    Fatiga y rendimiento en la velocidad y salto

    El presente trabajo expone una comparación entre dos tipos de actividades fatigantes (pliometría y multisaltos) y su relación de dependencia con el rendimiento en la velocidad y la capacidad de salto, acciones propias de numerosas actividades deportivas. Para ello se utilizó un único grupo control de 11 sujetos universitarios que pasó por dos sesiones, separadas temporalmente una semana. En la primera sesión se utilizó como ejercicio de prefatiga los multisaltos, mientras que en la segunda sesión, la pliometría. Se realizó un análisis estadístico descriptivo, un análisis de contraste, t-Student y ANOVA, y un análisis de correlación de Pearson. Los resultados demostraron de forma significativa que se obtuvieron mejores registros en la capacidad de salto durante la sesión en la que se realizaron previamente ejercicios de pliometría, y en la velocidad durante la sesión de multisaltos

    Cyclometalation of lanthanum(iii) based MOF for catalytic hydrogenation of carbon dioxide to formate

    The hydrogenation of carbon dioxide (CO2) to formic acid is of great importance due to its useful properties in the chemical industry. In this work, we have prepared a novel metal-organic framework (MOF), JMS-1, using bipyridyl dicarboxylate linkers, with molecular formula [La2(bpdc)3(DMF)3]n. Network analysis of JMS-1 revealed a new 7-connected topology (zaz). The MOF backbone of the activated phase (JMS-1a) was functionalized by cyclometalation using [RuCl2(p-cymene)]2 to produce Ru(ii)@JMS-1a. Both JMS-1a and Ru(ii)@JMS-1a were able to convert CO2 in the presence of hydrogen to formate. Ru(ii)@JMS-1a displayed outstanding conversion evidenced by a yield of 98% of formate under optimized conditions of total pressure 50 bar (CO2/H2 = 1 : 4, temperature 110 \ub0C, time 24 h, 5 mmol KOH, 8 mL ethanol).     The Transfer Hydrogenation of Cinnamaldehyde Using Homogeneous Cobalt(II) and Nickel(II) (E)-1-(Pyridin-2-yl)-N-(3-(triethoxysilyl)propyl)methanimine and the Complexes Anchored on Fe3O4 Support as Pre-Catalysts: An Experimental and In Silico Approach

    The imino pyridine Schiff base cobalt(II) and nickel(II) complexes (C1 and C2) and their functionalised γ-Fe3O4 counterparts (Fe3O4@C1 and Fe3O4@C2) were synthesised and characterised using IR, elemental analysis, and ESI-MS for C1 and C2, and single crystal X-ray diffraction for C1, while the functionalised materials Fe3O4@C1 and Fe3O4@C2 were characterized using IR, XRD, SEM, TEM, EDS, ICP-OES, XPS and TGA. Complexes C1, C2 and the functionalised materials Fe3O4@C1 and Fe3O4@C2 were tested as catalysts for the selective transfer hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde and all four pre-catalysts showed excellent catalytic activity. Complexes C1 and C2 acted as homogeneous catalysts with high selectivity towards the formation of hydrocinnamaldehyde (88.7% and 92.6%, respectively) while Fe3O4@C1 and Fe3O4@C2 acted as heterogeneous catalysts with high selectivity towards cinnamyl alcohol (89.7% and 87.7%, respectively). Through in silico studies of the adsorption energies, we were able to account for the different products formed using the homogeneous and the heterogeneous catalysts which we attribute to the preferred interaction of the C=C moiety in the substrate with the Ni centre in C2 (−0.79 eV) rather than the C=O (−0.58 eV)

    A Sensitive Branched DNA HIV-1 Signal Amplification Viral Load Assay with Single Day Turnaround

    Branched DNA (bDNA) is a signal amplification technology used in clinical and research laboratories to quantitatively detect nucleic acids. An overnight incubation is a significant drawback of highly sensitive bDNA assays. The VERSANT® HIV-1 RNA 3.0 Assay (bDNA) (“Versant Assay”) currently used in clinical laboratories was modified to allow shorter target incubation, enabling the viral load assay to be run in a single day. To dramatically reduce the target incubation from 16–18 h to 2.5 h, composition of only the “Lysis Diluent” solution was modified. Nucleic acid probes in the assay were unchanged. Performance of the modified assay (assay in development; not commercially available) was evaluated and compared to the Versant Assay. Dilution series replicates (>950 results) were used to demonstrate that analytical sensitivity, linearity, accuracy, and precision for the shorter modified assay are comparable to the Versant Assay. HIV RNA-positive clinical specimens (n = 135) showed no significant difference in quantification between the modified assay and the Versant Assay. Equivalent relative quantification of samples of eight genotypes was demonstrated for the two assays. Elevated levels of several potentially interfering endogenous substances had no effect on quantification or specificity of the modified assay. The modified assay with drastically improved turnaround time demonstrates the viability of signal-amplifying technology, such as bDNA, as an alternative to the PCR-based assays dominating viral load monitoring in clinical laboratories. Highly sensitive bDNA assays with a single day turnaround may be ideal for laboratories with especially stringent cost, contamination, or reliability requirements

