A mixture of diatomaceous earth (DE) and deltamethrin (DM) was developed to control stored-grain insect pests. The formulation contains a low quantity of DE and small amounts of insecticide deltamethrin technical powder dissolved in solvent and soap. This study was initiated in order to determine how long the mixture DE/DM will provide acceptable protection against infestation by the rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae (L.), the lesser grain borer Rhyzopertha dominica (F.) and the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum (Herbst), when applied to hard red spring wheat (HRSW) and stored under normal storage conditions. Immediately after treatment, all three species were controlled at 100 milligram per kg or parts per million (ppm) of DE/DM mixture. At 100 ppm, DE/DM mixture provided 100% population reduction of all three species for up to 12 months with little or no progeny produced. Keywords: Diatomaceous earth, Deltamethrin, Mixture, Wheat, Protectio

Balinese literary works (in this case Satua) have enormous potential in the effort to build children's character. So that students have a character that is firmly rooted in culture. The activity of appreciating satua is closely related to the practice of sharpening feelings, reasoning, and imagination, as well as sensitivity to society, culture, and the environment. Students are expected to be able to enjoy, appreciate, understand, and utilize literary works in general and satua, in particular, to develop personalities, broaden life horizons, and improve knowledge and language skills. In behaving, human character prioritizes mental or moral quality and focuses on how to apply good values, in the form of actions or behavior. ‘Masatua’ will help students become cultured and responsive to the noble values of life

Social studies education as a field of study given at the educational level in the school environment, not only provides knowledge, but also provides values, attitudes and skills in the lives of students in society, nation and state in various characteristics. To make social studies learning enjoyable for students, there needs to be teacher innovation and creativity in delivering learning in class. Because even now, social studies still seems to be neglected and is considered rote. Through the application of virtual classroom learning media with the help of e-modules and learning videos in social studies learning for class VI students at SD Negeri 7 Sesetan, it can have a positive impact on students. In accordance with data collection carried out by distributing questionnaires to 31 students in class VI of SD Negeri 7 Sesetan, the results obtained were that 95% of students gave positive responses and enjoyed participating in the learning carried out by the teacher

The population in this study were all students of class VII of SMP Negeri 1 Blahbatuh with a total of 387 students. The sample in this study was carried out by simple random sampling technique. There are two types of instruments for capturing data, namely numerical ability tests and tests of mathematics learning outcomes that were previously tested. Data obtained were then analyzed using t-test and anakova. The result of this study there are differences of mathematics learning result students using audiovisual learning media in cartoon diktat form with the conventional media before or after controlling numerical ability

The effects of machining strategies of magnetic assisted roller burnishing on the resulted surface structure

    Get PDF
The aim of this paper is to investigate the effect of different burnishing strategy on a C45 steel machining. Burnishing is a well-known, cold working surface improving technology, it is usually applied for cylindrical workpiece. In the reported research a novel developed magnetic assisted ball burnishing (MABB) tool was applied which was designed for MABB machining of flat and harmonic surfaces. To increase its efficiency, different types of machining strategies were applied. After the burnishing process the machined surfaces were measured by surface roughness tester to determine the most important Rsk and Rku tribological parameters. According to the results it can be stated that all different burnishing strategies have special application areas where they can be used efficiently (e.g. sliding surface, moulding tool and after- or pre-machining for ultra-precision machining)

Hot-cracking of high-alloyed steels evaluated by wedge rolling test

We present a new methodology of determination of hot-cracking f metallic materials, which is based on laboratory application of the wedge rolling test and computer processing of the results obtained. The experiment was made with selected new types of high-alloyed free-cutting (ferritic and austenitic) steels. The initial specimens underwent an additional modification enabling easier development of cracks which consisted in milling out of the defined V-shaped notches on a side wall of a specimen. After taking specimens from the rolled material, we performed the metallographic analysis of microstructures by means of optical microscopy as well as a SEM analysis of the cracks. The resulting microstructure in the propagating crack vicinity was markedly influenced by this fracture. In the crack vicinity, a noticeable refinement of grains was observed due to the stress-induced recrystallization and occurrence of deformation zones that were pronounced by the rolled-out and stretched sulphides. As a rule, fractures were created by the ductile failure with visible pits, caused by tearing of sulphides from the material. Susceptibility of the studied steels to hot-cracking was evaluated and compared.

Digital intervention increases influenza vaccination rates for people with diabetes in a decentralized randomized trial

People with diabetes (PWD) have an increased risk of developing influenza-related complications, including pneumonia, abnormal glycemic events, and hospitalization. Annual influenza vaccination is recommended for PWD, but vaccination rates are suboptimal. The study aimed to increase influenza vaccination rate in people with self-reported diabetes. This study was a prospective, 1:1 randomized controlled trial of a 6-month Digital Diabetes Intervention in U.S. adults with diabetes. The intervention group received monthly messages through an online health platform. The control group received no intervention. Difference in self-reported vaccination rates was tested using multivariable logistic regression controlling for demographics and comorbidities. The study was registered at clinicaltrials.gov: NCT03870997. A total of 10,429 participants reported influenza vaccination status (5158 intervention, mean age (±SD) = 46.8 (11.1), 78.5% female; 5271 control, Mean age (±SD) = 46.7 (11.2), 79.4% female). After a 6-month intervention, 64.2% of the intervention arm reported influenza vaccination, vers us 61.1% in the control arm (diff = 3.1, RR = 1.05, 95% CI [1.02, 1.08], p = 0.0013, number needed to treat = 33 to obtain 1 additional vaccination). Completion of one or more intervention messages was associated with up to an 8% increase in vaccination rate (OR 1.27, 95% CI [1.17, 1.38], p < 0.0001). The intervention improved influenza vaccination rates in PWD, suggesting that leveraging new technology to deliver knowledge and information can improve influenza vaccination rates in high-risk populations to reduce public health burden of influenza. Rapid cycle innovation could maximize the effects of these digital interventions in the future with other populations and vaccines
