    Retractable Contracts

In calculi for modelling communication protocols, internal and external choices play dual roles. Two external choices can be viewed naturally as dual too, as they represent an agreement between the communicating parties. If the interaction fails, the past agreements are good candidates as points where to roll back, in order to take a different agreement. We propose a variant of contracts with synchronous rollbacks to agreement points in case of deadlock. The new calculus is equipped with a compliance relation which is shown to be decidable.Comment: In Proceedings PLACES 2015, arXiv:1602.0325

Genetic characteristics influence the phenotype of marine macroalga Fucus vesiculosus (Phaeophyceae)

Intraspecific variation is an important component of heterogeneity in biological systems that can manifest at the genotypic and phenotypic level. This study investigates the influence of genetic characteristics on the phenotype of free-living Fucus vesiculosus using traditional morphological measures and microsatellite genotyping. Two sympatric morphotypes were observed to be significantly genetically and morphologically differentiated despite experiencing analogous local environmental conditions; indicating a genetic element to F. vesiculosus morphology. Additionally, the observed intraclonal variation established divergent morphology within some genets. This demonstrated that clonal lineages have the ability to alter morphological traits by either a plastic response or somatic mutations. We provide support for the potential occurrence of the Gigas effect (cellular/organ enlargement through genome duplication) in the Fucus genus, with polyploidization appearing to correlate with a general increase in the size of morphological features. Phenotypic traits, as designated by morphology within the study, of F. vesiculosus are partially controlled by the genetic characteristics of the thalli. This study suggests that largely asexually reproducing algal populations may have the potential to adapt to changing environmental conditions through genome changes or phenotypic plasticity.Peer reviewe

Techno-economic analysis of PEM fuel cells role in photovoltaic-based systems for the remote base stations

Expansion of telecommunication networks even to the most remote areas where connection to the utility grid could never be justified, especially in touristic regions, has led to the increasing need for stand-alone power systems. In Adriatic coastal area employment of hybrid photovoltaic-based systems is straightforward due to high sun potential. Inherent intermittent nature of renewable sources is especially not compatible with telecommunication system who require uninterrupted power supply. This leads to the need of not only energy storage, but also a "back up" solution in the case of primary system failure. Emphasis is put on the system reliability and simplicity while system price is not necessarily top priority. Usual approach of using diesel generators as a "back up" has been challenged by the introduction of PEM fuel cells. Even with hydrogen technologies market development still lagging behind some comparable advantages such as high energy conversion efficiency, silent operation and no emissions make PEM fuel cells a legitimate candidate for replacing traditional oil burning generators. Technoeconomic analysis of various stand-alone power systems for the remote base station on an Adriatic island is made. At the moment, levelized cost of electricity point of view still gives slight advantage to the diesel generators. Long term reliability of PEM fuel cells system still needs to be examined in practice, as this combined with pro-environmental characteristics of fuel cells can make the difference especially in pristine and protected areas. Furthermore, uncertain petroleum market and fast developing hydrogen technology market could reverse this trend in the near future.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author’s final draft

A Theory of Formal Choreographic Languages

We introduce a meta-model based on formal languages, dubbed formal choreographic languages, to study message-passing systems. Our framework allows us to generalise standard constructions from the literature and to compare them. In particular, we consider notions such as global view, local view, and projections from the former to the latter. The correctness of local views projected from global views is characterised in terms of a closure property. We consider a number of communication properties -- such as (dead)lock-freedom -- and give conditions on formal choreographic languages to guarantee them. Finally, we show how formal choreographic languages can capture existing formalisms; specifically we consider communicating finite-state machines, choreography automata, and multiparty session types. Notably, formal choreographic languages, differently from most approaches in the literature, can naturally model systems exhibiting non-regular behaviour

