Cost of Production Loss for Long-term Disability due to Road Crashes
Traffic accidents leave lifelong after-effects and if the victim is disabled, they produce a production loss due to the differential in income that will be lost. This average value is very divergent in European countries, although there is consensus on cost components and valuation methods. However, many countries have legally standardised financial compensation so that it is calculated objectively and equitably for all those affected. This paper sets out the procedure for standardising the lost production cost of incapacitated road accident victims. An actuarial methodology relating to known inputs (age and salary) is used to obtain economic compensation for lost productivity. General principles and hypotheses are provided, and cases that require particular valuation are located. The standard cost thus calculated allows a homogeneous, fair and equitable compensation for all those involved in similar circumstances.</p
Developing nutrition-sensitive value chains in Indonesia
In Indonesia’s eastern Maluku and North Maluku provinces, malnutrition levels are high. Nutrition challenges include monotonous diets with inadequate levels of energy, micronutrients and protein. Studies commissioned by IFAD suggest that strengthened value chains for foods such as bananas, cassava, maize, spinach, sweet potatoes and fish could make business sense for smallholders and lay the foundations for a strong local food system that sustainably delivers nutritious foods for healthy diets. With funding from the German and Canadian governments, IFAD recently carried out a set of studies to determine how to design nutrition-sensitive value chain (NSVC) projects for smallholders. Such projects seek to shape the development of value chains for nutritious commodities in ways that are more likely to address nutrition problems. Investments that increase availability and affordability and promote consumption of nutritious foods, including biofortified or underconsumed varieties; provide extension services as well as nutrition education and behaviour change communications; and improve efficiency of market links and processing could increase incomes of women and men, reduce food losses and increase food safety, while also improving nutritional outcomes, largely through improved diets. Interventions that span multiple value chains can help to diversify and improve the overall quality of the diet
High-performance functional renormalization group calculations for interacting fermions
We derive a novel computational scheme for functional Renormalization Group
(fRG) calculations for interacting fermions on 2D lattices. The scheme is based
on the exchange parametrization fRG for the two-fermion interaction, with
additional insertions of truncated partitions of unity. These insertions
decouple the fermionic propagators from the exchange propagators and lead to a
separation of the underlying equations. We demonstrate that this separation is
numerically advantageous and may pave the way for refined, large-scale
computational investigations even in the case of complex multiband systems.
Furthermore, on the basis of speedup data gained from our implementation, it is
shown that this new variant facilitates efficient calculations on a large
number of multi-core CPUs. We apply the scheme to the , Hubbard model on
a square lattice to analyze the convergence of the results with the bond length
of the truncation of the partition of unity. In most parameter areas, a fast
convergence can be observed. Finally, we compare to previous results in order
to relate our approach to other fRG studies.Comment: 26 pages, 9 figure
Contour Temperature Programmed Desorption for Monitoring Multiple Chemical Reaction Products
A simple method for obtaining a comprehensive overview of major compounds desorbing from the surface during temperature programmed desorption (TPD) experiments is outlined. Standard commercially available equipment is used to perform the experiment. The method is particularly valuable when high molecular mass compounds are being studied. The acquisition of contour temperature programmed desorption (CTPD) spectra, sampling 50-dalton mass ranges at a time in the thermal desorption experiments, is described and demonstrated for the interaction of benzotriazole adsorbed on a Ni(111) surface. Conventional two-dimensional TPD spectra can be extracted from the CTPD by taking vertical slices of the contour
Rethinking social welfare in Spain: a basic pension for everyone
This study proposes a general aid system based on a mixed
financing model in Spain. To that end, it proposes that the different
aids available be merged into a single scheme to avoid duplications.
The proposed financial model factors in the tax base of
the unified aids on the one hand and the contributory part of
social insurance on the other. The main conclusion is that the
proposal is feasible, so long as a reform of the contributory aid
system is undertaken
On the energy of symmetric matrices and Coulson's integral formula
We dene the outer energy of a real symmetric matrix M for the eigenvalues λ1, …, λn of M and their arithmetic mean λ(M). We discuss the properties of the outer energy in contrast to the inner energy defined as Einn(M) = ∑ni = 1 |λi|. We prove that Einn is the maximum among the energy functions e: S(n) → R and Eout among functions f(M - λ(M)1n), where f is an energy function. We prove a variant of the Coulson integral formula for the outer energy
