    Get PDF
Kware Lake provides life to various forms of aqua flora and fauna, livelihood for fishermen community and food for the local populace. The study was conducted to evaluate nutrient dynamics of the lake’s sediment for a period of 12 months (June 2014 to May 2015). Results reveal that some of the variables studied did not show any variation due to space and time but electrical conductivity (EC), phosphate (PO43-), potassium, sodium and clay texture were able to vary according to months, seasons and stations. They recorded range of 101.3-113 µs/cm, 0.97-1.24 g/Kg, 0.29-0.37 g/kg, 0.62-0.77 g/kg, and 13-14 g/kg respectively. Results therefore suggest and confirmed that sediment has a high accumulation of phosphate, due to decomposition on the sediment bed and low nitrate level in sediment than in surface water

Phonological development: acquisition of hausa secondary consonants by the hausa children / Sani Dauda Ibrahim

    Get PDF
Phonological development refers to the stages that children pass before they can correctly use and understand the sound system of their language. Inspired by Stampe’s (1969) Natural Phonology Theory, this paper examines the acquisition of Hausa secondary consonants pronunciation by the Hausa children. The paper seeks to achieve the following objectives (a) to identify the phonological processes that are operating in the production of the Hausa secondary consonants by the Hausa 2-5 years children (b) to discover the units that are more affected if certain changes occur in the production of the Hausa secondary consonants (c) to explain whether a parental behavior influence the children’s production of the Hausa secondary consonants. Four children aged between 2-5 years were purposely selected. The data were collected using a Pictorial Stimulus-Driven Elicitation. The study found that reduction, simplification, and substitution phonological processes operate in some of the children’s speech production. It also revealed that regardless of the glottal stop, the second unit of the secondary consonants is more affected and that parental behavior affects children’s speech production. The implication of this result is that it can be used by speech pathology to draw a conclusion about the Hausa children’s phonological development

The impact of foreign direct investment on economic growth: A comparative study of Ghana and Nigeria

The economic development performance can be used to measure the economic growth of a given country. In economic analysis, a country can attain economic growth through the growth in national income measurement. However, the role of foreign direct investment (FDI) on economic growth continues to be debated and tested in the literature on international economics and development economies. This paper extends the previous empirical studies on the issue by providing some evidence from time series data for the period 1971 to 2013 of Ghana and Nigeria. The primary objective of this study is to analyze the impact of FDI on economic growth of Ghana and Nigeria taking trade openness, Gross Fixed Capital Formation and human capital as control variables. To investigate the long run equilibrium relationship, Johansen and Juselius co-integration approach is analyzed, while the speed of adjustment in the short run is analyzed through the use of VECM method. In addition to check for the direction between FDI, T.OPEN, GFCF, HK and economic growth, granger causality test is performed for both Ghana and Nigeria. In Ghana, all the explanatory variables have long run relationship with economic growth. In Nigeria, FDI, GFCF and HK have long run relationship with economic growth. However, the VECM results in Ghana reveal that only T.OPEN and GFCF are statistically significant and therefore have short run relationship with economic growth. Similarly, the coefficient of ECM is statistically significant at 1% level of significance. Thus, 23.3% of the adjustment is achieved due to the correction of the adjustment speed in a year. In Nigeria, the coefficient of ECM is statistically significant at 1% level of significance. Thus, 10.8% of the adjustment is achieved due to the correction of the adjustment speed in a year. To this effect, Ghana‟s correction of the speed of adjustment in a year moves faster than that of Nigeria

The economic development performance can be used to measure the economic growth of a given country. In economic analysis, a country can attain economic growth through the growth in national income measurement. However, there were rigorous discussions on the role of foreign direct investment (FDI) on economic growth and continued to be a topic of discussion on the contemporary economy. This paper serves as an extension to the previous empirical studies on the issue by providing some evidence from time series data for the period 1971 to 2013 of Nigeria. The primary aim of this study is to analyze the impact of FDI on economic growth of Nigeria taking trade openness, Gross Fixed Capital Formation and human capital as control variables. This qualitative study aims to investigate the traits and factors influencing how 155 people in Türkiye perceive courage by relying on the Lay Theory of Courage. Data were gathered by asking participants to name the most courageous person they know and describe why they perceive that person as courageous. The collected data underwent content analysis. The results revealed that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, was the most frequently cited person as the most courageous, followed by family members, public figures, historical figures, self, generalizations (general figures), and acquaintances, respectively. Atatürk's courageous personality drove historic change, marked by unwavering commitment, remarkable achievements, and exceptional bravery. Participants view family members as courageous for various reasons, including resilience, sacrifice, moral choices, and pursuing dreams. Additionally, those who selected themselves as the most courageous do so because they confidently pursue their goals, make fearless decisions, and stand up to superiors in a system where self-reliance is essential. The study's findings provide insights into how courage is perceived in Turkish society and shed light on its symbolic meaning
