Evaluation of Monilinia fructicola on apricot fruits
Monilinia fructicola has been a quarantine pathogen in Europe until 2014; however, the disease risk remains large for Prunus species, because of the continuing spreading around Europe. In order to assess the impact of this fungus on apricot fruits, differences in variety susceptibility need to be evaluated
Improved determination of the 1(0)-0(0) rotational frequency of NH3D+ from the high resolution spectrum of the v4 infrared band
The high resolution spectrum of the v4 band of NH3D+ has been measured by
difference frequency IR laser spectroscopy in a multipass hollow cathode
discharge cell. From the set of molecular constants obtained from the analysis
of the spectrum, a value of 262817(6) MHz (3sigma) has been derived for the
frequency of the 1(0)-0(0) rotational transition. This value supports the
assignment to NH3D+ of lines at 262816.7 MHz recorded in radio astronomy
observations in Orion-IRc2 and the cold prestellar core B1-bS.Comment: Accepted for publication in the Astrophysical Journal Letters 04 June

New accurate measurement of 36ArH+ and 38ArH+ ro-vibrational transitions by high resolution IR absorption spectroscopy
The protonated Argon ion, ArH, has been identified recently in
the Crab Nebula (Barlow et al. 2013) from Herschel spectra. Given the
atmospheric opacity at the frequency of its =1-0 and =2-1 rotational
transitions (617.5 and 1234.6 GHz, respectively), and the current lack of
appropriate space observatories after the recent end of the Herschel mission,
future studies on this molecule will rely on mid-infrared observations. We
report on accurate wavenumber measurements of ArH and
ArH rotation-vibration transitions in the =1-0 band in the
range 4.1-3.7 m (2450-2715 cm). The wavenumbers of the (0)
transitions of the =1-0 band are 2612.501350.00033 and
2610.701770.00042 cm () for ArH and
ArH, respectively. The calculated opacity for a gas thermalized at
a temperature of 100 K and a linewidth of 1 km.s of the (0) line is
(ArH). For column densities of
ArH larger than cm, significant absorption
by the (0) line can be expected against bright mid-IR sources
Different methods of evaluation of Monilinia laxa on apricot flowers and branches
- Organic apricot production is currently not profitable.
- The main obstacle to sustainable profitability is brown rot caused by the fungus Monilinia laxa (Aderh. & Ruhl).
- In the current apricot germplasm no source of total resistance has been shown, but some varieties are expressing interesting levels of tolerance.
- A good evaluation of the M. laxa symptoms is essential for a precise diagnosis of the infection and to appreciate differences between tolerant and susceptible varieties and genotypes
Electrolysis cell for the manufacture of persulfates
A cell for the electrolytic generation of persulfates, characterized by the fact that a housing acts as cathode, is made of metal, and consists of a lower electrolytically active section and an upper electrolytically inactive section. It is designed so that there is produced the greatest possible current density suited to produce the desired electrolysis effect. This invention, compared to the devices used until now, exhibits considerable advantages whereby it is particularly suited for the production of potassium persulfate
An Umbrella Review of Systematic Reviews on Food Choice and Nutrition Published between 2017 and-2019
The objective of this umbrella review was to provide an update on the latest knowledge in the field of food choice and nutrition. Databases Scopus and ISI-Web of Science were searched for “food choice” AND nutrition. Papers were included if they were systematic reviews published between January 2017 and August 2019 on any subpopulation group. In total, 26 systematic reviews were kept. Data were extracted with a predetermined grid including first author, publication year, country, population group, explanatory constructs (intervention focus) and reported outcomes. Common indicators for outcome measures on food choice and nutrition studies are nutrition knowledge, healthy food choices, food purchases and food and nutrient intake. The most common strategy implemented to alter food choice with a nutritional aim is nutrition education, followed by provision of information through labels. Among children, parent modelling is key to achieving healthy food choices. In general, combining strategies seems to be the most effective way to achieve healthier food consumption and to maintain good nutrition in all age groups
The Flt3L/Flt3 Axis in Dendritic Cell Biology and Cancer Immunotherapy.
Dendritic cells (DCs) prime anti-tumor T cell responses in tumor-draining lymph nodes and can restimulate T effector responses in the tumor site. Thus, in addition to unleashing T cell effector activity, current immunotherapies should be directed to boost DC function. Herein, we review the potential function of Flt3L as a tool for cancer immunotherapy. Flt3L is a growth factor that acts in Flt3-expressing multipotent progenitors and common lymphoid progenitors. Despite the broad expression of Flt3 in the hematopoietic progenitors, the main effect of the Flt3/Flt3L axis, revealed by the characterization of mice deficient in these genes, is the generation of conventional DCs (cDCs) and plasmacytoid DCs (pDCs). However, Flt3 signaling through PI3K and mTOR may also affect the function of mature DCs. We recapitulate the use of Flt3L in preclinical studies either as a single agent or in combination with other cancer therapies. We also analyze the use of Flt3L in clinical trials. The strong correlation between type 1 cDC (cDC1) infiltration of human cancers with overall survival in many cancer types suggests the potential use of Flt3L to boost expansion of this DC subset. However, this may need the combination of Flt3L with other immunomodulatory agents to boost cancer immunotherapy.Work in the D.S. laboratory is funded by the CNIC; by the European Research Council (ERC-2016-Consolidator Grant 725091); by Agencia Estatal de Investigación (PID2019-108157RB); by Comunidad de Madrid (B2017/BMD-3733 Immunothercan-CM); by Fondo Solidario Juntos (BancoSantander); and by Fundació La Marató de TV3 (201723).
