepest descent method for unconstrained MOPs by Fliege and Svaiter to
constrained problems by using two active set strategies. Under some regularity
assumptions on the problem, we show that accumulation points of our descent
method satisfy a necessary condition for local Pareto optimality. Finally, we
show the typical behavior of our method in a numerical example
Development of a PIGE-Detection System for In-situ Inspection and Quality Assurance in the Evolution of Fast Rotating Parts in High Temperature Environment Manufactured From TiAl
Intermetallic γ-titanium aluminides are a promising material in high temperature technologies. Their high specific strength at temperatures above 700°C offers the possibility for their use as components of aerospace and automotive industries. With a specific weight of 50% of that of the widely used Ni-based superalloys TiAl is very suitable as material for fast rotating parts like turbine blades in aircraft engines and land based power stations or turbocharger rotors. Thus lower mechanical stresses and a reduced fuel consumption and CO2-emission are expected. To overcome the insufficient oxidation protection the halogen effect offers an innovative way. After surface doping using F-implantation or liquid phase-treatment with an F-containing solution and subsequent oxidation at high temperatures the formation of a protective alumina scale can be achieved. By using non-destructive ion beam analyses (PIGE, RBS) F was found at the metal/oxide interface. For analysis of large scale components a new vacuum chamber at the IKF was installed and became operative. With this prototype of in-situ quality assurance system for the F-doping of manufactured parts from TiAl some performance test measurements were done and presented in this paper.Received: 01 March 2013; Revised: 24 April 2013; Accepted: 25 April 201
The J- and H-bands of dye aggregate spectra: Analysis of the coherent exciton scattering (CES) approximation
The validity of the CES approximation is investigated by comparison with
direct diagonalisation of a model vibronic Hamiltonian of identical
monomers interacting electronically. Even for quite short aggregates (N\gtrsim
6) the CES approximation is shown to give results in agreement with direct
diagonalisation, for all coupling strengths, except that of intermediate
positive coupling (the H-band region). However, previously excellent agreement
of CES calculations and measured spectra in the H-band region was obtained [A.
Eisfeld, J. S. Briggs, Chem. Phys. 324, 376]. This is shown to arise from use
of the measured monomer spectrum which includes implicitly dissipative effects
not present in the model calculation
Efficient determination of cysteine sulphoxides in Allium plants applying new biosensor and HPLC-MS² methods
Cysteine sulphoxide (CSO) contents of 16 different accessions of garlic (Allium sativum L.) and 15 varieties of onion (Allium cepa L.) were measured using two different rapid analytical methods: a biosensoric approach and a newly developed HPLC-MS2 technique. Both methods allow quantification of naturally occurring cysteine sulphoxides present in Allium plants without time-consuming sample pretreatment such as derivatisation of amino acid derivatives prior to HPLC-separation. It has been found that the amount of alliin, which is the predominant CSO occurring in garlic, varies between 0.2 and 2.2 g/100 g dry matter. Contrary to that, isoalliin representing the main CSO in onion has been detected in significantly lower amounts (0.3 to 1.25 g/100 g dry matter)
Perturbation theory for ac-driven interfaces in random media
We study -dimensional elastic manifolds driven by ac-forces in a
disordered environment using a perturbation expansion in the disorder strength
and the mean-field approximation. We find, that for perturbation
theory produces non-regular terms that grow unboundedly in time. The origin of
these non-regular terms is explained. By using a graphical representation we
argue that the perturbation expansion is regular to all orders for .
Moreover, for the corresponding mean-field problem we prove that ill-behaved
diagrams can be resummed in a way, that their unbounded parts mutually cancel.
Our analytical results are supported by numerical investigations. Furthermore,
we conjecture the scaling of the Fourier coefficients of the mean velocity with

Simultaneous Detection of Longitudinal and Transverse Bunch Signals at a Storage Ring
To understand and control the dynamics in the longitudinal phase space,
time-resolved measurements of different bunch parameters are required. For a
reconstruction of this phase space, the detector systems have to be
synchronized. This reconstruction can be used e.g. for studies of the
micro-bunching instability. It occurs if the interaction of the bunch with its
own radiation leads to the formation of sub-structures on the longitudinal
bunch profile. These sub-structures can grow rapidly -- leading to a
sawtooth-like behaviour of the bunch. At KARA, we use a fast-gated intensified
camera for energy spread studies, Schottky diodes for coherent synchrotron
radiation studies as well as electro-optical spectral decoding for longitudinal
bunch profile measurements. For a synchronization, a hardware synchronization
scheme is used which compensates for eventual hardware delays. In this paper,
the different experimental setups and their synchronization are discussed and
first results of synchronous measurements are presented
Data Centric Domain Adaptation for Historical Text with OCR Errors
We propose new methods for in-domain and cross-domain Named Entity Recognition (NER) on historical data for Dutch and French. For the cross-domain case, we address domain shift by integrating unsupervised in-domain data via contextualized string embeddings; and OCR errors by injecting synthetic OCR errors into the source domain and address data centric domain adaptation. We propose a general approach to imitate OCR errors in arbitrary input data. Our cross-domain as well as our in-domain results outperform several strong baselines and establish state-of-the-art results. Multi-criteria multi-stakeholder decision analysis using a fuzzy-stochastic approach for hydrosystem management
The conventional methods used to solve multi-criteria multi-stakeholder problems are less strongly formulated, as they normally incorporate only homogeneous information at a time and suggest aggregating objectives of different decision-makers avoiding water–society interactions. In this contribution, Multi-Criteria Group Decision Analysis (MCGDA) using a fuzzy-stochastic approach has been proposed to rank a set of alternatives in water management decisions incorporating heterogeneous information under uncertainty. The decision making framework takes hydrologically, environmentally, and socio-economically motivated conflicting objectives into consideration. The criteria related to the performance of the physical system are optimized using multi-criteria simulation-based optimization, and fuzzy linguistic quantifiers have been used to evaluate subjective criteria and to assess stakeholders' degree of optimism. The proposed methodology is applied to find effective and robust intervention strategies for the management of a coastal hydrosystem affected by saltwater intrusion due to excessive groundwater extraction for irrigated agriculture and municipal use. Preliminary results show that the MCGDA based on a fuzzy-stochastic approach gives useful support for robust decision-making and is sensitive to the decision makers' degree of optimism
