O que podem as oficinas de geometria? cartografando uma sala de aula da EJA

    Get PDF

    Get PDF

Exploring the Therapeutic Roles of Santeria for Latinx Living in Florida

Mental health services within Latinx communities in the United States has been greatly underutilized. Seekers of mental health support face many barriers including internalized stigmas, misconception of mental health serves and low general knowledge of mental health and wellness. For many Latinx, culturally competent mental healthcare has lacked important elements to how Latinx interpret mental healthcare services. The use of Santería in many in Florida and the United States has supplemented gaps left by formal mental healthcare services. Santería has its own stigmas within Latinx communities were its practiced, forcing many Santeros and seekers to practice in private. Lack of public knowledge of Santería allows Latinx with mental illness to freely seek mental healing without the worries of negative judgment and stigma. The purpose of the is thesis is to analyze how mental health services are viewed within Latinx communities in central Florida. This work also examines the various reasons why Latinos generally underutilize mental healthcare services. My research investigates the uses of Santería in Latinx community in Central Florida as both a religious and informal therapeutic practice. Specifically, my research examines the extent to which Santería practitioners fill this gap as informal therapists and counselors; representing both culturally acceptable form of mental health services as well as reflecting the thoughts and perspective of Latinx towards formal mental healthcare

Computation of Voltage Sag Initiation with Fourier based Algorithm, Kalman Filter and Wavelets

    Get PDF
Dynamic Voltage Restorers (DVR) have been successfully applied for voltage dip mitigation in the last years. Especially in systems with nonlinear loads and wind turbine generation DVR units support the Power Quality enhancement. The reliability and quality of DVR operation depends mostly on fast and accurate voltage dip detection. Detection methodologies must be able to detect a voltage dip as fast as possible and be immune to other types of perturbations. In this paper we address the problem of voltage dip estimation using carefully selected advanced signal processing methods such as Fourier based algorithm, Kalman filtering and Wavelets. Additionally, the traditional and common technique of RMS value tracking has been mentioned. The algorithms have been tested under different conditions: voltage dip with phase jump, noise, frequency variations

Understanding the preferences for different types of urban greywater uses and the impact of qualitative attributes

Greywater reuse can allow substantial improvements in the efficiency of potable water systems. However, widespread uptake of greywater reuse depends on its acceptability by the population. Previous studies have assessed the implementation costs of greywater reuse technology, and considered its acceptability in principle. Although cost is clearly very important in terms of adopting/installing the technology, the actual perception of greywater reuse is crucial in driving the acceptability of use and the long-term success of the technology. This study uses discrete choice models to quantify, for the first time, the preferences of different socio-economic groups for greywater of different quality (colour, odour) and for different uses inside homes. A stated choice survey that removed the influence of installation costs was developed, and implemented in Santiago, Chile. Although legislation allows greywater use in Santiago, it does not take place at any meaningful scale. Results show that, in decreasing order of preference, there is an overall acceptance for using high quality treated greywater for toilet flushing, laundry, garden irrigation, hand washing and, shower/bathtub use, but not for drinking. When the quality of appearance in terms of colour and odour gets worse, monetary incentives could be needed even for those uses that do not involve human contact. Gender, age, educational level, water expenditure level, and in particular previous knowledge about greywater reuse, are important determinants of acceptability and thus willingness to pay for greywater use; however, their importance varies according to the type of use. Our results provide important insights for understanding the conditions that would precipitate rapid and wide uptake of greywater reuse in cities, and thereby make better use of limited water resources

Head Impact Exposure in Youth and Collegiate American Football

The relationship between head impact and subsequent brain injury for American football players is not well defined, especially for youth. The objective of this study is to quantify and assess Head Impact Exposure (HIE) metrics among youth and collegiate football players. This multiseason study enrolled 639 unique athletes (354 collegiate; 285 youth, ages 9–14), recording 476,209 head impacts (367,337 collegiate; 108,872 youth) over 971 sessions (480 collegiate; 491 youth). Youth players experienced 43 and 65% fewer impacts per competition and practice, respectively, and lower impact magnitudes compared to collegiate players (95th percentile peak linear acceleration (PLA, g) competition: 45.6 vs 61.9; 95th percentile PLA practice: 42.6 vs 58.8; 95th percentile peak rotational acceleration (PRA, rad∙s–2) competition: 2262 vs 4422; 95th percentile PRA practice: 2081 vs 4052; 95th percentile HITsp competition: 25.4 vs 32.8; 95th percentile HITsp practice: 23.9 vs 30.2). Impacts during competition were more frequent and of greater magnitude than during practice at both levels. Quantified comparisons of head impact frequency and magnitude between youth and collegiate athletes reveal HIE differences as a function of age, and expanded insight better informs the development of age-appropriate guidelines for helmet design, prevention measures, standardized testing, brain injury diagnosis, and recovery management

A multi-country panel study of behaviour, perceptions and expectations during different stages of the COVID-19 pandemic

It is widely accepted that the COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically changed travel patterns since 2020, largely due to restrictions on people's movement and work-from home practices. A large number of studies have been conducted to understand such changes from a trip maker's perspective, using different types of mobility data collected across the world. This study uses survey panel data on travel behaviour and activity participation collected between May 2020 and November 2020 in the United Kingdom, Australia, Colombia and South Africa using a consistent survey approach. We identify a role for three key underlying latent constructs, namely 1) concerns about COVID-19, 2) approval of government interventions and 3) scepticism towards COVID-19 measures. Using a hybrid choice model, we study the role of these constructs in explaining stated travel choices in two hypothetical post-pandemic scenarios. The model results show significantly different perceptions towards COVID-19 concerns and government handling of the COVID-19 pandemic (including restrictions) across countries. The model estimates show a clear influence for the latent constructs in explaining stated behaviour in the hypothetical post-pandemic scenarios across the four countries, where this is also impacted by lockdown stringency levels as well as socio-demographics

Single-Cell Transcriptional Analysis of Normal, Aberrant, and Malignant Hematopoiesis in Zebrafish

Hematopoiesis culminates in the production of functionally heterogeneous blood cell types. In zebrafish, the lack of cell surface antibodies has compelled researchers to use fluorescent transgenic reporter lines to label specific blood cell fractions. However, these approaches are limited by the availability of transgenic lines and fluorescent protein combinations that can be distinguished. Here, we have transcriptionally profiled single hematopoietic cells from zebrafish to define erythroid, myeloid, B, and T cell lineages. We also used our approach to identify hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells and a novel NK-lysin 4+ cell type, representing a putative cytotoxic T/NK cell. Our platform also quantified hematopoietic defects in rag2E450fs mutant fish and showed that these fish have reduced T cells with a subsequent expansion of NK-lysin 4+ cells and myeloid cells. These data suggest compensatory regulation of the innate immune system in rag2E450fs mutant zebrafish. Finally, analysis of Myc-induced T cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia showed that cells are arrested at the CD4+/CD8+ cortical thymocyte stage and that a subset of leukemia cells inappropriately reexpress stem cell genes, including bmi1 and cmyb. In total, our experiments provide new tools and biological insights into single-cell heterogeneity found in zebrafish blood and leukemia