    Incidencia del ejercicio físico y el entrenamiento vibratorio sobre la amplitud de movimiento de mujeres con fibromialgia

    Objetivo. En la presente investigación hemos planteado como objetivos principales, por un lado, valorar el efecto del ejercicio físico y el entrenamiento vibratorio sobre la amplitud de movimiento en mujeres con fibromialgia (FM) y, por otro, determinar si existe alguna relación entre dicha variable y el dolor y la rigidez. Método. La muestra estuvo constituida por un total de cuarenta y seis mujeres (edad: 58,2 ± 8,5 años; peso: 72,1 ± 9,6 kg; altura: 156,9 ± 6,1 cm) diagnosticadas con FM. Los participantes fueron divididos aleatoriamente en tres grupos: ejercicio físico y entrenamiento vibratorio (WBV + EJ; n = 15); ejercicio físico sin vibraciones (EJ; n = 15) y un grupo control (GC; n = 16). Los grupos WBV + EJ y EJ realizaron dos sesiones semanales de ejercicio físico durante 8 semanas. Además, los integrantes de WBV + EJ realizaron 3 sesiones semanales de entrenamiento vibratorio (30 Hz, 4 mm). Las pruebas de evaluación incluyeron el test de sit and reach (variable principal), la valoración del número de tender points (TP) y una escala analógica visual (VAS) para determinar la rigidez. Resultados. Los resultados derivados del análisis intra e intergrupo no mostraron diferencias significativas en la rigidez o el número de TP, si bien, la prueba de sit and reach mostró una mejora estadísticamente significativa en WBV + EJ (58%; p < 0,05). El análisis correlacional mostró una relación inversa (r = -0,55; p < 0,05) entre el sit and reach y el número de TP. Conclusión. Como conclusión, podemos indicar que los datos obtenidos en la presente investigación han mostrado los efectos significativos del entrenamiento vibratorio sobre la amplitud de movimiento en mujeres con FM, aunque el número de TP o la rigidez no se vieron afectados en ningún caso

    Proposal of a Nutritional Quality Index (NQI) to Evaluate the Nutritional Supplementation of Sportspeople

    Background: Numerous supplements are used by sportspeople. They are not always appropriate for the individual or the sports activity and may do more harm than good. Vitamin and mineral supplements are unnecessary if the energy intake is sufficient to maintain body weight and derives from a diet with an adequate variety of foods. The study objectives were to evaluate the main nutrients used as supplements in sports and to propose a nutritional quality index (NQI) that enables sportspeople to optimize their use of supplements and detect and remedy possible nutritional deficits. Material and Methods: A nutritional study was performed in 485 sportspeople recruited from Centros Andaluces de Medicina del Deporte, (CAMD). All completed socio-demographic, food frequency, and lifestyle questionnaires. The nutritional quality of their diet and need for supplementation were evaluated by scoring their dietary intake with and without supplementation, yielding two NQI scores (scales of 0-21 points) for each participant. Results: A superior mean NQI score was obtained when the supplements taken by participants were not included (16. 28 (SD of 3.52)) than when they were included (15.47 (SD: 3.08)), attributable to an excessive intake of some nutrients through supplementation. Conclusions: These results indicate that sportspeople with a varied and balanced diet do not need supplements, which appear to offer no performance benefits and may pose a health risk.The authors are grateful to the Junta de Andalucía, Spain (Research Group AGR-255“Nutrition.     Beneficios de un programa de ejercicio multicomponente de baja intensidad y corta duración en la miastenia gravis. A propósito de un caso

    Se expone un caso clínico de una paciente con miastenia gravis (MG) sometida a un programa multicomponente de ejercicio, de baja intensidad, de 2 sesiones semanales durante 4 semanas consistente en Pilates suelo, trabajo de fuerza y de flexibilidad. El objetivo de este trabajo fue analizar los efectos de este programa en la capacidad funcional y la percepción del estado de salud de la paciente. Antes y después de la realización del programa se efectuaron test funcionales y se administró el cuestionario SF-36® para valoración de la percepción del estado de salud. Resultados: Se observaron mejoras en todos los test de valoración de la resistencia y de la fuerza y en la percepción del estado de salud. Conclusiones: Un programa de ejercicio individualizado de corta duración y baja intensidad puede mejorar la capacidad funcional y la percepción del estado de salud en pacientes con MG
