Training a personal alert system for research information recommendation

    Get PDF
Information Systems, and in particular Current Research Information Systems (CRISs), are usually quite difficult to query when looking for specific information, due to the huge amounts of data they contain. To solve this problem, we propose to use a personal search agent that uses fuzzy and rough sets to inform the user about newly available information. Additionally, in order to automate the operation of our solution and to provide it with sufficient information, a document classification module is developed and tested. This module also generates fuzzy relations between research domains that are used by the agent during the mapping process

Metadata impact on research paper similarity

    Get PDF
While collaborative filtering and citation analysis have been well studied for research paper recommender systems, content-based approaches typically restrict themselves to straightforward application of the vector space model. However, various types of metadata containing potentially useful information are usually available as well. Our work explores several methods to exploit this information in combination with different similarity measures

Development and implantation of a Thesaurus of Manufacturing Engineering terms

    Get PDF
Present work shows the teaching-learning experience developed in the Department of Manufacturing Engineering of the University of Malaga. This experience is based on the need to generate a specific glossary of manufacturing engineering terms to be used as a study guide by the students. Eventually, it was decided to make a Thesaurus that would be aimed at a teaching activity. Also, it would take part in the educational innovation project PIE 13-025 of the University of Malaga, within the biennium 2013/2015. The first step consisted of the design of Thesaurus pattern, taking into account the kind of information that it was necessary include in it. Afterward, this pattern would be place on the Virtual Campus and the student would have to complete the information required. Finally, the results obtained in the different applications of this activity would be analyzed and evaluated.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tech

Finding similar research papers using language models

    Get PDF
The task of assessing the similarity of research papers is of interest in a variety of application contexts. It is a challenging task, however, as the full text of the papers is often not available, and similarity needs to be determined based on the papers' abstract, and some additional features such as authors, keywords, and journal. Our work explores the possibility of adapting language modeling techniques to this end. The basic strategy we pursue is to augment the information contained in the abstract by interpolating the corresponding language model with language models for the authors, keywords and journal of the paper. This strategy is then extended by finding topics and additionally interpolating with the resulting topic models. These topics are found using an adaptation of Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA), in which the keywords that were provided by the authors are used to guide the process

Application of the Upper Bound Theorem to indentation processes with tilted punch by means of Modular Model

    Get PDF
Nowadays, the indentation processes are resuming it importance due to the new deformation processes that are being developed, as the Incremental Forming Process (IFP) or the Localized-Incremental Forming Process (LIFP) [1]. In this paper, a tilt punch is considered in order to cover the largest possible number of cases in the study of the indentation,. Thus, using combinations of flat and tilt punches, it will be possible to analyze complex geometries in future studies. Present study shows the analysis of the indentation process by the Upper Bound Theorem (UBT), when it is performed with a tilt punch. A modular model is developed, compound by two modules of Triangular Rigid Zones (TRZ) each [2], which adapts to the configuration of the punch.Universidad de Málaga. Indirect Adhesion Wear Parametric Analysis in the Dry Turning of UNS A97075 Alloys

    Get PDF
In this work a study of the influence of cutting parameters (cutting speed, feed and depth of cut) on indirect adhesion tool wear in the dry machining of UNS A97075 Al-Zn alloys has been made. In addition, an experimental methodology for a first approach to the measurement of Built-Up-Layer on the tool has been developed. Finally, different parametric models have been obtained, which allow predicting the BUL evolution as a function of cutting parameters applied.Universidad de Málaga. Upper bound solutions of ring compression test

    Get PDF
Universidad de Málaga, C.E.I. Use of additive manufacturing on models for sand casting process

    Get PDF
Casting is a forming process based on material pouring in liquid state. Heat is applied to melt the material from its solid state and pour it in a mold previously constructed to obtain the desired shape after letting it cool. Molds can be permanent or expendable. In sand casting processes, the mold is manufactured from a model that usually is extracted before pouring the melted material (Figure 1). To obtain the part, the sand model needs to be destroyed. Notwithstanding, the sand can be reused several times for new molds. Several elements are needed to obtain a part by a sand casting process: permanent patterns, flasks (cope and drag), gating system (pouring cup, sprue, risers and feeding channels) and cores (only if it is needed). The aim of this work is the manufacturing of some of these elements by additive manufacturing process. The equipment will be used for the practical activities (Figure 1) that currently take place on the subjects where this topic is taught, in the different Degrees in Industrial Engineering at the University of Malaga.Universidad de Málaga. Fatigue test bench manufacturing by reusing a parallel lathe

    Get PDF
Fatigue life of machined parts strongly depends on their surface condition. The rotating bar bending fatigue testing method is widely used to obtain the fatigue behavior of metallic materials due to its simplicity. In this work, the methodology for the design, manufacturing and setup of a fatigue test bench is exposed. The main novelty lies on the reuse of several elements from an old parallel lathe, currently out of order, and their use to manufacture some parts for the test bench. In this way, a double objective is achieved: high quality elements are recycled and the machine manufacturing cost is reduced.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tech
