FIRST RECORDS OF RHYNOCRYPTID UNDERSTORY BIRDS IN THE CANOPY OF CHILEAN TEMPERATE RAINFORESTS

Abstract ∙ We documented the first observations of rhinocryptid birds in the canopy of a temperate rainforest in southern Chile. In the Bosque Pehuén Park, located in the southern Chilean Andes (39°42'S, 71°75'W), we installed camera traps in six old Nothofagus dombeyi trees, one per tree between 12 and 21 m above the forest floor. Traps were active from January to April 2017. The camera traps recorded three species of rhinocryptids in the canopy, between 12 and 14 m, Black-throated Huet-Huet (Pteroptochos tarnii), Chucao Tapaculo (Scelorchilus rubecula), and Magellanic Tapaculo (Scytalopus magellanicus). These records of rhinocryptids are unexpected since these species are currently believed to inhabit only on the forest floor and in the understory. This new information indicates that the canopy could occasionally provide food, shelter and nesting places for these birds.Resumen ∙ Primeros registros de rinocríptidos en el dosel de los bosques templados del sur de Chile En este trabajo documentamos las primeras observaciones de rinocríptidos en el dosel en los bosques templados del sur de Chile. En el parque Bosque Pehuén, en los Andes del sur (39°42'S, 71°75'W), se instalaron trampas cámara en seis árboles antiguos de Nothofagus dombeyi, una trampa por árbol, entre los 12 y los 21 m de altura. Las trampas estuvieron activas entre Enero y Abril de 2017. Las trampas cámara registraron tres especies de rinocríptidos entre los 12 y los 14 m de altura: Huet Huet (Pteroptochos tarnii), Chucao (Scelorchilus rubecula) y Churrín del sur (Scytalopus magellanicus). Estos registros de rinocríptidos son inesperados ya que estas especies se consideraban sólo como habitantes del suelo y del sotobosque. Esta nueva información indica que el dosel podría ocasionalmente proporcionar alimentos, refugio y lugares de anidación para estas aves

Los zapatos nos sirven y nos acompañan, testimonian diferentes verdades, dependiendo de su utilidad y su dueño. Pueden ser de vagabundos o de prisioneros, de militares, artistas o campesinos, de adultos o de niños, de asesinos o de asesinados. Muchos guardan un misterio, todos tienen una historia. El arte los ha acogido desde sus comienzos, vinculándolos a diferentes sucesos, como en las obras de Vincent Van Gogh, Can Togay y Gyula Pauer. A partir del trabajo de estos artistas se busca vincular el vacío y el horror en el arte con el tema de la verdad, entendida como alétheia o desocultación, rememoración y acontecimiento, e indagar por la historia que se oculta tras ciertas obras artísticas.Shoes are not only useful; they are also our constant companions, and, as such, they attest to different truths, depending on their utility and their owner. Trata-se de um livro de 227 páginas divididas em cinco capítulos cuja linha condutora é o coronavirus não situado necessariamente no Chile, mas com uma narrativa que vislumbra realidades do mundo inteiro. q-Coherent pairs and q-orthogonal polynomials

Early Detection of Periodontal Pathogens by PCR in Relation to Osseointegrated Implants

Indexación: Web of Science; Scielo.RESUMEN: El objetivo de este trabajo fue valuar la presencia temprana en sitios dentarios e implantarios de cuatro bacterias periodontopatógenas (A. actinomycetemcomitans, P. gingivalis, T. forsythensis y T. denticola) luego de dos semanas de la cirugía de segunda fase, además se propone comparar la presencia de estas 4 bacterias en sitios subgingivales dentarios e implantarios. Se estudiaron mediante reacción en cadena de polimerasa muestras de placa subgingival de implantes y de dientes vecinos a ellos, dos semanas luego de la cirugía de segunda fase. Dieciséis implantes y trece dientes en diez pacientes fueron seleccionados. Luego de dos semanas se encontró presencia de bacterias periodontopatógenas en sitios tanto periodontales como peri-implantarios, no se encontró relación entre diente e implante para P. gingivalis, T. forsythensis y T. denticola. Se encontró una relación significativa para A. actinomycetemcomitans (P<0,005). La bacteria detectada con mayor frecuencia fue P. gingivalis y la menos encontrada fue T. denticola. La dependencia para A. actinomycetemcomitans estuvo relacionada a pacientes con historia de periodontitis. Dentro de los límites de este estudio, los resultados muestran la presencia temprana de los cuatro patógenos periodontales alrededor de los sitios implantarios, y una relación estadísticamente significativa (P<0,005) entre implante y diente para A. actinomycetemcomitans.ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to assess the early colonization of four periodontopathogenic bacteria (A. actinomycetemcomitans, P. gingivalis, T. forsythensis and T. denticola) on titanium implants immediately after two weeks following second stage surgery; to compare the presence of these four periodontopathogenic bacteria at subgingival implant and adjacent tooth sites. Subgingival plaque samples from implant and neighboring teeth were studied by PCR after two weeks following second stage surgery. Sixteen implants and thirteen teeth, in ten patients were selected. At two weeks, pathogenic bacteria presence was found in both peri-implant and periodontal sites, there was no relation found between tooth and implant for P. gingivalis, T. forsythensis and T. denticola. A significant relation was found for A. actinomycetemcomitans (P<0.005). The more frequently detected bacteria were P. gingivalis, and the less was T. denticola. The dependence for A. actinomycetemcomitans was related to patients with a history of periodontitis. Within the limits of this study, the findings showed the early presence of the four periodontopathogenic bacteria around implant sites and a statistically significant (P<0.005) relation between implants and teeth sites for A. actinomycetemcomitans.http://ref.scielo.org/bw775
