Frontiers of QCD with Precision nPDFs

Searches for new physics will increasingly depend on identifying deviations from precision Standard Model (SM) predictions. Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) will necessarily play a central role in this endeavor as it provides the framework for the parton model. However, as we move to higher orders and into extreme kinematic regions, we begin to see the full complexities of the QCD theory. Recent theoretical developments improve our ability to analyze both proton and nuclear PDFs across the full kinematic range. These developments are incorporated into the new nCTEQ15 PDFs, and we review these developments with respect to future measurements, and identify areas where additional effort is required.Comment: Published in the "6th International conference on Physics Opportunities at Electron-Ion colliders (POETIC6)

Approaches to Active Tourism in the Urals and in Perm Krai

    Get PDF
Located in the south of Ural, Perm Krai, apart from mineral resources and well-developed industry, can boast vast areas that lend themselves to active and qualified tourism, with the quality of an amateur sport. The development of these forms of tourism often requires large expenditure needed for adjusting the space to various types of activity. It also requires a correlation between a given character of the space and the preferred form of tourism, which often leads to environmental conflicts between the development of tourism and nature protection. The article presents the most important elements of the tourism potential in Perm Krai, as well as the sports tourism development perspectives in the context of real and potential environmental conflicts

Mathematical Modeling of a Solar Arrays Deploying Process at Ground Tests

    Get PDF
This paper focuses on the creating of a mathematical model of a solar array deploying process during ground tests. Lagrange equation was used to obtain the math model. The distinctive feature of this mathematical model is the possibility of taking into account the gravity compensation system influence on the construction in the deploying process and the aerodynamic resistance during ground tests

HyStem®: A Unique Clinical Grade Hydrogel for Present and Future Medical Applications

    Get PDF
Medicine needs targeted, minimally-invasive delivery of protein-based and cell-based therapeutics to increase efficacy and reduce occurrence and severity of side effects. Local delivery requires a matrix to sequester and protect the medicine until its effect can be realized. The problem is, unlike stable small molecule drugs, proteins and cells cannot be co-packaged with a matrix in a prefilled syringe—they must be mixed with their matrix at the point of care. HyStem hydrogels fix this problem: They are arguably the first commercially available, GMP-qualified biodegradable hydrogels both with the ability to formulate with either proteins or cells in the hospital/surgical suite and with a history of safe use in humans. HyStem is designed to be protein, cell-friendly and in situ crosslinkable, permitting homogeneous mixing of therapeutics. One HyStem formulation is 510(k) cleared and another the subject of two European clinical trials. Key applications include localized delivery of therapeutic growth factors, antibodies, and cells. In the future, we envision HyStem’s flexibility and clinical use history forming the basis for a new generation of therapeutics. Two examples described here include HyStem’s use for patient-derived organoid culture to develop new drugs as well as for bioprinting to manufacture new organs

The informational mind and the information integration theory of consciousness

    Get PDF
According to Aleksander and Morton’s informational mind hypothesis, conscious minds are state structures that are created through iconic learning. Distributed representations of colors, edges, objects, etc. are linked with proprioceptive and motor information to generate the awareness of an out-there world. The uniqueness and indivisibility of these iconically learnt states reflect the uniqueness and indivisibility of the world. This article summarizes the key claims of the informational mind hypothesis and considers them in relation to Tononi’s information integration theory of consciousness. Some suggestions are made about how the informational mind hypothesis could be experimentally tested, and its significance for work on machine consciousness is considered

Research of Wheat Drying in a Microwave and Combined Filter-microwave Dryer

    Get PDF
The aim of the conducted study is to determine kinetics of the complex effect of microwave energy supply and filter drying of the process of water release from the wheat layer. There is offered a combination of MW and filter drying. A special feature of this combination must be its more effectiveness and high speed of water elimination from surface layers of wet seeds and, as a result, the productivity increase of the drying way, decrease of specific energy consumption. There was determined the influence of the specific load of the material, radiator power on processes of microwave and filter-microwave drying of wheat seeds. There were compared microwave, filter-microwave and convective drying of seeds by parameters of specific energy consumption, drying speed. The specific energy consumption at microwave drying of seeds was 4 MJ/kg, at filter-microwave drying 3.8 MJ/kg that is lower than existent convective dryers. The speed of microwave drying changes from 0,5 to 3 %/min, filter-microwave – from 0.3 to 0.7 %/min. The speed is at the level of standard convective dryers. The conducted studies allow to recommend a new combined way of FMW drying of seeds with low energy consumption.Revealed features of heating and drying are possible to be used at developing industrial dryers. The base of experimental data is possible to be used for optimizing and determining effective conditions of MW and FMW drying

Study of Queuing Theory M/M/M and Optimization Services Teller at Retail Banking

The research was conducted at retail banking in order to determine significant differences the average number of customers and the average waiting time in the system and the queue of Split Decision System. As well as the significance and probability of no customers in the system utilization teller services from Split Decision Systems at retail banking. The elected locations for sample were Bank Mandiri Ahmad Yani Branch and Bank Central Asia Sudirman Branch in Pekanbaru. Data was collected with a probability sampling technique by random sampling, so the data were taken at random in the queuing system is running at 10:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 15:00 hours on weekdays based on observations. Observation is by observing and measuring the amount of the average customer arrival (x) and the average number of customers served (μ) in a period of time (hours) in the queuing system. The results of the test sample t test showed that there were significant differences in the average number of customers and the utility both in the system and in the queue of Split Decision System. This is indicated the t value is smaller than the table t, and no significant difference on average waiting time and the probability of no customers in both the system and the queue of Split Decision System. This is indicated the t value greater t table is obtained, and for the number of teller enabled to obtain the optimal cost is 7 teller's for a transaction 25 million in the Mandiri Bank.

    Riemann-Hilbert problem, integrability and reductions

The present paper is dedicated to integrable models with Mikhailov reduction groups GRDh.G_R \simeq \mathbb{D}_h. Their Lax representation allows us to prove, that their solution is equivalent to solving Riemann-Hilbert problems, whose contours depend on the realization of the GRG_R-action on the spectral parameter. Two new examples of Nonlinear Evolution Equations (NLEE) with Dh\mathbb{D}_h symmetries are presented.Comment: 19 pages, 3 figures, Dedicated to Darryl Holm's 70th birthda
