Non-Commutative Painlevé Equations and Hermite-Type Matrix Orthogonal Polynomials

We study double integral representations of Christoffel–Darboux kernels associated with two examples of Hermite-type matrix orthogonal polynomials. We show that the Fredholm determinants connected with these kernels are related through the Its–Izergin–Korepin–Slavnov (IIKS) theory with a certain Riemann-Hilbert problem. Using this Riemann-Hilbert problem we obtain a Lax pair whose compatibility conditions lead to a non-commutative version of the Painlevé IV differential equation for each family

The Neuquén composite section: magnetostratigraphy and biostratigraphy of the marine lower Jurassic from the Neuquén basin (Argentina)

    Get PDF
Paleomagnetic and biostratigraphic data from five marine sedimentary sections in the Argentine Neuquén basin have allowed to construct the Lower Jurassic Neuquén Composite Section. This composite section comprises 14 reversed and 11 normal polarity Zones, in relation to 17 Andean ammonite Assemblage Zones, spanning the Hettangian^Toarcian (Early Jurassic). It represents the first paleomagnetic data of Lower Jurassic marine successions in the Southern Hemisphere. The Neuquén composite Section was correlated to the International Mesozoic Polarity Time Scale which, for the Lower Jurassic, comprises 54 polarity Zones and 16 Standard ammonite Zones. The correlation between the regional and the international biomagnetostratigraphic scales supports but also refines the correlation between the Andean and Standard ammonite zonations. Correlation between the Neuquén composite Section and the polarity sequences recorded in each section helped to assign several unfossiliferous stratigraphical levels to the corresponding biozones.Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Muse

Induction of stimulative parthenocarpy in Vitis vinifera L.

Stimulative parthenocarpy was induced in two varieties of Vitis vinifera L. Flame Tokay and Rose Muscat (local variety) out of eight varieties studied. In F l a m e T o k a y the delay or inhibition of bhe abscission of the calyptra and parthenocarpic development of the berries, was obtained with pre-bloom treatments (3 days before beginning of bloom) of 4CPA 30 ppm + KGA3 30 ppm. Induction and growth ,of parthenocarpic berries was most pronounced after post-bloom sprays (7 days after the end of bloom) with BA 1500 ppm + KGA3 80 ppm or 4CPA 30 ppm. A parthenocarpic development of the berries was also obtained with postbloom treatments of KGA3 at concentrations of 50 to 100 ppm. BA (Benzyladenine) alone had only a slight effect on the development of parthenocarpic berries. However, the results were surprisingly satisfactory when applied in combination with gibberellin (KGA3 80 ppm) or auxins. Treatments at bloom or after bloom with BA 800 ppm + KGA3 80 ppm increased bhe number of berries and cluster weight. Applications of BA 800 ppm + KGA3 80 ppm to Rose Musca t at the beginning of bloom resulted in clusters with practically all berries seedless. The artificially accelerated growth of the berries may provoke abortion of all the recently fecundated ovules and the non viability of the not fecundated ones. Clusters of the treated plants with an average of 520 flowers originated 501 parbhenocarpic berries (96%), whereas the control with an average 635 flowers per cluster gave a percentage of seeded + seedless berries of 14% only {95 berries per cluster). BA applied with auxin or gibberellin-like substances in full-bloom or after bloom produced seedless berries, which were smaller in size than the seeded berries of unsprayed clusters

Mineralogical evolution of salt over nine years, after removal of efflorescence and saline crusts from Elche’s Old Bridge (Spain)

The Old Bridge Elche’s showed abundant efflorescence and salt crusts that were eliminated in an intervention in 2005. We have followed the development of efflorescence after the intervention. And nine years later the efflorescence mineralogy was quite similar to the mineralogy of the pre-restoration efflorescence. The efflorescence on Elche’s Old Bridge (Puente Viejo) shows a wide mineralogical variation in the vertical profile, which is the result of a balance between two diffusive processes: the evaporation–condensation of atmospheric water vapor on/inside the wall, and the capillary flow of saline groundwater. Diurnal variations in atmospheric relative humidity (RH) and the low deliquescence relative humidity (DRH) values of some saline minerals (nitrate & chloride) play an important role in the vertical distribution of minerals. The mineral composition of efflorescence and saline crusts prior to cleaning the monument was similar to that identified nine years later. The chemical composition of groundwater, with a high sodium chloride component and much lower concentrations of sulfate and bicarbonate, explained the presence of halite, while the presence of demolition waste of a gypsiferous nature near the bridge explained the presence of sulfate salts, thenardite, konyaite, aphthitalite, and arcanite. The dissolution of airborne particles in condensation water probably contributed to the genesis of nitrate-rich minerals such as nitratine, darapskite, and especially humberstonite. The research activity is partially developed within the Geomaterials Programme (S2013/MIT-2914), founded by the Regional Government of Madrid.Peer reviewe
