The KPSS Test with Two Structural Breaks

In this paper we generalize the KPSS-type test to allow for two structural breaks. Seven models have been de?ned depending on the way that the structural breaks a¤ect the time series behaviour. The paper derives the limit distribution of the test both under the null and the alternative hypotheses and conducts a set of simulation experiments to analyse the performance in finite samples.Stationary tests, structural breaks, unit root.

Testing the Null of Cointegration with Structural Breaks

In this paper we propose an LM-Type statistic to test the null hypothesis of cointegration allowing for the possibility of a structural break, in both the deterministic and the cointegration vector. Our proposal focuses on the presence of endogenous regressors and analyses which estimation method provides better results. The test has been designed to be used as a complement to the usual non-cointegration tests in order to obtain stronger evidence of cointegration. We consider the cases of known and unknown break date. In the latter case, we show that minimizing the SSR results in a super-consistent estimator of the break fraction. Finally, the behaviour of the tests is studied through Monte Carlo experiments.cointegration, strcutural breaks, KPSS test.

Sedimentology and Stratigraphy of the Pleistocene sediments in Lake Llauset (Southern Pyrenees, Spain)-a first approach

The high alpine valleys in the Southem Pyrenees are characterised by a many small lakes and ponds. They occur above 2000 m and are said to have been formed by glacial erosion. The sediments in these basins should, therefore, contain s t p tigraphic information since deglaciation, at least. An interesting and may be one of the most important of these basins is Lake Llauset in the Alta Ribagorca. The Llauset basin has recently been developped for hydsopower production. In conection with the construction of the retaining wall at the 'Riegel' the sedimentary filling of the lake basin could be investigated, and the first sedimentological and stratigraphicalresults are presented

Strategic alliances in liner shipping. concentration and economies of scale

Treballs Finals del Grau d'Economia, Facultat d'Economia i Empresa, Universitat de Barcelona, Curs: 2014-2015, Tutor: Esteve SanromàThe aim of this investigation is to examine the phenomena of strategic alliances among maritime carriers. During the last decade this process has accelerated, jointly with the introduction of megaships in the industry. This has caused the number of operators in the market to fall to only four big alliances controlling the 99% of the market share. The main argument provided by companies is that this process is done to gain economies of scale and operational synergies. In order to test this argument an average cost function that depends on the number of operators in the industry, thus if there are strategic agreements or not among carriers, has been estimated and it has been found to decrease when strategic alliances are established. This means a better situation in terms of efficiency due to the concentration of the sector but it does not mean lower prices or an increase in the general level of welfare. Testing this goes far from the scope of this research but it could be interesting to pursue the investigation in the future
