    Analysis of The Injection Pressure Effect on Single Cylinder Diesel Engine Power with Diesel Fuel-Methanol Blend

    The use of fossil diesel fuels still produces carbon dioxide emissions (CO2), sulphur dioxide (SO2), hydrocarbon emissions (HC), nitrogen oxide (NOx), and high total particles and carbon monoxide (CO). Moreover, the need for transportation of motor vehicles will always increase every year. The emission of exhaust gases resulting from the combustion process can essentially be reduced by improving fuel quality, the homogeneity of the fuel mixture, and regulating proper combustion. There are several ways to reduce exhaust emissions from diesel engines by providing precise injection pressures. This is done to get the perfect combustion. In addition, improving fuel quality is a way to reduce emissions of exhaust gases. Another one is by adding methanol to the diesel. The addition of methanol can reduce the emission of exhaust gas produced. The process of mixing the solar and methanol takes the addition of surfactants to obtain good homogeneity. Testing was conducted using simulation software with engine modeling. The result can be seen in the reduction and the addition of standard pressure 200 bar, that the emulsion fuel in SFOC (specific fuel oil consumption) suffered a decrease and increased by 0.2% and 0.3% at pressure 160 bar and pressure 240 bar. The fuel solution on SFOC suffered a decrease and an increase of 0.3% and 0.25% was produced by pressure 160 bar and pressure 240 bar. The highest NOx is produced by 240 bar injection pressures with Dexlite fuel while the lowest NOx is produced by 160 bar injection pressure with emulsion fuel

    Salah satu cara yang efektif untuk mengurangi NOX adalah dengan menggunakan metode Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR). Dengan metode EGR, oksigen yang masuk ke ruang bakar akan berkurang sehingga NOX dapat diturunkan dengan signifikan, akan tetapi power dari mesin tersebut juga akan berkurang dan Particulate Matter (PM) akan naik secara signifikan. Dalam penelitian ini dibahas penggunaan EGR yang telah di optimalkan dengan penambahan venturi scrubber dan cyclonic separator, tujuannya mengurangi NOX tanpa meningkatkan PM. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan NOX turun sebesar 48.89% dan PM turun dari 69,87%  menjadi 9.87%

    Relationship between the effects of the BMP15 gene and the polygenic effects on prolificacy in the rasa Aragonesa sheep breed

    Los efectos del gen BMP15, localizado en el cromosoma X, sobre la media y la variabilidad de la prolificidad fueron estimados en la población Rasa Aragonesa, donde se analizaron 918.956 partos de ovejas de distintos genotipos (heterocigotas para el alelo FecXR o ROA®; y no portadoras). En primer lugar, se utilizaron modelos umbral que incluían o no el efecto del gen para estimar el efecto del genotipo BMP15 y su contribución a la variabilidad genética de la prolificidad en esta población. También se utilizaron otros dos modelos para estimar las interacciones entre el genotipo y los poligenes, así como el efecto del genotipo sobre la variabilidad de la prolificidad. Todos los análisis se hicieron con el programa ASReml. El efecto del genotipo sobre la media fue de 0,32 corderos adicionales por parto cuando el alelo ROA® se encontraba presente. Debido a que durante muchos años la selección por prolificidad en esta población se ha llevado a cabo desconociendo la presencia de esta mutación, los animales selectos portadores tienen un valor genético poligénico residual más bajo que los no portadores. No se encontró interacción significativa entre el genotipo y los efectos poligénicos sobre el valor genético. Aunque la interacción entre el genotipo y el conjunto de umbrales fue significativa, la diferencia entre ambos genotipos en la varianza de la prolificidad sobre la escala observada a una prolificidad media dada es escasa y muy poco relevanteThe effects of the BMP15 gene, located on the X chromosome, on mean prolificacy and its variability, were estimated in the Rasa Aragonesa sheep population through the analysis of 918,956 lambing records from ewes of different genotypes (FecXR or ROA® heterozygous ewes; and non-carrier ewes). Threshold models including or not the gene effect were first run to determine the effect of the BMP15 genotype and its importance in the total genetic variability of prolificacy. Two other models were also run to estimate the interaction between the BMP15 genotype and the polygenic background, as well as the effect of the genotype on the variability prolificacy. All the models were run using the ASReml software. The effect of the presence of the ROA® allele of the BMP15 gene on the mean prolificacy was 0.32 extra lambs per lambing. Due to the selection on prolificacy performed during many years in this population ignoring the presence of this major gene, animals carrying the mutation were found to have lower remaining polygenic estimated breeding values than non-carrier animals, and there was no interaction between the BMP15 genotype and the polygenic background.     Synchronous fluorescence spectrofluorimetric method for the simultaneous determination of metoprolol and felodipine in combined pharmaceutical preparation

    A rapid, simple and sensitive synchronous specrtofluorimetric method has been developed for the simultaneous analysis of binary mixture of metoprolol (MTP) and felodipine (FDP). The method is based upon measurement of the synchronous fluorescence intensity of the two drugs at Δλ of 70 nm in aqueous solution. The different experimental parameters affecting the synchronous fluorescence intensities of the two drugs were carefully studied and optimized. The fluorescence intensity-concentration plots were rectilinear over the ranges of 0.5-10 μg/mL and 0.2-2 μg/mL for MTP and FDP, respectively. The limits of detection were 0.11 and 0.02 μg/mL and quantification limits were 0.32 and 0.06 μg/mL for MTP and FDP, respectively. The proposed method was successfully applied for the determination of the two compounds in their commercial tablets and the results obtained were favorably compared to those obtained with a comparison method

    Utility of certain nucleophilic aromatic substitution reactions for the assay of pregabalin in capsules

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Pregabalin (PG) is an anticonvulsant, analgesic and anxiolytic drug. A survey of the literature reveals that all the reported spectrophotometric methods are either don't offer high sensitivity, need tedious extraction procedures, recommend the measurement of absorbance in the near UV region where interference most probably occurs and/or use non specific reagent that don't offer suitable linearity range.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Two new sensitive and simple spectrophotometric methods were developed for determination of pregabalin (PG) in capsules. Method (I) is based on the reaction of PG with 1,2-naphthoquinone-4-sulphonate sodium (NQS), yielding an orange colored product that was measured at 473 nm. Method (II) is based on the reaction of the drug with 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene (DNFB) producing a yellow product measured at 373 nm. The different experimental parameters affecting the development and stability of the reaction product in methods (I) and (II) were carefully studied and optimized. The absorbance-concentration plots were rectilinear over the concentration ranges of 2-25 and 0.5-8 μg mL<sup>-1 </sup>for methods (I) and (II) respectively. The lower detection limits (LOD) were 0.15 and 0.13 μg mL<sup>-1 </sup>and the lower quantitation limits (LOQ) were 0.46 and 0.4 μg mL<sup>-1 </sup>for methods (I) and (II) respectively.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>The developed methods were successfully applied to the analysis of the drug in its commercial capsules. The mean percentage recoveries of PG in its capsule were 99.11 ± 0.98 and 100.11 ± 1.2 (n = 3). Statistical analysis of the results revealed good agreement with those given by the comparison method. Proposals of the reaction pathways were postulated.</p
