Liberty, Equality and Not Too Much Fraternity: An Experience in Practical Application of Liberal Education Teaching Techniques
The paper explores an experience in practical application of liberal education teaching techniques. We describe the most frequently used techniques and present sample classroom assignments based on this framework. We also discuss the opportunities and limitations provided by the use of these methods in a classroom setting.
Keywords: teaching techniques, liberal education, writing and analytical reading, humanities teaching
Social and Labor Status of University Teachers: Elite Specialists or Precariat?
The article presents the analysis of the social and labor situation with teachers of Russian universities. The reform and optimization of the sphere of higher education affects the nature and conditions of employment of teachers of Russian universities. There is a lowering in the status and prestige of teaching work. In addition, negative processes are penetrating into the field of education, which make it possible to talk not just about the deterioration of working conditions, but the gradual transformation of highly qualified specialists of higher education into candidates for the precariat. The research is based both on theoretical approaches to the precariat and precarious employment and the results of statistical, analytical reports and data from the All-Russian study “Precariat: A new phenomenon in the socio-economic structure of society”. Based on these materials, the most important indicators of precarization of the work of higher education workers have been identified. Objective indicators of precarization of Russian higher school teachers include the uncertainty of the remuneration system, instability and non-guaranteed of employment, overemployment and underemployment, and subjective indicators include a sense of vulnerability, defenselessness, fear of job loss and, as a consequence, unsatisfactory social well-being, leading to a low assessment of one’s social position in society
Electroless deposition and Electroplating of Metals
The present paper summarizes the main results of the research on the electroless and electrochemical metal deposition from aqueous solutions, which has been carried out in the Research Institute of Physical-Chemical problems of the Belarussian State University and at the Department of Inorganic Chemistry of the BSU for the last three decades. The paper covers the following problems: the main peculiarities of electroless and electrochemical deposition of copper, nickel, Ni-B,Ni-P, gold films 0.1-30 mkm and more in thickness, their phase composition, morphology and properties; the characteristic features of of hydrometallurgic allowing
(e.g. electroless and electrochemical deposition of a number of binary alloy coatings such as Cu-Ni, Cu-Cd, Cu-Sn, Cu-Zn, Ni-Sn, Ni-W, Ni-Mo), methods of their chemical and phase composition and microstructure regulation, together with correlation between these parameters and alloy properties; the methods for composite metal and alloy film plating from solutions with production of materials including metal oxides and thus possessing unusual and useful properties; the peculiarities of metal film plating onto dielectrics with production of continuous films and metal conductive patterns without the use of photoresists
The use of morphobiological characteristics in the selection of Phacelia Tanacetifolia Benth
The aim of the work is to create new adapted varieties resistant to the complex of biotic and abiotic factors on the basis of the use of Phacelia tanacetifolia Benth. morphological and biological characteristic
Methodology and results in bank capital assessment
In the context of the present financial and economic environment, bank capital assessment requires new methods adapted to current situations. So, the selective model of bank capital assessment has been developed and proposed, which aims at the selection of the most important indices of capital’s structure.
The main groups of indices are outlined, which are reasonable and practical to be used in the selective model: a group of liquidity indices, a group of bank reliability indices, a group of risk indices, a group of capital sufficiency indices and an index of IT-implementation level. Moreover, a notion of the bank capital factor is introduced.
For the key index – bank capital factor – calculation values are structured according to the integral principle, i.e., by summing all reasonable values with the use of normalization, which contributes to the qualitative capital assessment. The calculation is carried out for the main banks of Crimea, which provide open information on the results of their activity. Bank activity data is taken from open sources.
The data is ranked in the summary Table according to the value of the bank capital factor. The banks operating in Crimea have been found to work successfully, however, some problematic banks have been identified, which are advised to reconsider their capital management policy.peer-reviewe
An integrated approach to assess the complications of deforming osteoarthritis in sports medicine
Objective: prognosis of thromboembolic complications using clinical diagnostic markers.Materials and methods. The study involved 151 patients who underwent total arthroplasty (TA) of large joints of the lower extremities. Blood serum was studied at the patient’s admission to the hospital, after surgery, and at discharge from the hospital. The following parameters were determined: cell-molecular marker vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), a genetic study was performed using the “Plasma screen. Plasma factors of the blood clotting system”. The content of VEGF was determined in blood serum using solid-phase enzyme immunoassay. The effectiveness of diagnostics based on sensitivity and specificity analysis was considered by constructing a ROC analysis at different points of separation of the values of the studied indicators.Results. Diagnostic significance of VEGF and the efficiency of determining PAI-1 were determined. In patients with elevated VEGF values (>183.6 pg/ml), PAI-1 gene polymorphism was detected, which reduces the fibrinolytic activity of the blood system and increases the risk of coronary disorders. This is especially important for patients in a hospital with a large number of risk factors for the development of VTEC due to prolonged immobilization of the limb. The study made it possible to determine that with VEGF values up to 183.6 pg/ml, a low probability of thromboembolic complications is predicted, and with values above 183.6 pg/ml — high.Conclusion. The course of DOA in athletes may be complicated by surgical intra-articular interventions of traumatological and orthopedic profile, which does not exclude the development of VTEO, significantly complicating drug therapy and the rehabilitation period. The presented data show that the determination of VEGF, 5G-675 4G polymorphism of the PAI 1 gene in blood serum can be used to assess the risk of venous thromboembolic complications (VTE), contributing to modern informative diagnostics, improving the quality of life of athletes and prolonging their sports career
Biological resources of natural forage grassland of the cretaceous south of the European Russia
The main objective of the made researches was assessment of territorial confinedness of economic and valuable plant species and also a status and productivity of a natural forage grassland within agrolandscapes of the cretaceous South of the European Russia (the territory of the Belgorod region). Biological and vegetable resources of the natural forage grasslands of the East part of the Belgorod region in a subband of the southern forest-steppe were studie
