Spatio-temporal characterisation of a 100 kHz 24 W sub-3-cycle NOPCPA laser system
In recent years, OPCPA and NOPCPA laser systems have shown the potential to supersede Ti:sapphire plus post-compression based laser systems to drive next generation attosecond light sources via direct amplification of few-cycle pulses to high pulse energies at high repetition rates. In this paper, we present a sub 3-cycle, 100 kHz, 24 W NOPA laser system and characterise its spatio-temporal properties using the SEA-F-SPIDER technique. Our results underline the importance of spatio-temporal diagnostics for these emerging laser systems
The Ochodaeidae of Argentina (Coleoptera, Scarabaeoidea)
The Ochodaeidae (Coleoptera: Scarabaeoidea) of Argentina are revised. Previously, two species of Ochodaeinae were known from the country, both in the genus Parochodaeus Nikolajev: P. campsognathus (Arrow) and P. cornutus (Ohaus). An additional 7 species of Parochodaeus from Argentina are described here as new. In addition, Gauchodaeus patagonicus, new genus and new species in the subfamily Chaetocanthinae, is described. "is is the #rst record of the subfamily Chaetocanthinae in South America. Redescriptions, diagnoses, and maps are provided for each species. We also provide a key to genera and a key to species of Parochodaeus of Argentina. With this work, the number of ochodaeid species known from Argentina is increased from 2 to 10.Fil: Paulsen, M. J.. Problemy integratsii religioznykh men'shinstv: keysy Evropeyskogo Soyuza i Rossiyskoy Federatsii = The challenges of the integration of religious minorities: case studies in the EU and Russian Federation
This article provides a critical examination and comparison of the contemporary position of three religious minorities: the Muslims in Glasgow; the Sikhs in Novellara and the Kryashens in Tatarstan. This is initially accomplished through an overview of the socio-economic, cultural and political impact of the religious minorities as three important case studies and through their relationship with the dominant form of religion and religious identity. The article will then analyse this information and these relationships using two lenses. First, we will use the four types of claims for recognition proposed by Koenig (2015): (1) claims for recognition of difference (2); claims for more autonomy in public spheres (3); claims for tolerance and (4) call for greater recognition for equal participation in organization of the state. Second, we will use the four acculturation strategies proposed by Berry (1997): (1) integration; (2) assimilation; (3) separation; and (4) marginalisation. The article will conclude with some final comments on gender and youth
Lateral Chirality-sorting Optical Spin Forces in Evanescent Fields
The transverse component of the spin angular momentum of evanescent waves
gives rise to lateral optical forces on chiral particles, which have the
unusual property of acting in a direction in which there is neither a field
gradient nor wave propagation. As their direction and strength depends on the
chiral polarizability of the particle, they act as chirality-sorting and may
offer a mechanism for passive chirality spectroscopy. The absolute strength of
the forces also substantially exceeds that of other recently predicted sideways
optical forces, such that they may more readily offer an experimental
confirmation of the phenomenon.Comment: 7 pages, 2 Figure
Work measurement as a generalized quantum measurement
We present a new method to measure the work performed on a driven quantum
system and to sample its probability distribution . The method is based
on a simple fact that remained unnoticed until now: Work on a quantum system
can be measured by performing a generalized quantum measurement at a single
time. Such measurement, which technically speaking is denoted as a POVM
(positive operator valued measure) reduces to an ordinary projective
measurement on an enlarged system. This observation not only demystifies work
measurement but also suggests a new quantum algorithm to efficiently sample the
distribution . This can be used, in combination with fluctuation
theorems, to estimate free energies of quantum states on a quantum computer.Comment: 4 page