On the arrival of power of Carlos Salinas de Gortari (CSG) in 1988, he put the bases of the current configuration of economic and political actors: political class and parties to the service of transnationals locals and internationals. His government was the second one of the last six blocks of periods of six years driving the economic and deregulation labor, privatizations and denationalization of laws that were giving sense to the State that was assuming his educational responsibility. With the creation of the National Council for the Culture and Arts (CNCA), far from strengthening historical institutions (SEP, INAH, INBAL), these have declined for the inattention of his laws as for the policy of separation of the link education / culture. This work analyzes the impact of the creation of the Secretariat of Culture that outlines a new public model for culture and the cultural heritage with base to commercialization.El arribo al poder de Carlos Salinas de Gortari (CSG) en 1988, puso las bases de la actual configuración de actores económicos y políticos: clase política y partidos al servicio de transnacionales locales e internacionales. We compiled data on pollination and dispersal syndromes of 406 plant species distributed among different elevations in Area de Protecao Ambiental da Serra de Baturite (APASB) in northeastern Brazil. We aim to determine how the dispersal and pollination of the flora in the mountainous rainforest of APASB are affected by climate, relief and growth form. We hypothesized that plant community is comprised of different ecological groups based on biotic and abiotic syndromes. Melittophily was the most common (57%) pollination syndrome followed by non-specialized and ornithophily (7%). We found that 64% of species exhibited zoochory, 19% exhibited anemochory and 17% exhibited autochory. Pollination syndromes differed significantly only between types of growth form. Dispersal syndromes differed between topology, growth form and elevation. Six ecological groups were formed based on the interaction between dispersal-pollination and growth form, with predominantly zoochory in woody and anemochory in non-woody plants. Water availability may be the principal factor responsible for variation among dispersal syndromes. The proportion of ruderal species in the non-woody component explains the differences in syndromes between growth forms.3012734CAPES [CAPES / PROCAD 157/2007]CNPq [552213/2011-0]Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Cientifico e Tecnologico (CNPq) [479263/2011-6, 563537/2010-8]Fundacao Cearense de Apoio ao Desenvolvimento Cientifico e Tecnologico (FUNCAP) [PP1-0033-00025.01.00/10]PIBIC-FUNCAP [01/11]Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq

Both the organic and inorganic compounds commonly used in the industry to inhibit the corrosion process of metals and its alloys are mostly composed by highly toxic chemicals, in addition to being more expensive. In this research sugar-components derived from the Morinda Citrifolia (MC) leaves have been extracted in aqueous solution to perform a natural inhibitor capable to control de corrosion damage, which can replace the traditional inhibitors, being environmentally friendly. The experimental results indicate that this compound has shown excellent performance as corrosion inhibitor, reaching inhibition efficiency (EI), values up to 90% at inhibitor concentrations ranging 0.8 to 2 g•L−1 and immersion times of about 1 to 4 h. It has been found that the inhibition process takes place by the adsorption of the molecules on the surface of the metal (AISI 1045), by a physisorption mechanism.proyecto de investigación 3817/2014/CID (UAEM-Secretaria de Investigación y Estudios Avanzados)

The accelerated urban expansion that the city of Trujillo presents in comparison to its current offer of interprovincial transport terminals is limited, with Trujillo having only one facility of this level. This, added to the informality and the scattered location of some transport companies within the city, makes it necessary to create a new land terminal located outside the urban area, to improve the city's road flow. The research thus covers the collection of quantitative and qualitative data, analysis of supply and demand and the comparison of these same data through tables and graphs for a correct diagnosis and solution proposal. This is how we arrive at the architectural proposal for the Eastern Terrestrial Terminal of the city of Trujillo, which will contribute not only to satisfying the needs of embarkation and disembarkation towards the destinations of La Libertad mountain range, but will also provide the necessary public space to connect this equipment with the rest of the city and its inhabitantsTesi

The center of pure complex braid groups

Brou\'e, Malle and Rouquier conjectured in that the center of the pure braid group of an irreducible finite complex reflection group is cyclic. We prove this conjecture, for the remaining exceptional types, using the analogous result for the full braid group due to Bessis, and we actually prove the stronger statement that any finite index subgroup of such braid group has cyclic center
